If they do, they will get him cheaper closer to the TD after everybody else at the table is left with no chips.

he is a pending UFA so I assume CBJ would want at least something for him; Also Tampa has a burried cap hit of 1.4 AAV; which they can use to bolster their roster plus some picks.

Tampa will probably surrender 2023 pick to hawks this means they have 2024 1st rounder availble to make the play.

Question is whether Tampa makes that investment and goes for it again this season given how Boston has amped up their roster. I don't think Tampa cares about 1st round wins they are looking at cup run or bust; so the question is does tampa believe they can go for it?

Hedman has 2 more years same with Stamkos if am not mistaken; does Tampa make that play? Would be interesting to see

Boston and the rangers having a who has the biggest dick contest must have Gary creaming his pants.

I wonder what the canes and Tampa will do

I don't think it would be a wise idea to be reactionary and go out and grab a bunch more rentals just because Boston improved with this trade. Stay the course at this point but maybe make a move if you can get someone with term

Ironically if anything this reads more like a reactionary move from the Bruins after the Leafs formally started the Eastern arms race by getting their preferred target first

Nobody in the West has done anything yet, neither have the Canes or NJ

There isn't a ton of good players left on the board either

I don't like there chances of getting a deal on a good player with that much competition
Still a week to go to the TD so it is possible there could be more sellers. Dubas now needs to add a Muzzin replacement who can play 20+ minutes and clear the front of the net of Bruins.

Ekholm (1.2m retained)

Sandin
Kerfoot
Hirvonen
3rd rounder 2024

How's the value look on something like this?

Could well be, but I think Boston was always going to make a big splash this year with all the performance bonuses that will hurt them next year and Pasta probably getting not too far from double his current AAV.

I also think the Tarasenko acquisition got things going too.

I believe TB gave up both its 23 and 24 firsts for Hagel. Both are top-10 protected, but that's probably a moot point.

Kerfoot’s remaining salary for the year is about $185K. So, assuming the other team can fit his cap hit which is likely the case for most sellers, it’s probably not too hard to move him in a deal. The bigger problem might be his modified NTC (10 team list July 1).

If that player is available I'm sure we'd have some interest

Those guys aren't exactly thick on the ground though

You knew they would add and it wouldn’t just be a minor piece. Expect Tampa to follow suit.

They'll definitely try. But they've been stealing from their prospect group for trades the past few years.

Seems as if next year's 1st is pretty much their only main thing of value to move unless they try and make a lateral move with a hockey trade

So Bruins give up 1st, 2nd and 3rd and dump Smith for Orlov and Hathaway. Is that better value than what we gave up for RoR and Acciari ??
The DDL will say emphatically ‘no, Leaf’s did better’.
I’m in the not caring category. Don’t care what other teams do, happy with the move Dubas made with St Louis and expect more to come.

They’ll find a way.

Is relying on Sandin against Tampa and Boston a good idea? That’s the upgrade they need.

Tampa’s deal with the Hawks for Hagel was for both the 2023 and 2024 picks. - not one or the other. The only condition is that they are top ten protected.

They traded their 23 and 24 firsts for Hagel. They actually kept their '22 first in that deal.

I doubt NSH retains that much for 3 more years. This is an all-in move I could actually see though.

If this Leafs team finds some success in the playoffs, I could see them running it back with Murray on Robidas island. Probably underpaid Bunting & O'Reilly by a combined 1 to 1.5M but I could see something like this. Little bit of cap flexibility to upgrade on a winger/defender as well.
