I'm sick and tired of depth players, I feel like we just need one more 1/2nd liner

Kovy-Lokti-One more 1/2nd liner
Elias-Zajac-Clarkson
Poni-Henrique-Zubrus
D'Agostini-Carter-Bernier/Gio/Kosto/Barch

7 goals 16 asts on a bad team he can play in the top 6 easily here

if we're fully healthy I don't mind our depth, with Zubrus and now Lokti and Dags

but now with the Kovy injury, ugh.

If Kovy is down for a while, expect Lou to sit on his hands for a week. He is going to want to see how the team plays without him. If everything goes to hell, bringing one player in is not going to fix it.

I know Kovy isn't scoring at the rate he used to... but we just lost our top minutes guy, top line winger, 2 min power play guy, leadoff shootout guy, and regular penalty killer.

Remember when we used to make fun of Kovy in Atlanta for being a lazy heartless bum who didn't play defense and was a locker room cancer?

We're not looking for a guy to build the future of the franchise around. All we need is for him to score points, for 15 games + however long we last in the playoffs. He doesn't need to do anything EXCEPT score points. We need scoring uber-badly and Jagr is one of the best players in the history of the sport.

If Lou doesn't get Jagr it's because he couldn't get the right deal, not because he wasn't interested or he's not a "Devils kind of player" (whatever that means).

Kovy wasn't a "Lou"-type player either....

At this point, if Jagr is available to go after, Lou may choose to take the path less travelled in this case.

Not that he was exactly a kid/fresh in the NHL or anything, but Kovy was made into a "Lou" type player. Jagr at his age is not going to have any interest in being forced to play the game a different way. And honestly, given his resume... I can't blame him.

Why are we asking Jagr to play any differently. I think he could be great with Elias. His puck possession skills are top notch and is a physical freak like Kovy.

i may be in the minority here, but id rather stick with what they have. dont give up anymore picks or any prospects. unless you can get someone for one of the 8 dmen stand pat. if you get in, you get in, if not what are you gonna do. maybe ottawa will share paul maclean with the devils on their off days. although i do love the idea of jagr, not gonna lie.

if kovy is out for the year(and playoffs) then i think we should be sellers. not trying to be negative, but we should be actively looking to move a dman or 2 if we're gonna be without our best player.

This is a real slippery-slope here.

We're still in the playoff-picture at the moment and may still make it.

I doubt we'd be sellers unless we're completely out of it.

Should be and will be are two different things as well. We're not going to be a seller under almost any circumstances under Lou and teams in general aren't going to sell unless they're way out of it because of what happened last year.

Maybe they don't have a realistic chance in the playoffs without Kovy and it'd be more prudent to sell (and what UFA could we even sell besides Zidlicky, unless you have no interest in bringing Clarkson back) but you're not often going to pull the plug completely. Especially now that they sent out playoff invoices

i dont think we're gonna/don't think we should sell if we show we can win without kovy, but if we look completely terrible we should be trying to trade zids/tallinder/volch for picks. potentially clarky too if we can get a 1st and a nice piece. we'll see.

We need Jagr to NOT change his game: show up, score a dick load of points, get off the ice, and let the adults take care of the important stuff like defense.

I don't think we have the assets (re: high draft picks) to get Jagr, unless Joey N wants to take Urbom and Tedenby off our hands instead. I don't think he'll be doing us any favors, though he might have been doing someone a favor with that moronic Michael Ryder trade.

I don't know why we didn't just sign Jagr in the first place.

Oh right, Parise. :/

The one good thing with Kovy being injured it knocks almost a week off. We play Monday, and not again until Friday. I think we should pull the trigger if we can on something. I don't consider Tallinder an asset really. He's not some must keep guy even with as well as he was playing. I don't think it's gonna hurt us to give him away. He was playing damn good his last stint in the lineup before injury. I like Urbom and would be comfortable with him up next year, but I also do not consider him a must keep guy.

If we can do a deal around those guys then I think it would be a succees. What's the loss? If anything we win regardless, because it gets Tallinder's $3.375 cap hit off the books for next year. I was a fan of what Tallimder was doing his last stint in the lineup, despite how disgusted I was before it during those awful games vs the Caps and Isles. At the same time this team needs forward help next year and that $3+ million would be better served on some forward help I think.
