I would give this like a 1 % chance of happening as I don't think we have the assets to get it done but Ekholm + Schenn would be a dream scenario. Or even just Ekholm.

Ekholm-Liljegren
Rielly-Schenn
Giordano-Brodie

A more realistic scenario is giving up a top prospect and a good pick for Jensen who may be in play if the caps are re-tooling/re-building.

Rielly-Jensen
Gio-Liljegren
Brodie-Holl

Schenn is not good - Ekholm is.

How do we know the Oilers aren't stocking up on more ex-Leafs? James Reimer, Scott Harrington and Alexander Barabanov could look really nice alongside Hyman, Campbell, Barrie, Ceci...
Didn’t think about that. Lol.
If they want ex Leafs, I am sure a lot can be available if they are willing to trade McD and Drai to us.

Wonder if the Ducks would part ways with Terry. He’s an RFA at the end of the year too.

I actually think Jensen could be a good add; similar to Hainsey.

Some teams go into the trade deadline trying to improve on their weaknesses to address them and Boston just took their #1 strength "defense" and improved it further.

Boston is already #1 in the league in the standings and in GA (118) and both their goalies are top 10 in GAA and SV% with Ullmark #1OA in both with 1.88 GAA and .937 sv%.

Who would look at that and say lets add a Stanley Cup experienced Top 4 Dman to strengthen it further, capable of playing +22 minutes a night?

Our Leafs addressed a need for a top 6 forward in ROR and help in the middle, and depth at forward position, but I subscribe to the theory you're only as strong as your weakest link and against Boston and others like TB that is Leafs defense and uncertain goaltending.

If I were in Dubas shoes I would be burning up the phone lines trying to find a top 4 Dman to replace Jake Muzzin in style and ability (now confirmed done for the year) .. Looks like Orlov just did that for Bruins.

I think Orlov and Hathaway would have made a bigger net difference for Toronto's blueline than Boston's actually.

Love Dubas to address some toughness and add GUDAS (pry him by means of a possible lil over trade)

Timing may have to be right in order for Florida to relinquish him, but,..He may be attainable and add that ummmp of a defender into our line up. (Very intense player)

Now Nashville is in a downward trend so maybe Jeanott could be pried. The stakes might be high but a worthwhile fetch.

Lastly Calgary bites and maybe they could be insterested in letting LUCIC go and retaining a bit depending on what goes back. I'd love his intensity going against Tampa and or Boston. :D

Need help in some trade scenarios as mentioned above...please add and have atter.

There’s absolutely no way Schenn would make this team worse than Holl.

Worst case Timmins take the #6 spot and Schenn slides in at #7. But I do think Schenn would be a solid fit in our top 6 D.

If we can swing a prospect like Mac Hollowell/Steeves for him I’d be all over it.

Some people just see and dont understand every thing orlov/Ror bringing...

Ror its a player who can raise top 6, who can give a good third shutdown line and bring secondary scoring and shutdown top opposite line at the same time but his impact dont stop here....

With the way hes playing hes a leader by exemple, he can posively influence maybe 3 player in the team ( just let say jt, giordano, acciari) those 3 player can at his turn posively influence 1-2 player... those player at his turn can posively influence rest of the team. Its how leadership working. its how 1 or 2 leader who already won it, playing the right way and can upgrade the game of every player on the ice

If oreilly elevate his game in playoff like he did all his carreer, he can bring the little extra of commitment by rest of the team to reach the next level. You add acciari who can bring similar thing too...

Oreilly is a guy who can elevate the game of the entire leafs team, orlov is only a puzzle piece who will come in and fill a hole because Boston is already a mature team and already having this leadership leading by Bergeron in their team.

Liljegren's development has helped offset the loss of Muzzin tremendously. Would love to see him get more and more responsibility heading into the playoffs.

I honestly don't see how we upgrade on what our current top 6 provide when healthy unless you do something crazy where Brodie and Holl go out for that ellusive #1RD.

We could easily upgrade on Benn if we wanted too. Sandin has to play in the playoffs and most of the guys mentioned in trade rumours have not been better against top competition than Holl.

I guess people want to move Sandin for an upgrade. Problem is, who? Chychrun? Ekholm? Gavrikov? I mean Ekholm absolutely is but what kind of assets are we looking at sending back there... And that is before considering his contract.

Not as convinced about Chychrun. Offensively, sure. Defensively? Probably, but enough to justify the cost? Then there is the added concern about his injuries and what happens when his usage drops? Both in ice time and how he used on the ice. He is a focal point in a lot of Arizona's offensive schemes because they don't have much else. He has about 70 more shot attempts than Rielly this year... And he's played 7 fewer games. He has twice as many as Sandin in 12 fewer games. He can take a lot of shots there. Even if he generates a few surplus shot attempt opportunities than the guys we already have, it is not going to be anywhere near what he gets in Arizona unless he starts taking away from our forwards... Something that almost certainly won't happen.

Gavrikov is an easy no. Savard went to Tampa and continued to struggle. Chiarot went to Florida and continued to struggle. He is probably better than he has shown in Columbus this year, but he is not worth the cost and I would rather just trust Sandin.

Knies, protected 1st., 2 prospects for contract space
for
Chychrun, 7th.

Keep Sandin to replace Giordano.

Hockey trade.
Knies should be a no go for anyone. Esp since we've been wanting a power forward like him like forever...I think he's a keeper.

O'Reilly is definitely Captain material...he leads by example & has the Cup to prove it. Hopefully this will rub off on others....

To Toronto-
Ekholm 50% retained
Jeannot

To Nashville-
Kerfoot
Sandin
Robertson
2024 1st Round Pick
2023 2nd Round Pick

Bunting-Matthews-Nylander
Jeannot-Tavares-Marner
Knies-O'Reilly-Jarnkrok
Engvall-Kampf-Accari
AstonReese

Rielly-Brodie
Ekholm-Liljegren
Giordano-Holl
Timmons
Jeannot bunting acciari RoR would finally be tough enough against other suckas. Imagine luke schenn up in thurr too. Ekholm might be. A better player though

If this Leafs team finds some success in the playoffs, I could see them running it back with Murray on Robidas island. Probably underpaid Bunting & O'Reilly by a combined 1 to 1.5M but I could see something like this. Little bit of cap flexibility to upgrade on a winger/defender as well.

Knies might become the hero story of our Stanley Cup run this year. Statues are being made. I have a vision knies deciding the cup. A guy who came in lately. Owning the club.

Absolutely no doubt in my mind. Zero.

Can just tell by the number of people who want Nick Jensen, Luke Schenn, Carson Soucy, or Scott Mayfield thinking they are upgrades on Holl.
No doubt in my mind, that you have not seen Nick Jensen play - he's seen one of the toughest usages this season in the NHL and played really well.

We can compare that to the "big dick defensive acquisition", that is Orlov and see who projects better defensively:

As the younglings would say, DTIYDK.

Thank you. I can't believe someone would lump in Jensen with Schenn and Soucy, or love Holl so much that they think he's better than Jensen. Pure delusion.

Defense still needs a physical presence. Tampa has Cernak, Sergachev, Bogosian and Ian Cole. That's a big and gritty defense.

Bruins have Carlo, MaCavoy, Clifton, and Forbort. Apparently, they're adding Gavrikov to the mix

I don't even know who our most physical defender is

Sandin… I agree, and was hoping
Gonna have to pick b/w retaining Bunting/ROR. Cannot keep both especially with Nylander and Matthews coming for new contract soon.

Also dont think JT's caphit coming off will help much, b/c IMO about 90% of it will go into covering raises for Nylander, Matthews and Marne

Or we could play some hardball for a change.

Raises for a core that hasn’t gotten it done thus far is odd to me. Especially when many want Dubas to be gone.

My biggest pet peeve about Dubas is the Matthews and Marner contract.

The cap gymnastics they’ve done since to ice a competitive product year after year is the only reason I still have some faith in them.

If they win a cup before the next contract it may be a different contract story, but let’s cross that bridge when we get to it, and from what I can see we’re not even on land yet.

Agreed, sometimes tinkering with a juggernaut is not the wisest move.

We’re going to need Robertson, Knies and Holmberg in our lineup next year especially for cap purposes.

If we’re in on Chychrun…

To Toronto: Jakob Chychrun
To Arizona: Rasmus Sandin + Fraser Minten + Alex Kerfoot + 2024 1st Rounder

Then…

To Toronto: Frank Vatrano (50% retained)
To Anaheim: Ty Voit + Alex Steeves

Bunting - Matthews - Nylander
Jarnkrok - Tavares - Marner
Knies - O’Reilly - Vatrano
Engvall - Kampf - Acciari

Chychrun - Liljegren
Rielly - Brodie
Giordano - Holl

In the meantime, have Engvall in Knies’ spot until he signs. Aston-Reese on the fourth line.

Sandin
3rd
Kerfoot
Holl
Robertson

for

Jeannot
Ekholm

Fits on the cap

Sandin = Ekholm - Nashville gets younger
Robertson+3rd for Jeannot = fair

If they can liquidate the other 2, they're getting some other 3rd and 4ths etc

Doubt it happens.

intangibles bruh, intangibles.

When we drafted Schenn in 2008 I envisioned him hosting a cup for the leafs. But still he's a secondary priority for me. I want a top 4 D first.

We'd be pulling more pucks out of the back of our net but at least we can say we finished our check, is that what you're after bruh?
