Leafs trade Kerfoot to the Canucks for a 6th
Canucks retain 50% and trade him for a 4th
That's why they do it

Canucks are going to try and retool for sure so winning the draft lottery would make things acceptable if they have Bedard. I don’t think they will win the draft lottery and ownership will put the Canucks in worst shape. I feel bad for the fans.I live in Vancouver too. Fans want to tank but I think the owners don’t think that way. They want a retool.
I think there is this huge misconception in thinking that winning the draft lottery will instantly make the team better. Even with McD, Oilers didn’t become good right away even with Hall, Nuge, Eberle and a young Drai with Nurse.Canucks are going to try and retool for sure so winning the draft lottery would make things acceptable if they have Bedard. Well, how perfect is that? They can trade for pending UFA Kerfoot for half of what Jeannot got, and Vancouver will still get far more talent!!I live in Vancouver too. Fans want to tank but I think the owners don’t think that way. They want a retool.
I would not say that bc Nucks do have players that could win with in Hughes, Petey and Demko. If they don’t have those three, I would say it is very similar or even worse than us before Shanny. In the league now Vancouver is probably the closest comparable to us before Shanahan
Henrique is the perfect target if we can unload Kerfoot/Engvall for some futures.
Henrique at 25% for Kerfoot at 50% is even money in/out and they could flip Kerfoot at 25% for a 3rd+. We’d need to top the deal up with more futures obviously but we’d have a dirt cheap Henrique for next year too. The “cap crunch” all of a sudden looks like we can comfortably afford a Henrique-O’Rielly-Jarnkrok 3rd line without touching the top 6 or defense. McMann-Holmberg-Lafferty to round out the fourth line for ~3 mil combined too.

Doubt Dubas has any interest in Comtois. If he’s not given a qualifying offer this summer and becomes a UFA, then maybe he’d have interest. We just added Acciari and Lafferty, no need to add another player who can’t really contribute offensively that much.
Henrique would require 50% retention in order for it to make sense for us moving forward. The price on that you would think would be high but who knows what Dubas has up his sleeve.
My bet would be a retained Vatrano. Dubas apparently had interest in him before and if you can get him at 50% retention, it drops his cap hit down to 1.8 million which is very reasonable now and moving forward.
A three team trade like this would make a lot of sense:
To Toronto: Frank Vatrano (50% retained)
To Anaheim: Draft Picks from third team
To a Playoff Team: Alex Kerfoot
Comtois really does make a lot of sense.Just depends on cost. Comtois still has lots of upside potential but needs a change of scenery very badly.
On another note Beauviller has more points than Horvat since the trade - funny how sometimes a change of scenery makes a huge difference. I do like seeing this happen (when big fish gets out performed by one of the pieces he went for in a trade).
I've probably given you 1/2 of them.Meanwhile my posts to likes...

I always wished there was a way to reset your post count back to 0.
Personally not a fan of the likes, seems kind of cliquey.
Compher has been great and has chemistry with Rantanen and by all accounts seems to be better than Kerfoot so I doubt they bring him back to take over that spot.Compher is the Avs #2C. Maybe Sakic is interested in taking Kerfoot back ?? Kerfoot loked Denver and the fans loved him. Seems like a perfect match.
If we felt Knies needs a spot, and they wanted ZAR
is there any way to trade Kerfoot and Engvall for picks, then use retention spots for more picks since we will have some cap space? or will it not work due us using LTIR?
I'm in agreement with you. He won't be with the Ducks next year, so as you say, cost shouldn't be very high. Move Kerfoot to Vancouver, pick up Comtois @50%...Comtois really does make a lot of sense.
That he is a UFA gives us a perfect opportunity to see how he could fit and if a change of scenery is enough to get him going, before needing to decide whether to extend him or not. It also gives us some leverage in our negotiations with Bunting should it be needed (I do think Bunting will be one of our team friendly UFA re-signings though).
It would also make sense for him if he wants to bet on himself. An opportunity to play with our Top 6 talent to showcase himself should be a no-brainer, particularly with how he is currently being utilized in Anaheim.
Cost should be minimal, no commitment needed beyond this year, and a young big player with something to prove? Sign me up!
