Brooks thinks the Rangers should consider Callahan as a UFA rental and use him for a Cup run, then try to lure him in come July.

I don't buy it. The Rangers are deep. They are only one of two NHL teams with 8 of their top none in double digit goals.

They can replace Callahan's average goal output. He's not Datsyuk.

The NHL playoffs isn't the New York State lottery lol .

Do you really think this team has what it takes to win the cup this year ?

I think they have a chance. Not a Pens/Bos/Ana/Chi chance, but a small chance.

Hell, Vegas has them at 25-1. That's about 4%. Sounds right. Depends on the the eight million dollar men (Nash & Lundqvist). If we get the playoffs "I played good" Nash from last year, we've got .001% chance. :)

Has Glen ever delivered a good contract to an Unrestricted Free Agent?

Has any other GM in the league given out more terrible contracts (Post lockout) then Glen Sather has?

Things are looking good for the Callahan camp. There's an agent there that is about to get paid a very nice commission. THat agent has to know that he is going head to head with the Santa Claus of the NHL.

WIth that said, I scratch my head ...And can't stop thinking about the definition of insanity! I have a feeling things are going to get crazy again while the head of this organization is chewing on a ratty old cigar expecting a different result this time around.

Sather is terrible at signing contracts like every other GM but one thing I'll give GS for is being a Master trader...

Trade Callahan. Not even a $6 million player with that many unfinished chances

But Nash is a 7.8M player with all of his chances? All, what, none of them?

I get it that he couldn't buy a goal tonight, but seriously, when a guy is creating that many chances, it's typically a good thing.

The Oilers are definitely the team by which legitimacy is determined, no doubt. I do not see why not

When was that other meeting this year? My bad. I had a memory of us losing 0-1 at MSG previously this season. But that must be in another dimension. We did however for the grain of sand it is worth - lose a preseason game though

Cheers

The whole "Callahan as a rental" mentality is just a sad rationalization for letting him walk away for nothing on July 1. It's pathetic that Brooks is even resorting to that.

Yeah but on average, it's the other way around. Nash usually creates the most chances on this team and it isn't close.

Callahan hustled but couldn't finish on a couple of prime chances. Of course people are going to get on him for not burying one to "un-tie" the game when he's not signing here because he thinks he's a nearly 7M player. You should expect that instead of getting all riled up about it.

Glen slather didn't offer Nash that contract, Columbus did. Consensus around the league is that Nash is not worth 7.8m......

I believe you are thinking of the 1-0 loss to the Kings, and it makes some sense that you'd confuse it as Scrivens was the Kings starting goaltender in that game.

Scrivens has had some unbelievable starts between LA and EDM. He puts the Oilers a little closer to becoming a playoff team. They need to focus on the back end over the summer. And signing Scrivens. :)

Yup. Same consensus is that Callahan is not a 6.75M/yr player.

Agreed.......and it was evident tonight with those missed chances. Elite scorers ( those who make 7 million dollars ) bury one of his 5 major scoring chances. End of story. Sather will be using tonight's clips as his final bargaining chips no doubt.

Getting competent goaltending certainly helps, but they're still some legitimate depth away from a playoff spot. They desperately need to shore up their bottom-6, get some good two-way forwards (and a 2C), add a couple defenseman, and they'll be a good team.

Too bad they have a little country club being run over there by Lowe.

Callahan just might get his $ number this summer from Buffalo, but you have to wonder at what cost? A rebuilding team that lacks depth instead of being captain of an original 6 team in NYC that's in the playoffs every year? Buffalo is a cold, snowy place to live and raise a family.

IDK, I can't speak from experience regarding decisions about millions of dollars, etc... but at what point does the $ matter a little less and the quality of life for you and your family matter a little more? Then again, I'm sure people in Buffalo would argue their quality of life is better.

If only I had such decisions to make. :)
