What the **** happened?

I went to work for a few hours and all hell broke loose

I'm disappointed about Sandin but we've effectively blocked him and he was going to be a pain in the ass to keep happy going forward

Don't care about Engvall and I'm pretty meh on the Schenn pickup, he just isn't worth trading for imo

But then we also added Schenn. This must mean Holl goes

Probably, but Gustafsson makes more sense than Schenn overall.

Sandin was a #7 with the current depth chart. So a depth guy. Gustafsson is more than fine to be in a top 6 if you can find room for a pure PP specialist, but is otherwise still a good depth guy and presumably would be a depth guy if kept. If we moved a defenseman, as we did with Sandin (although I am sure most expected it would be Holl), we would have needed some guy to be a #8 upgrade on Benn and Gustafsson fit the bill quite well in that regard.

Schenn, too, is a depth guy who is no better than anyone we have in our top 6... And we didn't exactly need to upgrade Timmins as an extra RD either. So it is a bit of a head-scratching move unless something really worthwhile happens with Holl. Otherwise, it seems odd to add a guy who is, at this stage, our 4th best RD on the depth chart... And arguably is #5.

I'll be shocked if Holl is still a Leaf come Friday, Dubas didn't give up a 3rd to sit Schenn in the press box. Holl goes for a pick or a bottom 6 forward.

I also think Gustafsson is here to stay, makes no sense to include him in the Sandin deal only to move him out right after. PP insurance in case anything happens to Rielly.

I agree- you've gone out and got all this help without trading Knies or Neimela yet - why do that now.
plus knies has shown he can play with stars.

That's a skill in and of itself. He may even fit in nicely in top 6 next year.

Knies is untouchable unless you're getting something stupid like knies + first for JT miller 50% retained for 7 years lmao.

I haven't had time to process things so I just got drunk and I'll believe whatever @Mess posts now

Conor Timmins
way too much for garland imo the player.

I understand retention costs assets but vanc overpaid his ass. Let them deal with that nuisance of trading him.

I'd like to see what timmins can do with development - only 70 games in the league.

I'd also wana aim higher or get a slightly different type of player in the top 6.

Garland might make sense but that's not good value at all for a player close to buyout levels. At 50% it would make sense for the Leafs, probably not so much for the Canucks. Timmins isn't being traded either.

He would replace Engvall really well though and does play with a lot of urgency. He's just small and it might not fit what the Leafs want.

Do they leave a contract slot open for Knies at this point? Even if they do, are his chances of making the NHL roster now close to nil, or do people think he's a guy Dubas sees as a wildcard internal option to upgrade our bottom 6 even further?

i still say crouse boys.

Dubas has made it a point to get tougher.

Im not saying i want or dont want it.

But could def see crouse retained for boston first+seattle second+a young marlie like holmberg (thatd suck but w.e)

I think Knies should be made available.

At this point he's like a 13th. forward.
He probably instantly slots into our 3rd line.

But even then you cant think like that. His value isnt what he gives us this year as a rookie. He is a young cost controlled premium asset. You dont trade him because he doesnt make this years lineup

They will 100% leave him a contract spot. I think they'll try him out for a few games but I doubt they will leave a spot wide open for him to come in and play over a veteran. Not sure he's someone I'd expect to play in the playoffs.

I reserve the right to change my opinion depending what happens in the next 2 days.

crouse isnt going to cost half of what jennot got.

Doesn't take a rocket scientist to predict that

Rielly - Brodie
Gio - Timmins
McCabe - Holl
Gustaffson - Schenn
Benn - Liljegren
i know you dont think lilj is our 10th best dman but it still feels bad having him there dub haha

Well if the Jeannot trade taught us anything it's that you can't go cherry picking your targets otherwise you get taken to the shed on price.
