The goaltending talk never made a ton of sense. I’d rather just rely on Sammy and Murray over a journeyman goalie who could be had for cheap like Rittich was, and he stunk lest we forget. A for sure upgrade would be expensive both in a trade and in money.

Very curious where the Leafs go from here, if anywhere. Someone with term would likely prevent the Leafs from re-signing O'Reilly, but I don't think we'll get another potential impact forward without dealing our newfound first, and I'm not sure how willing Dubas is to move another high pick on a rental player. Maybe if the player coming in had retention it could work. Leafs already did that with McCabe so maybe another team would be willing to retain some salary for a couple of years to secure a first.

Why would his agent use anything but Marner/Matthews as his comparables. He's doing the exact same thing as Marner but scoring more goals on either line we put him on. He's outplaying our 11 and 11.6M centers every single game this season.

This isn't a sit down between a player and Kyle, his agent is going to ask for over 10 I guarantee it.

I'm hoping we can do something similar to the Forsberg contract of 8.5M x 8 years

Marner has gotten into the top 10 for points and for the duration of his deal, he's been in that conversation.

I'm hoping we can do something like....

Matthews 13M x8 years
Marner 11.5M x 8 years
Nylander 8.5M x 8 years

Heavy on signing bonuses etc...it's a good bump for all but let's us build a proper team around them.

On the other hand, let's see how the playoffs go and we can see from there.

And do you think if hes not playing without the 11.6M who doing all the dirty work defensivly or in front the net, do you think he still having his only season over ppg?

Nylander is a good offensive player but just the fact you said hes outplaying marner/matthews is bullshit

The reality its leafs can replace much more easily nylander than matthews or marner

Nylander is not signing for 8.5 that's beyond wishful thinking

I hope you're right but those numbers look like wishful thinking to me, all three of them.

The fact you think he's not outplaying matthews this season makes your opinion mean nothing to me.

if i was nylander id laugh and tell dubas to f*** off.

There is no universe where matthews is almost 60% and marner 35% of the player william is.

Hopefully he takes that though lol.

if you dont think nylander has been matthews this season then you're blind/biased or really feeding into this bullshit koolaid wherein matthews has become a defensive god.

Matty is sick but call a spade a spade.

Willie will be a 9mil player. MM at 11-1-.5mil realistic since most guys are signing under 10mil.
AM is also realistic since Mack just signed his deal at 12.75mil.

The difference its matthews can have 0 point in a game and still have a great impact just by his ability to shutdown opposite player... nylander if he didn't score... his impact is at 0

If leafs start exemple with ror resigned and nylander out to start next season, i dont think they would be worst than whats they was to start this season... i cant say the same thing with matthews or marner

Never liked that guy. He's a pretty average player. Haven't followed him as much in Calgary though, but these are impressions from his Montreal days.

He's been a consistent 20+ goal scorer, and at 25 goals this year. He's not a remarkable player really... his contract is $4.25 mil... and I don't really see that type of value in him, but at 50% withheld, you've got very good value, and you've picked up someone who can score goals, which we could use more of at the bottom end... or he could slot in 2nd line, and put Tavares/RoR (you pick) on the third line, and create some matchup issues.

Would it be very exciting... not really, but I can see it as an upgrade... he is leading Calgary in points this year.

Would Toronto be interested in Miller and Demko?

Kerfoot, Holl, Murray can be sent back to Vancouver.

Why the hell would I care what you think?

Matthews is a centre and won a Hart winner. Those cost more than wingers all day.

Nylander is having a career year, if he won't sign the extension, you trade him at the draft.

Odds are that Matthews and Marner outproduce him the year following as they have traditionally done.

Huberdeau just got 10.5M after a big year and you gotta keep it close to Matthews

Matthews gets a small bump in anticipation of the cap jump but nothing crazy either, 14-15M and you're not fielding a competitive team around him.

Miller... no. Demko, maybe that's an offseason conversation.. but he really hasn't played well this year, and I get the team has struggled, and I'd expect him to rebound, but I'm not sure that's the gamble I'd take right now.

i highly highly doubt that mitch and matthews will outproduce him by 35 and 60%.

William at 85-95 mitch and matthews at 105-115.

Sure we can add intangibles but 8.5 vs 11.5? yeah thats gna be a tough sell.

And trade him? Why would we do that. You move others around and fit him in for 9.5
