Don’t think we have the assets to go big game hunting in the Gavrikov/Ekholm realm.

Jensen, Pettersson (if Pens mentality changes like Wash’s has), Gudas or Soucy is probably more in our range.

Hathaway was a big coup for Boston. Any 4th liners out there that can counter TB and BOS 4th lines and can actually play hockey well? Obviously Acciari is one but it’d be nice to add another.

When we added ROR and Acciai, those two players not just improve our team but also changed our lineup.
Bruins adding Hathaway and Orlov just strengthen them, it didn't improve them a whole lot.
Put it in Baseball terms since Jays is having Spring Training.
ROR and Acciari is like adding No. 2 and No.5 starter to the rotation, while Hathaway and Orlov are like adding two more bats to the line up.

I’d still like to see the bottom 6 bulked up and upgrade on D. Is there a hockey trade to be made? Sandin for an equivalent aged D that has different attributes? Engvall for a more physical bottom 6’er?

Went to bed at 3am, wake up at 8:45 and the trade thread is 10 pages longer, WTF? Ohhhhh boy, Boston, you dirty dogs.

I get the hesitancy of further depleting our futures, but I think it doesn't matter in the long run because if we're out early, this team will be broken up by a new GM. How do you give raises to any of Matthews/Marner/Nylander if the team doesn't win in the playoffs? Our best have to be the best, and surround them with the best we can get. You don't stop now.

Your move Kyle.

A top 4 LHD. At least that's what everything aside from TOI says he is. If you want to upgrade this D the only thing you could do is bring in a good RHD to bump Holl out of the line-up or a true two way #1 LHD to bump Mo down to the second pairing.

Agree to disagree. If they can get a Top 4 upgrade that reshuffles half the blueline down one spot, that would be successful. If Sandin were traded for a real Top 4, that's an acceptable solution to me.

Boston got better for sure. But they were already incredible. The way I see it, they were a tough out anyway, you are going to have to work your ass off to beat them with or without this trade. So don't worry about the deal and put the pedal to the metal. It is what it is. Honestly, I'd have been more worried had they acquired a Kane-like player to that group. Not to say I'm not worried about them already.

if boston made the trade we did and we made the trade they did these guys would be saying how we don't have a top 6 to match them and ror would neuter matty.

FFS you can't have it both ways. This team is good to win the cup. The question, THE ONLY question is..... are they mentally tough enough?

That won't be assessed or made better through trades. thats gotta come through natural evolution of our core players.

I don't see too many people who wish the Leafs had gotten Orlov and Hathaway for that package instead of O'Reilly and Acciari.

Meh.

Good add for Boston and he’ll fit into their team like a glove because everyone does, but Orlov hasn’t ever really done anything for me. As a prospect he was to be Mike Green’s successor, and he does put up alright numbers, but call him what he is - a great 4D or a good #3 who can handle big minutes but only in short spurts.

Hathaway is a throw in who already gets away with murder so he’ll get a small bump in Boston on that front.

ROR fills a greater need.

Tampa are still the guys to beat, not because what Boston is doing isn’t incredible but Swayman/Ullmark vs Vasilevskiy - that’s the X factor right there.

I like what we got in Acciari, a player I've wanted for a long time, and ROR, who brings so many elements that we've never had. Great additions to our team, and I am hoping we find a way to re-sign them both.

As for Boston, I admire how they do things (the exception being the incredibly inept Mitchell Miller incident, that I still can't believe actually happened). They have been the runaway best team in hockey all season, and they still went out and got better and harder to play against, as if they weren't already.

What I like just as much is the Bruins management literally gave the Coyotes and Columbus the finger. Specifically saying, this is what we are prepared offer, keep trying to gouge us and dick us around, and we walk, and they did, with their middle fingers up in the air.

Bruins management served notice to the entire league that they don't mess around and don't push beyond what the Bruins are willing to pay or you can end up with nothing. The GM for Columbus looks like a complete dope right now.

This is the reputation in the league that I would love the Leafs to have. This is our deal, don't pu$$y-foot around, take or leave it, and stop trying to gouge and raise the asking price. This is what we will pay. Don't like it, keep him, we have other business to do....

The Eastern Conference Playoffs are going to be an absolute Battle Royal, right up to the Stanley Cup. The only thing I think the teams in the West are hoping is that whoever survives the East is completely spent and are compromised after slogging their way through the East.

While I can understand the logic, man, I just can't see that happening. The East is just nuts.....
