Damn. Kane to NYR… because they didn’t have enough talent?

And Orlov and Hathaway to Boston because they weren’t hard enough to play against. Lol.

It’s going to make for some great hockey to watch and it will be interesting to see what Dubas does next. Interesting in that this takes out Boston and NYR as potential buyers of other players.

At some point, this becomes a buyers market.

Kerfoot cannot survive the Playoff attrition in the bottom 6 against Tampa and Boston. He needs to be traded

So if we can somehow get out of the Atlantic, we'll have the Rangers and Kane next. Sorry, I can't see it unless Kyle lends me his glasses.

Rangers would have to go through the Canes who will add Meier or someone like that.

But I mean we have an excellent team - if your strategy is to just give up because a couple of other teams have loaded up at the deadline, it doesn't make much sense.

Why does Kerfoots salary matter here? Also the Leafs also improved…

b/c Leafs could use that cap space to improve their roster. Either improve depth scoring with an offensive upside bottom6 OR improve their D.

I don't think 39 yr old Gio; Holl, Brodie or heck even Rielly for that matter are gong to scrare opposition's forwards.

Sandin/Lily are youngsters still learning

Boston was going ti be a tough series if we got them before

Now i don't think we match well and would lose to them
Im not sure how much difference those moves make. Lowest GAA in the league and second best offense already so they didn't really have holes to fill. Will Orlov play 22:43 a night for the B's? He would have a lot more impact being added to the Leafs.

Boston will sink or swim on their lineup being able to carry the overperforming offence and goaltending into the playoffs. Still the division favorite but when they last beat the Leafs the goal scorers were Zacha, Carlo, Forbert and Greer. The game before that 2 of the 4 goals were from Greer and Grzelcyk. Who gets outgunned by that bunch? The Leafs match up fine but the coach has to have them prepared and their goalie can't take the night off.

Not a loser mentality. Kyle said he did not want to move his first for rentals. I prefer not giving up assets for rentals.
That's typically the ideal scenario. All of the notable deals thus far have involved rentals though, no? Edit: Horvat at least was that at the time of the trade.

IMO I think STL nabs him.

Never said give up. Continuing to give up assets for rentals will bite you in the ass before you know it.

As for the Canes and Meier, I like the Rangers better if they get Kane.

Well you’re in luck! The Leafs have a 3.5 million dollar winger that they wouldn’t mind parting with if they need cap space to upgrade the roster.

So why not move Knies and our 2024 1st to get a Muzzin replacement ? Make it a rental while you are at it.

That’s different and you know it. Also Knies is available to help you as soon as this season, the draft picks are 3-5 years away minimum.

We're so f***ed.

This trade, at worst, puts us back in the same spot as we were a week ago before getting ROR.

Leafs can still match up and beat Boston. Or anyone for that matter. Nothing changes from the start of the year for us, and our opponent doesn't matter as much as having our guys perform to their abilities. That has been the problem every year.

Matthews has underperformed the entire year and we are still 4th in the league in points percentage. The issue is, we can't have Matthews or anyone else underperforming in the playoffs.

Yes, but it also depends on how close you think you are. Clearly Dubas thinks they are closer than I do. If Boston was not such a juggernaut, I would not be as hesitant.

Agreed but if you think Knies gets you a dman than can put you over the top, you gotta do it. No ??

Trades don't work that way. He is now going to be considered a cap dump; Leafs would have to add to get rid of Kerfoot. They should have done that in the summer.

Unless Dubas has some good will with some other GMs where "you help me now; I will help you tomorrow"; moving kerfoot is gonna cost assets

IMO I think STL nabs him.

Could be, but the Canes have been talking a big game lately - I think they'll be adding significantly at the deadline for once. Tons of cap room with Patches and Gardner on LTIR and they have all of their draft picks.

It's kinda crazy that with all these teams loading up, only one will make it to the finals.

Good hockey comes April.

Meanwhile, teams in the West have a red carpet to the finals but are just twiddling their thumbs.
