Because Hall isn't someone you go to war with in the playoffs.I just don't see why we wouldn't want a retained Hall. There's a glaring hole on the JT-Nylander line that Galchenyuk probably can't fill.
The more I think about it, the more ridiculous it is for Dubas to be peddling any of our top prospects for a forward. Our forward group is already among the best in the league.
If we can acquire a rental top 9 forward for a 2nd round pick that could make sense, but anyone who's watched this team closely would acknowledge that goaltending has been our most glaring weakness.
If we go into the playoffs with the status quo in goal, we're just setting ourselves up for another disappointment, regardless of what other moves are made.
I don't know about you guys, but I wouldn't move any of Sandin/Robertson/Amirov for anyone other than Forsberg based on names mentioned so far (maybe Amirov for Ekholm). The potential value those three offer on ELCs is way too important to move for a middle six forward or expiring contract. Amirov's NA availability maybe makes him a little more expendable but the upside is both tantalizing to think about and scary to trade so early.
It's beyond stupid, actually. The more I think about it, the more ridiculous it is for Dubas to be peddling any of our top prospects for a forward. Our forward group is already among the best in the league.

why not? whats his issue?12 points in 14 games seems to be pretty good.Because Hall isn't someone you go to war with in the playoffs.
Not someone I ever want on the leafs, and I generally value skill over grit.
His issues are well known. Corner cutter, softer, no defensive awareness, and poor on the boards. We should be looking for a guy the exact opposite of that.why not? whats his issue?12 points in 14 games seems to be pretty good.
trading for a goalie in the middle of the season isn't a good option either. There's not many available, and there are just no guarantees that it will pan out. Forwards are a lot saferIt's beyond stupid, actually.
Fix what isn't working. The top-6 is working. The G isn't working. Getting a top-6 and emptying the prospect pool for someone like that is basically trying to get the best looking fantasy team to get swept in the first round again.

Ya I really dont get why the leafs would move one of their top prospects for a short term fix. Their ELCs with a projected flat cap for the next 4 years will be crucial. The more I think about it, the more ridiculous it is for Dubas to be peddling any of our top prospects for a forward. I'd rather take the risk that either Campbell takes over or Andersen rebounds than risk giving up significant assets for a goalie who doesn't pan out. Miller had a 0.923 sv% with Buffalo, and the Blues gave up a 1st + Halak for him to have a .897 in a first round exitThere is a lot of risk sticking with Andersen too though. He is furthest thing from a guarantee and may be the one position that holds us back from winning a Cup right now, especially given the importance of goaltending in the playoffs.
Top 6 LW is not likely winning us a Cup. It will help, but if we only acquire a top 6 LW and get the performances we have been getting from Andersen, we are not winning anything. We may not even get out of the division.
If you ask me I would rather just hold on to our prospects and not bother trading unless the upgrade is massive. By all metrics we are a top tier team right now and should be able to make it out of the division as is. The team should be even better going forward when we have Sandin, Liljegren and Robertson replacing the weak links on the depth chart.I'd rather take the risk that either Campbell takes over or Andersen rebounds than risk giving up significant assets for a goalie who doesn't pan out. We can blame the goalie and ya I usually do blame Andersen for failing to make key saves in elimination games, but the forwards/offense has been epically terrible the past two yearsThere is a lot of risk sticking with Andersen too though. He is furthest thing from a guarantee and may be the one position that holds us back from winning a Cup right now, especially given the importance of goaltending in the playoffs.

Completely agree. Keep the cupboards full. Would much rather add a guy like Jenner and keep the likes of Amirov, Robertson, Lilly than pay a boat load for someone like Rakell or Forsberg. The more I think about it, the more ridiculous it is for Dubas to be peddling any of our top prospects for a forward. Not only did you manage to trade everyone on the team except for 4 guys, without including a single actual trade proposal, but you also managed to make the team incredibly worse while doing so.Complete overhaul, makeover, for your Leafs roster :

2. Hyman-Staal(CAR)-Duclair(FLA)
3. Foegele(CAR)-Bellemare(COL)-Simmonds

Marchment on Florida's top line
I think the funny thing here is that they said the same thing about Phil Kessel.
Marchment on Florida's top line.
To be fair, he found the most success hidden away on a sheltered 3rd line with two defensive grinders. I don't know if we can provide the same kind of environment for Hall. Tavares-Nylander face strong competition and the 3rd tends to get shutdown usage if Hyman is on it.
