Coming back to Ottawa for the first time in almost 5 years for a game. Taking a group of 9 to Zak's diner in Kanata. Does anyone have any food recommendations for spots in Kanata that have vegan/vegetarian options (8/9 of us are vegan/vegetarian).

Was going to take everyone to KS on the Keys because it used to be one of my favourite spots to eat, but don't want to drive to South Keys from Kanata if we can help it.

If you want vegetarian done right you might as well go to an Indian restaurant.

PocoPazzo is near the arena, as is Cabotto's. The Club CIBC in the arena is actually very , very good.

Even Fratelli’s has great pasta dishes and vegan options. It’s very close to the arena.

All of us are Indian lol!

We ended having breakfast at Wild Oats in the Glebe, and had an amazing meal at Zak's Diner (Kanata location is so much better than Byward)! Can't wait to come back.

Breakfast food and burgers!

Had the best vegan omelette i've ever had and a delicious milkshake. My family loved the pancakes, the western sandwich, the breakfast burrito, and the hasbrowns as well. Only thing that was disappointing was the portion of baked beans, but i'm just a fatass

Also, I've primarily only been to the Byward market location where its always packed and full of obnoxious carleton/ottawaU students. Kanata location was just chill families enjoying weekend brunch.

Do they still have the Sky High Apple Pie? I haven't been to Zak's in at least 20 years, and that was back in their Market location...

Wild Oats is great for vegetarian food. I like their El Oaxaca sandwich and the veggie lasagna they occasionally have on their mini-buffet (though not sure that is still happening; haven't been there in a few years either...). Coffee is great too, and so are their brownies...

I didn't see the Apple Pie on the menu, but that's because I was having a diabeetus moment looking at the milkshake options.

Wild Oats was a regular spot for me when I worked in Old Ottawa South. Their spiced brownie was awesome. Serve had a fun time watching my cousin and I try to pronounce El Oaxaca as we pulled in at 8am after a 4 hour drive

Way late to the party here but Pure Kitchen in Kanata does vegan/vegetarian and right next to Zak's.

I was considering Pure Kitchen (Loved the Elgin Street location when I lived there), but the rest of the family was enticed with Zak's milkshakes. Definitely will go to Pure Kitchen next time I'm up!

Random, but the Waygu burger at Smash Daddy on preston, may be my favorite burger in Ottawa. Way too expensive to have more than once in a blue moon, but very good either way.

There's another one opening in Orleans. It's going where the Benny & Co was.
Chipotle?

Where can I get a scrumptious Chili Burger in Ottawa?

The best I ever had was the Fat Boy burger at Junos Juniors in Winnipeg!

Not sure about the Chili burger, but yes - Chipotle is opening in Orleans (4120 Innes Road) some time in December (11th is the rumor). The sign is up already.

For price umbrella is still the best burger in Ottawa. 8.50 is crazy for a burger that good compared to todays prices

I personally find them to be the best Burrito chain (Bar, Mucho, FatB, Guac, etc...). Certainly not as good as local places, but a decent option like anything else.

I haven't tried Umbrella. I'll have to now. $8.50 is pretty cheap for a 'premium' burger in 2024.

$8.50 is good but it's for a single patti. Their double patti price is comparable to a number of other "gourmet" burger spots that serve double by default.

It's still an excellent burger
