I dont want Gustaffson here at all. I hope he gets flipped.

I bet the defense is done after 1 body gets moved, and 1 forward is added

Gustafson Holl or Timmons gotta be going somewhere.

We are back to having some picks to trade.

We need goalie and arguably top 6 LW

So damn excited

Don't see us bringing in a goalie at this juncture. Samsonov has done fine as a starter, Murray is good in the backup role, and Woll looks solid as the 3rd goalie.

If Samsonov/Murray don't do well in the playoffs then perhaps we can look for a longer term solution in the off-season.

If you go through the effort in trading 1/3 of the roster in the last couple weeks, you are essentially pot committed and might as well hedge the bets. There's no way that you can count on Murray helping out and even if you trust Woll, you can't be in the playoffs and just hope for the best.

He is an offensive defenseman, but one who has played 20 minutes of high quality hockey and is pacing 50 points. Considering he would be replacing Sandin... It somewhat makes sense.

In the regular season, sure, maybe. His playoff play however left A LOT to be desired
Disagree.
I understand not loving the engvall trade, but it was either him, holl kerfoot to be cap compliant for the Murray reactivation. By essentially flipping him for Schenn we got there. I kind of think Gustafsson is flipped before Friday. Fully Agreed with the your Liljegren stance.

Seems strange to acquire a bunch of defenseman and keep the one you could trade to make the numbers work.

Gustafsson's GSVA projected for the year is 2.4 and he's been playing 21 mins a game of mostly unsheltered minutes. Here's the rest of the Leafs defense:

Liljegren 2.6
Giordano 2.4
Sandin 2.2
Rielly 2.1
Brodie 1.6
McCabe 1.1
Holl 0.6
Schenn 0.0

In no way shape or form should Gustafsson be the one to go as he's essentially a direct Sandin replacement except playing much harder minutes. Holl has never been more expendable than this moment and should have been the one to go over Engvall.

Rielly-Liljegren
McCabe-Brodie
Giordano-Gustafsson

I’m closer to you on this.

Fine with moving Engvall. We now had better competitive options and would lose him for nothing. He wasn’t tipping anything our way.

If we had gotten Jensen from Washington instead for Sandin, I don’t think the Schenn trade should happen and we keep our 3rd and open trading Holl too. Don’t like losing Sandin, but I get it and getting a good Top 4 RHD in Jensen would lessen the sting, and McCabe would be solid in a 2LHD role.

Not as thrilled with todays business but let’s see what we end up with come Friday after deadline…..

The competitive options aren't better than him though, that's my issue. We're missing play drivers in the bottom-6 and we gave up our strongest one.

Gustafsson > Jansen for me. The Sandin trade was great. He got fantastic value for him. I just don't know if it's going to look good a few years from now when Sandin inevitably turns into a #1 defenseman.
Jarnkrok, Kerfoot can move the puck well enough. Kampf gets the puck out of the zone, even though offensively can't do much with it. Acciari seems decent enough, and Lafferty as well... I don't think we'll have problems honestly.

At this point, be patient and see what the final product is... I agree, more is coming.

The issue is getting the puck out and moving it in transition to create scoring chances are two different things entirely. Nobody in our bottom-6 besides Kerfoot excels at that anymore and it could be an issue moving forward. Moving Engvall just makes no sense to me at all.

So the D Is set asides from maybe moving one body out.

The only move left to add would be another forward. Maybe a scoring winger? Kerfoot goes out?

Will have to see the end result but there are definitely elements of Engvall’s game that we’ll miss.

But I will say is that he’s a pending UFA with a lacklustre playoff record. Dubas either has his eye on another upgrade here or he’s really keen on the impact one of Holmberg, McMann, or Knies will have. And want to give them some looks.

Engvall was good at carrying the puck up the ice as he was pretty speedy. Lafferty is also very fast. Lafferty also brings more of a crash and bang element. They may think Lafferty makes Engvall redundant.

Yeah the lineup has a hole for a nice acquisition. Someone that give you Engvalls efficiency but that plays with a pulse.

Imma be real though... I don't see many of those unless they dig real deep.

Just throwing it out there…. Would not be shocked at all if one of Korpisalo/Saros/Chychrun are Leafs. Dubas still has the first rounder, Knies to use as ammo

Another name… Gibson. But Dubas would have to add in Kerfoot/Murray etc to make the money work

Seravalli was spitballing and said,

To Toronto-
Gavrikov 50% retained
Korpisalo 20% retained

To Columbus-
2023 1st Round Pick (Boston)
2023 2nd Round Pick
2024 4th Round Pick
Justin Holl

He went on to say that this trade would for within our cap.

Korpisalo on waivers after? Does he eat popcorn in the press box and use up a roster spot?

We still have 9 healthy D after this?

It makes no sense.

Gavrikov doesn’t make sense with Rielly, McCabe, and Gio on the left side along with the acquisition of Schenn

Korpisalo's been on a heater lately but there are a number of playoff or near-playoff teams out there for whom he'd be the #1, so the price on him is likely to be steep. Demko's price would be steep too and he's been bad and injured this year.

Outside of those 2, not sure who else would be a possible upgrade on Murray/Woll. Gibson would be a substantial investment, you don't bring him in as a backup.

If Saros was on the market...different story. You go all-in on Saros and he's the starter for the next 3 years. But apparently Nashville isn't dealing him.
