Sandin was going to be the locked into the #7 D role until the end of his RFA contract, so the Sandin trade was the one that made the most sense, not the least.
IMO there is no one available out there who moves the needle enough for the Leafs to move the first. If you watch Dubas, It's a big impact add for a 1st, or nothing. The only rental worth a 1st the Leafs have already acquired.
I see all these marginal upgrades or sidegrades being proposed for mediocre UFA's or wingers with a big ticket while wiping out the rest of the Leafs draft capital and shake my head. The benefit has to outweigh the cost, and nothing I see proposed comes remotely close to doing that.
Especially if the first is moved for someone who ends up preventing the Leafs from re-signing ROR. That's poor asset management IMO.
Do we really want to pay through the nose to upgrade 10% on the 2nd or 3rd line? Seems like a real waste. Targeted adds at the right place? Sure.
And why with Rielly and McCabe here long term, why is Chychrun even being mentioned? The Leafs have Brodie and Liljegren on the right, so Chychrun would be a luxury incremental add at a huge cost.
I really don't see much out there, and I'm shocked people want to go all in and leave no futures when next season Boston and Tampa will be hurting big time, and provides the clearer path out of the Atlantic.
