they didn't make a move when stamkos got hurt but they are gonna make a panic move to replace filppula lol

Completely different scenarios.

Stamkos got hurt early on. And, at the time, most people thought that TB would tank while he was out. Surprisingly, they not only didn't tank, but stayed competitive with the best in the league. Now he should be back to bolster what is already a strong team.

In this case, we're right up against the deadline. Posters here were already speculating that TB is good enough that they should be in the market for a playoff rental. Now they've lost the guy that Yzerman specifically brought in to be a glue guy and special teams performer goes down for an extended period.

Stepan is a jack of all trades and a master of none. Thats not a knock on him. He is an effective player.

If he skated faster and had a worse hockey IQ, the fans would love him more because he'd pass their stupid eye test.

Yup. He's a legitimate second line center in this league, and I still believe he has some room to grow offensively. Either way, he'll almost certainly be a very effective centerman for the majority of his career.

He's not flashy enough, though, we need to move him for a guy with GUSTA like Grabovski!

Imo, Stepan doesn't get enough credit for going against top pair D most often as well.

i like how the Rangers dont have a 6th round pick because they traded it for Justin Falk who has not played in over 3 weeks. great trade that was.. Sather likes throwing away draft picks for guys that dont even play... who is next this year??? :help:

Those kind of deals don't really upset me. If there's a guy on the board the Rangers feel that strongly about come the 6th round they'll work it out, and it won't cost much. It's the moving of 2nd rounders for rental players a la Nik Antropov when we aren't legit contenders that gets me.

6th rd pick for

good, cheap 6/7D with toughness

= a win IMO

Now sarcastically, using a #10 pick on 1 .... Lol

any chatter guys? anything going on with Sather? Anything at all in the league? seems quiet for a deadline.

i would not mind the deal if Falk actually was in the lineup, not scratched for 2 -3 weeks straight... im sure some team that has injuries would be interested..

So according to you we should play Falk over more deserving players just to get value out of that 6th round pick we traded for him?

For the sake of accuracy, it's not really a deadline. It's a roster freeze. Guys can still get traded when the freeze is over. And GMs can talk during to Olympic break.

Yes, I know. It's just all I've been reading on the Ranger blogs about how nobody wants Cally going to Russia without a trade or a signed deal.

so its good to let Falk just sit and take up a roster spot for no reason.. just send him to the Wolfpack. if he gets claimed oh well. no big loss for a guy that rarely plays.

He's a 7th defenseman, why are you unable to comprehend such a simple aspect of the game?

Doesn't every team have a guy like Falk in the box? He's a trustworthy guy we can plug and play. He already is what he is; he doesn't need gametime to develop as much as McIlrath and Allen. The team has also been amazingly healthy overall, especially lately.

Falk is only 25 years old and yes he has been in the NHL for a bit, its not like he has played many games, only 128 games at the age of 25.. im sure all dman that are 25 years old have fully developed.. :amazed: Allen is only 24, im sure his time as a player developing is running out :sarcasm:

any chance Falk can be sent to the minors on a conditioning stint, or does he have to get hurt to be able to be on a stint?

WOW. talk about left-field. The way it was being talked about, it seemed like something off-beat. Something that threw people for a loop. I hope it doesn't indicate a more serious matter. I've always liked Letang as a player.

Reporters on twitster say Letang can continue his career while taking blood thinners, according to associated med experts...

im officially on the mikhail grigorenko train.

i would do what ever it takes to add this kid.

if hes at all available, slats please go get him.

Grigorenko would be a great add. I know the Rangers have expressed interest in him before and attempted to move up on draft day to get him. He's the kind of big-bodied center that I think would be a great fit between Nash and Kreider. Get in the zone and use their size to their advantage.

I think if the Sabres can take Reinhart or Bennett on draft day, that might make Grigorenko available. Doubt it would happen sooner than that if at all.

This is what a 7th defenseman does: he sits there watching games and then fills in when someone is injured or struggling.

What's your other suggestion, to dump back-up goalies?

Is there any indication that Buffalo wants to move Grigorenko?

Nothing specific. The idea mostly comes from a) the fact that he fought (briefly) with management about being sent back to Quebec, b) the fact that Buffalo has good, young center depth and will be in position to also add either Reinhart or Bennett at the draft this year, c) their weakness on the wings (and d) the fact that everyone thinks they want Cally).
