2021 Season ends, Dahlin asks for a trade. Are you interested, and what do you trade?

Would have to be a big piece (salary wise). His play aside this year, Dahlin is going to be in for a huge payday. Something the Leafs can't afford without significantly subtracting from the current roster.

it depends on how big of a drop you see with dermott/holl. Or if you think you can replace them with a similar D ufa.

if rakell is worth more to us (questionable) than holl then you do it.

Big 4
Rakell
Kerfoot
Anderson or engvall.

then Plan to lose one of dermott/holl. Say they take holl and you can resign dermott for 1.5

then.

Rielly. Brodie
Muzz savard/larson etc.
Dermot. Sandin
Lilly.

I think we go 4/4 and go for ufa rentals but that’s just me.

I think it causes way too many headaches down the line acquiring a luxury in Rakell. Would rather acquire some cheaper players that fill the role we search for on an expiring contract. Less headaches.

There are going to be many players available in the next couple of weeks. No need for him

personally I agree. I don’t see the need but it is an option. I think the best course of action is to try to load up on cheap UFA rentals in the summer post expansion

Yes, and I'd start with our 2022 1st and Sandin .. Going to be a steep price but Dahlin is very good.

As far as off-setting salary cap, if we acquire Dahlin I'd probably be moving Rielly in another trade. Perhaps for a 1st and a young NHL ready player that can step in on a cheap contract next season.

I wonder if he's in line for a huge payday. He's very good offensively, but not very strong defensively, and I feel like his development as an Elite D, is taking a hit in Buffalo. I don't know the guy, but what is more important, reaching his potential and that very big payday one day, or a big payday now, and being a player not reaching their potential in Buffalo (with never getting that elite payday)? I think any deal would be contingent on him being willing to sign a bridge deal of some sort... $5-6 million... Obviously if he's looking for that big payday now, we can't afford him.

Or just Rielly and a 1st for Dahlin....

Agreed. People need to understand that we still have a young superstar level core in Matthews, Marner and Nylander upfront. When you sign players like Thornton or Spezza or Simmonds they breath life into them.

With another season of no fans in the NHL, next off season will be another one of cheap contracts. There will be more teams unwilling to spend big dollars after another lost season of revenue. The Leafs will remain an attractive option for players signing for one year with an opportunity for a championship.

Look at a player like Taylor Hall. His value is plummeting. I can see him as a player that signs on with Toronto on a one year cheap deal to get his value up playing with Matthews on the left wing with Marner on other side.

This is why you dont go and acquire a Rakell type now. Does you no favors this coming off season.

Question: if we were to trade for a player in us today.... and he is in quarantine. Do you have to cover that cap today? Or just when he is activated?

According to rumours Leafs are looking for a top 6 forward because they feel they are good enough to "go for it". This is why they are looking to acquire a Rakell type now.

The longer Hall struggles in Buffalo, the more I'm thinking he could be had on a cheap one year deal here.

I would be willing to trade a lot for Dahlin, yes. All of our prospects and picks are on the table.

I disagree with the notion he's in for a big payday, as well. He really doesn't have the body of work to ask for it. I could see him getting a bridge deal like McAvoy's but lower AAV.

He's performed like a bottom pairing defender this year.

Pretty great. I keep seeing Leaf fans on the main boards trying to trade for Manson or Savard....and even willing to give up Amirov+1st type packages....so bizarre.

The main poster in this, seems to be a kid, or at least that's the impression I get. They don't seem to understand the Cap, or even make much sense to me half the time.

Keeping fingers crossed that he does. Too good of a player to drop off a cliff like he has. Definitely would be an option next off season if this continues.

0 interest in Dahlin. He probably will be a great player but he is not that right now and it will cost too much.

More importantly that clown hated on the leafs at the time of his draft and said we were the one team he never wanted to play for.

Not going to give up Mo and Willy who love being leafs for a guy who has said in past he hates Toronto. Not worth the price and if he does become the player he is projected to be it wont he for another few years as he really has confidence issues and a terrible defensive game
