Keep in mind McCabe and Brodie can play the right side, so even for depth it doesn't make sense between them and Timmins.

The Engvall move indicates to me that Dubas' isn't afraid to gain assets and parlay them into helping the team out in other ways.

Yep, the Leafs are fine with 4th line calibre depth. Their need shifts to a top 9 winger with some offense and a bit of physicality.

Agreed. I think McCabe takes Holl's role as he's just the upgraded version though. Gustafsson's played the right side though and I don't see why you shouldn't just go full shelter with him and Rielly with every offensive zone start essentially and maximize them.

Yeah I think they really need a 15-20 goal scorer (on pace) that can fit that intensity they're looking for.

They shouldn't. Holl should really be a #6/7, and he was last year.

I would not. Getting a ton of players is all well and good, but we have to be able to retain them if we're moving major futures and there is only so much cap to go around.

Knies is a total non-starter for me.

Well he's been extremely successful this year playing essentially John Carlson's minutes, and although he's been sheltered in terms of zone starts, he's still played against good comp and has graded extremely well both ways.

The current best 6 defenseman on the team are Liljegren, Rielly, Gustafsson, Brodie, Giordano, and McCabe (in no order). You have 3 other guys who are legit NHL defenseman. They simply can't keep all of them. Id be shocked if any of Rielly, Liljegren, Brodie, Giordano, or McCabe were available in any context. That leaves one of Holl, Gus, Schenn, or Timmins to be moved. I see Timmins as the long term project and the guy they want as their #8 right now. Schenn they acquired so I can't see them trading him (although he's the worst defenseman on the team), and I expect him to be the #7 and rotate in with whoever they keep between Holl and Gus.

No, I would never move Knies for depth guys. We're already stacked pretty much everywhere. If you move him, it has to be for a high impact stud on a good contract. I'd move him in a deal for Saros, but that's about it.

Honestly, we don't even need a top 6 winger. We can keep ROR on the 2nd and run a checking line of Kerfoot-Acciari-Lafferty which would be an awesome defensive/physical checking line.

Assuming you run Kerfoot-Acciari-Lafferty who is the 3rd line? If the Leafs do deal Knies for a forward on a good contract (let's say Verhaeghe) they can run:

ZAR-Kampf-Lafferty

There aren't many forwards I would trade Knies for but Verhaeghe would be one.
