I live in Vancouver too. Fans want to tank but I think the owners don’t think that way. They want a retool.
Canucks are going to try and retool for sure so winning the draft lottery would make things acceptable if they have Bedard. I don’t think they will win the draft lottery and ownership will put the Canucks in worst shape. I feel bad for the fans.

I think there is this huge misconception in thinking that winning the draft lottery will instantly make the team better. Even with McD, Oilers didn’t become good right away even with Hall, Nuge, Eberle and a young Drai with Nurse.
I don’t think Bedard is at McD or even AM’s level.
Sometime I think not winning the lottery might be good for the team to really dig deep and retool/rebuild instead of drafting someone like Bedard and patch jobs the other holes.
I think Nucks would have been a playoffs team if Demko was actually healthy this year.

In the league now Vancouver is probably the closest comparable to us before Shanahan
I would not say that bc Nucks do have players that could win with in Hughes, Petey and Demko. If they don’t have those three, I would say it is very similar or even worse than us before Shanny.
Before Shanny, Dion was our main D while Nucks got two Dions in Myers and OEL.
Miller, Boeser are very similar to Phil and JVR.
Kuz could turn out to be their Clarkson, lol.

Henrique is the perfect target if we can unload Kerfoot/Engvall for some futures.

Henrique at 25% for Kerfoot at 50% is even money in/out and they could flip Kerfoot at 25% for a 3rd+. We’d need to top the deal up with more futures obviously but we’d have a dirt cheap Henrique for next year too. The “cap crunch” all of a sudden looks like we can comfortably afford a Henrique-O’Rielly-Jarnkrok 3rd line without touching the top 6 or defense. McMann-Holmberg-Lafferty to round out the fourth line for ~3 mil combined too.

Henrique with retention would have serious demand across the league I would think. Would look good on Carolina or Colorado. And for us, another 4 million dollar winger would be tough to navigate in the offseason.

So far, Dubas has added 4 players to our lineup without subtracting any. You have to think that there’s going to be at least one current roster player packing their bags by Friday.

Honestly go after Jensen. Sandin+Kerfoot for Jensen. Caps can flip Kerf for a pick.

Right now, the leafs can't have two defensive pairs because if you put McCabe with Lilly and Gio-Brodie you are are exposed defensively with Rielly-Holl together. But if you get Jensen to play with Rielly, you could do it.

Rielly-Jensen
McCabe-Liljegren
Giordano-Brodie

Doubt Dubas has any interest in Comtois. If he’s not given a qualifying offer this summer and becomes a UFA, then maybe he’d have interest. We just added Acciari and Lafferty, no need to add another player who can’t really contribute offensively that much.

Henrique would require 50% retention in order for it to make sense for us moving forward. The price on that you would think would be high but who knows what Dubas has up his sleeve.

My bet would be a retained Vatrano. Dubas apparently had interest in him before and if you can get him at 50% retention, it drops his cap hit down to 1.8 million which is very reasonable now and moving forward.

A three team trade like this would make a lot of sense:

To Toronto: Frank Vatrano (50% retained)
To Anaheim: Draft Picks from third team
To a Playoff Team: Alex Kerfoot

Just depends on cost. Comtois still has lots of upside potential but needs a change of scenery very badly.

On another note Beauviller has more points than Horvat since the trade - funny how sometimes a change of scenery makes a huge difference. I do like seeing this happen (when big fish gets out performed by one of the pieces he went for in a trade).

Comtois really does make a lot of sense.

That he is a UFA gives us a perfect opportunity to see how he could fit and if a change of scenery is enough to get him going, before needing to decide whether to extend him or not. It also gives us some leverage in our negotiations with Bunting should it be needed (I do think Bunting will be one of our team friendly UFA re-signings though).

It would also make sense for him if he wants to bet on himself. An opportunity to play with our Top 6 talent to showcase himself should be a no-brainer, particularly with how he is currently being utilized in Anaheim.

Cost should be minimal, no commitment needed beyond this year, and a young big player with something to prove? Sign me up!

Compher is the Avs #2C. Maybe Sakic is interested in taking Kerfoot back ?? Kerfoot loved Denver and the fans loved him. Seems like a perfect match.

How much do the Leafs need to be cap compliant with Knies signed to a ELC and Murray off LTIR?

It might be telling who they need to deal away

I've probably given you 1/2 of them. :thumbu:
I always wished there was a way to reset your post count back to 0.
Personally not a fan of the likes, seems kind of cliquey.

Anyone who was here and active before the likes have a poor post:like ratio

Compher has been great and has chemistry with Rantanen and by all accounts seems to be better than Kerfoot so I doubt they bring him back to take over that spot.

If we felt Knies needs a spot, and they wanted ZAR

is there any way to trade Kerfoot and Engvall for picks, then use retention spots for more picks since we will have some cap space? or will it not work due us using LTIR?

It can definitely be done, depends how much cap space they have left

If we want to go for the kill

Tyler Toffoli@50%

Tor 2024 1st + Minten/Niemela/Hirvonen + Alex kerfoot

I'd say we'd be the #1 contender in the league if we added TT at 2M for this year and next. He's a 65 pt winger

I'm in agreement with you. He won't be with the Ducks next year, so as you say, cost shouldn't be very high. Move Kerfoot to Vancouver, pick up Comtois @50%...

As near as I can tell, basic cap options
-Waive Kerf/Engvall hope they go unclaimed for depth. Gets us cap complaint with Murray back, 8D, no forward spares, no room for Knies
-Trade Engvall as a rental, gain a pick. Cap compliant with room for a 13th forward, would need to send them back to the marlies to sign Knies
-Trade Kerfoot* as a rental, gain a pick. Cap compliant with room for a 13th forward, signing Knies, and about ~700k (depending on who the 13th forward is) for another add (1.4m dollar player 50% retained)
or
send down the 13th forward when Knies comes available, leaves ~1.48 for an upgrade (~3m dollar player 50%) retained)

*Kerfoot options also include retaining to boost the pick if we don't want to use the upgrade money

**Upgrade cap space is for pure addition, doesn't account for us trading a 2nd roster player as well to make room.

If we were to move both of them and shell out more assets... we could still make a big play
