Still a week to go to TDL. We'll see if Dubas values D. Unless the Bruins do a Tampa and implode in the playoffs, I do not see them giving up many goals so we need to make sure we don't. We need to add a 20+ minute shutdown dman. Small ask eh ??

You make it sound like this team isn’t a top 5 team defensively…

Sometimes defense comes from more than just defensemen. Adding ROR is literally adding defense to this team. Especially if Keefe goes 3 lines deep.

Boston has the best record in the NHL .. Their team has a +92 goal differential on the season and they add 2 players that focus more on defense than offense.

They must believe "Defense wins championships"

Subban: Bruins look 'impossible to beat' after trade for Hathaway, Orlov

P. K. Subban says the Bruins look even better after trading for Dmitry Orlov and Garnet Hathaway.

The one on the far left is the Selke btw.

Orlov was the best d on the caps when they won the cup.

Personally.

Bunting. Matthews. Nylander
Jarnkrok. Tavares. Marner
Kerfoot. Kampf. Engvall
ZAR. Acciari. Holmberg

Rielly. Brodie
Sandin. Orlov
Gio. Lilly

Is a much better lineup IMO

It was niskanen
So basically:

2nd in 2025 + Smith (dump) for Hathaway

& 32nd pick in 2023 + 3rd for Orlov

Solid work by the Bruins jeez
If they dont reach conference final it will be 28th

Agreed but we still need somebody to fill Muzzin's shoes. The Bruins are going to cause havoc in front of our net and we need a dman who can help neutralize them IMO.

Boston has given up 38 fewer goals than Toronto as of this evening and they still went out and got a physical, defenseman. It just highlights that even better defensive teams load up just in case.

Defense is a low hanging fruit. You change out 1/6th of the blueline and it can alter the complexion of that unit proportionately.

We can stand pat on D and everyone can type out the depth chart over and over and feel good, but don't confuse the defense for being surprisingly serviceable with it being a strength.

What I am going on about has nothing to do with which package/UFAs we traded for. It is about having nothing to show for our 4 picks if we do not make a deep run. It was already risky with needing to beat Tampa and Boston to get out of the Atlantic. IMO this was not the year to push in most of your chips.
Oh FFS. This is so.......I mean.....

Wow. Just wow.

Wow.

We added one of the best defensive forwards in the league, that makes everybody behind him better defensively

If our goaltending holds up we're going to be tough to score on

That hasn't been our problem in the playoffs not being able to score has been a serious problem though

We certainly improved that

Again, why is it so surprising that Boston added? Every contender will do something.

You can only fill so many holes mid-season, and forward was a bigger weakness. Adding a forward, who also happens to be one of the best defensive forwards in the league, fills our biggest weakness while also supporting the D.

Don’t be fooled into thinking that adding ROR doesn’t improve this team offensively and defensively.

Yes the Bruins are better, and they will continue to be better regardless of what Dubas does at this point. But right now the Leafs are arguably one of their biggest competitors along with 2 or 3 other teams.

Who’s surprised Boston added other than to say playoff teams typically add D?

If anything Leafs got two more impactful players at similar draft capital.

Our forwards are definitely better defensively with ROR and Acciari but I believe our D is slightly weaker than last year without Muzzin.

Agree but I think Dubas will also upgrade the D before next Friday at 3 pm EST.

Orlov good, glad Ekholm didn't go there as I prefer Ekholm

I wonder if things fell through with Gavrikov?

Boston paid a similar price for the Orlov and Hathaway but didn’t get nearly the same value as ROR and Acciari.

How can anyone say Bruins deal is better than the Leafs deal.
Assets is about the same but Leafs got much better while Bruins is still the top team in the East.

Also Bruins will have to press box two players who help them be the best team in the league, that might screw with their chemistry a bit.

Liljegren's development has helped offset the loss of Muzzin tremendously. Would love to see him get more and more responsibility heading into the playoffs.

I honestly don't see how we upgrade on what our current top 6 provide when healthy unless you do something crazy where Brodie and Holl go out for that ellusive #1RD.

We could easily upgrade on Benn if we wanted too. Sandin has to play in the playoffs and most of the guys mentioned in trade rumours have not been better against top competition than Holl.

If you removing 55 goal leafs allowed to bottom 8 team vs 18 for boston... against the rest of the league, its almost the same number 3 goal diffential

But even with Orlov or Chychun or even Ekholm, would our defense really change that much?

Sandin is most likely to be upgraded. I can see them moving him in the deal. Some suggested for Orlov.

if boston made the trade we did and we made the trade they did these guys would be saying how we don't have a top 6 to match them and ror would neuter matty.

FFS you can't have it both ways. This team is good to win the cup. The question, THE ONLY question is..... are they mentally tough enough?

That won't be assessed or made better through trades. thats gotta come through natural evolution of our core players.
