The more I think about it, the more ridiculous it is for Dubas to be peddling any of our top prospects for a forward. Our forward group is already among the best in the league.

If we can acquire a rental top 9 forward for a 2nd round pick that could make sense, but anyone who's watched this team closely would acknowledge that goaltending has been our most glaring weakness.

If we go into the playoffs with the status quo in goal, we're just setting ourselves up for another disappointment, regardless of what other moves are made.
Ya a lot of fans focus on this year and I understand why, but I feel management should be focused on a window that goes to the end of Matthews' contract and then hopefully a re-sign and beyond. I'm sure they are focused on that.

So that means this year +3 to start. In that time, the team may need to recover from things such as a loss of Rielly and regressions from Tavares, Brodie and Muzzin. We would need players like Amirov, Liljegren, Robertson and Sandin to fill those holes. They likely cannot fill them to the full extent, but if they pan out they will be able to do it to a certain degree at a cheap price.

I think all the eggs in one basket approach is trouble. I honestly would only feel comfortable trading a top prospect for a great player with this year +2 on their contract. I don't think that player is available though. 1.5 years is just not enough.

I think the funny thing here is that they said the same thing about Phil Kessel.

Yep - that's precisely what was said about Phil until he was traded to Pitt, and helped them win 2 cups including one run where he was the deserved Conn Smythe winner.

Marchment on Florida's top line.

Along with Verhaeghe.

I like Marchment -- always enjoyed watching him on the Marlies, great story as a late bloomer, paid his dues, etc. -- but you know it is a weird year when a team with those two playing prominent roles is tied for 1st in the league in points.

Travis Dermott should be getting more than Travis Dermott minutes right now. Dermott is not exactly being challenged right now and it is not exactly helping his development.

Also keep in mind that Holl went from 14-15 minutes to 21-22 minutes last year when Keefe took over and when he had about as much NHL experience as Liljegren has right now. If he can handle it, why can't a guy who has dominated the AHL and is already handling 23 minutes a night in the AHL, including both special teams, with the exact same partner Holl has right now? Holl never reached the level of effectiveness that Liljegren is showing right now in the AHL.

Liljegren is not a guy who needs to be sheltered, but to mitigate the risk of being a rookie and needing time to be eased into the NHL, the Leafs should have a bottom pairing which plays more than 12 ES minutes a night... Which our current one can certainly do. Or we get a guy better than Bogosian and let him be the #7 next year. Larsson, Savard, and Ceci are all UFA's next year and none of them are playing like they deserve much more than Holl is making right now, but they can probably handle most of Holl's minutes with the rest going to Liljegren.
If the Leafs had more cap space i think we would see more of Liljegren this year.

Sadly, the have open roster spots but no cap space to go with it.

Barkov and Huberdeau deserve a ton of credit for carrying that team.

One thing to remember though is that they've only played 3 games against Tampa and 4 games against Carolina, and the rest of the teams in their division are not playoff caliber based on their play this year. That is why Chicago is leaning towards selling despite having a decent hold on 4th spot in that division.

Combined against CAR/TBL, Florida is 3-4-0. They likely need to beat both to get out of that division, unless they can somehow take #1 spot and get the easiest 1st round playoff matchup out of any team this year, so that is something to consider for Florida. Good on Marchment for having 3 points in 3 games against Carolina though.

I'd do the Columbus deal no question.

Not interested in Bennett with his qualifying offer, would rather just roll the dice on him not being qualified and sign him in free agency. You also can't have conditional picks based on a player re-signing anymore.

I think Leafs need another depth d-man for sure. If somebody goes down in the playoffs, you have Liljegren and Marincin to step in? Another Bogosian, or somethin.

You would have Sandin, Marincin, Rosen, and Liljegren at your disposal. Any of them can easily replace the minutes Dermott is getting right now, so it is more of a matter of how much do you trust Dermott and Bogosian to play more minutes in the top 4 if there is an injury up there.

If the injury to Sandin is serious, they may trade Greenway/Rasanen and Barabanov for Lybushkin, Hakanpaa or Irwin to sit on their taxi squad and save Anaheim/Buffalo/Arizona from having to pay the rest of their salary for the year.

Not only did you manage to trade everyone on the team except for 4 guys, without including a single actual trade proposal, but you also managed to make the team incredibly worse while doing so.
Congrats
He’s a big leaf hater on the mainboards. He’s just trolling as he knows it’s welcome here.

Forsberg is the real deal. Would probably be a sub ppg or ppg player in Toronto. Go all in and get him for two runs.

Thornton-Matthews-Marner
Forsberg-Tavares-Nylander
Mikheyev-Engvall-Hyman
Boyd-Spezza-Simmonds
Robertson/Galchenyuk
Forsberg would be an absolutely huge addition. If Kerfoot, our 1st, and a prospect would get it done I'd be all over it, preferably Amirov but nobody is off limits. Even if that prospect is Sandin or Liljegren (or Robertson depending on how you wanna rank them), they are available but I'd spell it out to Nashville that for that price they gotta:

  1. Retain the full 50%
  2. Sweeten the pot with a 3rd (or maybe a lesser known prospect our scouting staff may really like)
To me Amirov looks skilled and all but imo he was MUCH more impressive prior to the draft, and was a disaster at the WJHC and after returning to Russia. If he's the prospect that Nashville wants in the deal I don't walk I run to the fax machine to submit that trade to the NHL office.

Losing Robertson would definitely hurt, but our forward lines would be ridiculous anyway with Forsberg in the fold, and we can always include stop-gap measures of Toronto guys wanting to come home and play for the minimum or near it to win a cup on the Leafs like Spezza, Thorton, Simmonds, Bogo, etc. It would be like basketball players signing with LeBron teams for cheap to hopefully win a ring, with hopefully the same results.

Losing one of Sandin or Liljegren would hurt the most, as we're definitely gonna lose Dermott or Holl to Seattle and finding serviceable D isn't as easy as it is to find a scoring LW like Robertson and Amirov project to be

Forsberg would be great. Amazing player that I really like since I saw him at the World Juniors in Malmö.

Same, at the draft when our pick came up he was the guy I wanted but Reilly has obviously been a great pick for us, credit to Burke on that one. Mainly wanted him because of his skill, size and some thought he could be converted to a full time C.

Trouble with the Nashville players is Poile likes to use the deadline to his advantage, and we need to make a move earlier if we're importing a guy from the American divisions with the 14 day quarantine rule in place. The other thing is Kyle specifically said that this deadline his eye would be more towards guys on expiring deals and term is of less value to him than in prior years.

I am a marchment mental fan. But 1st line? Wow.

I think Hall is going to be too cheap to pass up at the TDL, relative to the other players being thrown around.

If they can make a deal around Hall(50% retention)+Ullmark with Anderson going to a 3rd team, that could work.

Completely agreed, and would be interested in Ulmark too.

IMO if Hall comes here, he lights it up and his rep completely changes.

Forsberg is obviously an awesome player, but Hall is probably a bit better, will cost less, and doesn't need to be protected from expansion. If they strike out on Hall I'd shoot for Forsberg though.
