Has a huge frame (6-4, 215 pounds), puck-moving ability and a big shot from the point. Usually keeps his game very simple and minimizes his mistakes. Owns all-round acumen. Does not have a lot of grit or toughness, so he does not always take full advantage of his big frame at the NHL level. Also, he does not shoot the puck nearly enough.

That looks like Mattias Ekholm’s scouting report that hasn’t changed since 2015.

Martin Marincin but crouching a little bit.

That third line though... Simmonds has played 12 games this year... only 12 games... and he's put up more points than Sissons, and is only one behind Bennett. That's really two fourth lines.

And three firsts for Forsberg and Sissons? Yikes

I'd be down for a Granlund + Ekholm trade. Price would be high but I imagine Dermott, a 1st and a prospect like Amirov or Liljegren would be in the ball park at the very least. Salary would need to be dropped somewhere else though I think, even if Granlund is 50% retained. So much smoke about Granlund and Ekholm right now...

Kerfoot for a cheaper alternative, similar to Johnsson for Anderson, might work out.

And this is from someone who I’d consider a preds fan, as they’ve watched every single Nashville game for at least his whole career. And is from last year.

“Plays with a bit of a physical edge, but doesn’t chase for hits; takes mostly smart gaps but could stand to be more aggressive in stepping up in the play; showed improvement in playing down low but isn’t exactly a plus player with the puck on his stick; solid passing vision and a nice shot, but defers to other players too often at times. Skating seems to have taken an extremely mild step back, with occasional lapses in crossovers and edgework, but nothing worrying; glaring issues with communication with his partner and a refusal to trust him to make the right play; uncharacteristically caught out of position numerous times as a result of miscommunication. Can be effective in transition, but clearly isn’t comfortable in the role of primary puck mover.”

Ew to the first one
Vast overpay at #2

Forsberg @50% and Sissons for Kerfoot, Amirov, Liljegren, 2022 1st
Agreed about the 1st, but sign me up for the 2nd. Forsberg at 50% wow. Sissons is a minor downgrade to Kerfoot but also cheaper cap hit; think their value is debatable but I'd rather have Kerfoot than Sissons even though Sissons is a natural centre, more physical, better on draws, pk, & defensively. He's likely a better fit here but I'd still rather Kerfoot. That part of the deal is insignificant compared to Forsberg @50% for Amirov, Liljegren, 2022 1st. Him being retained to 3m for this season and the next is significant. As the Leafs I do this as it puts us in a great position next year but even better & more importantly this playoff run. Bold but worth it. We keep our top 2 prospects along with others in doing this. Doesn't sound like Nashville is moving him though based on their GM's comments.

Edit: Also, if Sissons gets his offensive game back that he had it becomes a very good long term deal.

What did I read on the main trade board? Ottawa fans proposing Nick Paul for 2021 1st AND Liljegren!!!

Then some saying it wasn’t enough, they’d rather keep Paul. Some arguing Liljegren really wasn’t worth anything more than a mid round pick anyway!!!

How did you manage to nuke the prospect pool and make the line up worse at the same time?

Forsberg is the real deal. Would probably be a sub ppg or ppg player in Toronto. Go all in and get him for two runs.

Liljegren was a 17th overall pick and is 21 years of age and he has not made the NHL yet. The mainboards are using it as an excuse to discredit him and say he doesn't have value. I'd ignore them, they're just trying to annoy people.

There are also expansion draft implications. With our current set up, we can go the route of protecting 8 skaters, and only protect 8 forwards. Re-sign Hyman after the expansion draft, and expose guys like Kerfoot, Mikheyev, etc (oh well), but also protect 4D.

If we trade for Forsberg, we have to go the other route of protecting more forwards, and will only be able to protect 3D. So which 2 are we leaving unprotected out of Rielly, Dermott, Holl, Muzzin, and/or Brodie?

For a team absolutely strapped for capspace and constantly shopping in the bargain bin for cheap NHL talent, shipping off Amirov, Liljegren, and a 1st in a single trade seems like a bad idea. As you said, yikes!

There's always smoke with the Leafs with half the top names out there though. The Friedman's and Dreger's of the world are just trying to drum up interest in the trade deadline IMO. Friedman himself said he hadn't actually heard any rumours about Granlund, he just personally thought it was a good fit - and I'm pretty sure he was the one who started the Granlund rumour, which other analysts then latched onto.

I could see us going after some smaller additions like Alex Iafollo or something like that. Maybe we can add one biggish name, but I can't see us adding two.

Have you learned from your mistake now?

Never read the main boards

I'd trade our first for him, but our first and Liljegren is far too much.

Dreger is a shill I'd ignore him.

I like Friedman but his Leafs stuff this year has been complete click bait. A month ago he said we would acquire a quality top 6 forward and made it sound like it was basically a done deal, just figuring out details/timing. Then a couple weeks later he expanded to a 3rd liner/complimentary player and now it's just complete speculation with no semblance of actual rumour or information.

I am really not at all interested in trading one of our big-4 for a rental this year. Lilly and Sandin will step in once we lose Bogo, Hall, or Dermott either to expansion or injury, and Robertson and Amirov are legit top-6 secondary pieces that we can cost-control for 3-5 years before they become unaffordable or we move some salary around. These aren't "expendable". We are #2 in league scoring. Any core piece we deal for that is non-rental we will lose or lose the equivalent to in expansion, so that does not make sense either.

The pieces just don't add up to a big splash. Secondary pieces had for secondary assets, sure. Palmeiri, Wood, Foligno, Bennett, etc for our 1st/2nd, Hallander/etc, this IMO is the most realistic and likely scenario. Maybe a blueline acquisition that upgrades Dermott.

Mirtle has had Granlund to the Leafs for over a month now. Most link him to the Leafs. Seems unlikely the Leafs will make a big roster change but the smoke is interesting. Reminds me a lot of the defenseman smoke where Muzzin was acquired.

Johnston is pretty reliable when he's sure about something and he says that he hears the Leafs are interested in Ekholm... put 2 and 2 together and...
