He is also not trading a 1st for a rental right? Theres no reason for him to say yes and unsettle the current goalies unless something gets done. He literally went through this last year with the MAF rumours.

I mean, I believe we’re not in the goalie market, but like, he clearly wouldn’t be asking Dubas directly. Moreso sources linked to the Leafs

Can't see it. One of our beat reporters remarked that Schenn wouldn't be happy as the 7th D, I really think he'll be in there the vast majority of the time.

I also just think it becomes bad asset management to keep 9 NHL defensemen when some are expiring. Ideally in a package for a forward, but if nothing else recoup a pick to use in next years trading splurge.

Rielly, McCabe, Brodie, Liljegren and Giordano are in the lineup, barring injury.

Holl is clearly the best of the rest.

Timmins is a future part of the team, but not likely a playoff fixture.

Gustafsson is LD insurance. Schenn is RD insurance, and in case we need some rougher guys.

If Schenn goes in, it might be a 11F 7D situation. In this case this depth is of good quality, and given the difficulty of a playoff run, we worth the assets. You go far, or win it all, and who cares about the assets... we have plenty of other assets to package for a forward.

Sounds about right. The team arguably had defencemen in quantity prior to the acquisition of Schenn. I don't think Dubas makes that trade if he was entirely happy with what was already here.

Dump Kerfoot and Holl. Ideally get another upgrade in but I'd be happy just getting those guys out of the lineup for any of the depth we already have. Holl WILL lose us games I don't care how half-decent he has looked this season. Him and Kerfoot cost us the last series but Kadri stands up for his soft teammates and we trade his ass for being TOO HARD? Naw that aint right, get these fools off the team right now Kyle!

The D depth was acquired for a reason. They will keep it.

Schenn has no say in the matter, and if he doesn't like it he can move on in the summer. He's owed nothing by the Leafs, and it will be his play that will keep him in the lineup......or out of it.

I think Garland would be a sneaky under the radar get.

About 6 weeks back Dhaliwal was saying Garland was a potential buyout candidate, which seemed absolutely insane to me. But apparently they want to clean house.

If that truly is the case, how much more than Kerfoot + prospect would be required to get Garland at $3 million ($1.9 million retained)? They can flip Kerfoot for a pick or 2, so they get solid value while saving money and 3 years of dead cap space.
Agreed. If that's what it takes I'd do it.

But if it requires the Boston first i wouldn't.

Anyone still think we can extend Nylander for less than 10M?

I dont understand how larkin contract around 8.5 M can raise nylander value...

At same salary if i have to choose between both, i take larkin all day long... and please dont tell me its because he wws in pace pf 100 season, nylander playing with one of 10 best NHL player, larkin his best teammate is 20 pts behind him

I think that Gusty is here in case something happens to Rielly, and to give Gio (or any LD) rest down the stretch. I believe that Schenn will spot in for Holl depending on opponent until one clearly grabs the job.

But it's such a great feeling to have D depth, and G depth.

This is a lineup composed of nothing but depth. Might actually be better than some bottom feeders. lol

Gustafsson - Schenn/Holl
Benn - Timmins
Kral - Mete
Yeah that makes sense. Depth in the playoffs is crucial, I though they'd look to add another Dman but Sandin out, Schenn and Gusty in could be it (in addition to McCabe of course). Not bad at all IMO.

I like our top 5 a lot! IIRC in 93 we mostly rotated 5 Dmen in the playoffs, that worked out pretty well. But realistically, one of Holl/Schenn/Gusty (mostly Holl probably) as the 6th man is fine too.

Here's to the health of our players!

Yeah that was an insane price to pay for a guy with 5 goals this year hopefully this one finally bites them. But a lot of us said that about Hagel too.
For the record, while he's having a great season - Hagel did next to nothing in the playoffs last season, and if they don't win a cup with him and Jeannot....that's a huge whiff.

I mean it cost three 1sts, another recent 1st (Foote), plus a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th for Hagel and Jeannot.

If you want Crouse just say so... who else does that fit... and is he even available?
I’m not expecting a big add, at this point. But I enjoy having this sneaky feeling that they’ve got the pieces to add someone no one saw coming if they want.

IWhen contracts are negotiated you always look for comparables.

Why would his agent use anything but Marner/Matthews as his comparables. He's doing the exact same thing as Marner but scoring more goals on either line we put him on. He's outplaying our 11 and 11.6M centers every single game this season.

This isn't a sit down between a player and Kyle, his agent is going to ask for over 10 I guarantee it.
