Should we look into grabbing Alex nylander from Pitts?
They’re not using him and I’m guessing there could be more there.
You know, as a third liner. Imagine the price would be very low.
Unless they’re trying to develop him in the ahl.

he's not an NHL player.

10goals 16assists in 65 games with Chicago at age 23.
But probably right. No need I guess with guys like crookshank, Greig, Soko, Lodin almost ready.

Would be a nice player to get for sure. And, we could probably work his contract in if we were to get rid of Zaitsev.

But, the cost in terms of assets to get Ekholm plus get rid of Zaitsev would have to be very high. It would be a big, bold move for sure.

Even hearing rumours about Dorion trying to land a defender and get rid of Zaitsev creates some anxiety I suppose.
What do you think Ekholm would cost?

6'4". 215 lbs. Age 33 in May 2023.

Late first round or high second round draft pick?

I don't think they are going to add a player who isn't much better than they already have or in their system almost ready. My guess would be that they add a defenceman which they need or another goal scoring forward which they could also use.

I only mentioned likes of Ekholm because DJB said Dorion all in on a D man.

Realistically, best case scenario mid-season is we somehow steal Fabbro and trade off Zaitsev in another trade.

If we are adding a legit top 4, it is likely in the off-season where we could nab a great asset for relatively cheap (the way guys like Toews, Burns and Marino were traded). Or maybe UFA.

I don't know. I'd think it would be more than a 1st round pick, so like maybe a 1st & prospect. I'd think it would have to be a pretty decent prospect as well.

I don't think the cost will be cheap for sure.

Ekholm has played very little time at RD from what I've gathered. That is based on the web site info and from Pred fan feedback that I managed to dig up.

Fabbro was scratched recently and apparently the coach hates him. And they need a RD in return if they trade him

its almost too perfect

Will Dorion see him as enough of an upgrade or stay with his projections for Lassi/JBD?

I would go for Fabbro. Seems like a deal could be made there.

Still interested to see if Dorion actually has a green light for trading futures and/or taking on salary.

Maybe there's a deal to be made around JBD + Zaitsev for Fabbro.

I haven't seen much of Fabbro in recent years, but his profile is similar to JBD's. Ottawa gets someone who can help more right now but seems to have plateaued, and Nashville gets the guy who is cheaper and who hasn't yet hit his ceiling.

Thomson + 2nd + Zaitsev for Fabbro?

Edit: scratch that Preds have no cap space for Zaitsev in that deal

I don't think Fabbro makes sense as a target unless JBD is involved. First, JBD's value is presumably greater than Thomson's, which helps bring down any additional cost of unloading Zaitsev. Second, I doubt the team wants a right side of Zub, Fabbro, and JBD going forward. Fabbro and JBD are too similar.

from what the nashville fans are saying he was doing his best with Josi and the new coach came in and messed it up. Last year he was looking like a top 4 dman. Seems like he would be a good fit with chabot

Chabot-Fabbro
Sanderson-Zub
Brannstrom-Hamonic

I would say Fabbro has slightly higher upside then JBD but we may need to make a move since Lassi hasnt taken a proper step forward this year and we will need two RD's for next year. Plus Fabbro's extension might just fit in our cap along with a debrincat/pinto/talbot extension

Still need to give Nashville cap relief on that deal

If Dorion can somehow pull off a Fabbro acquisition with Zaitsev going the other way, I'll never smack talk him ever again lol

Maybe a larger deal with Formenton, Zaitsev, Thomson and Boucher for Fabbro and a draft pick

Nashville needs cap space, how do they fit in Zaitsev.

Lmmmmmaaaaoooo yeoo I remember pre-season avid Detroit fans claiming Vrana 50 goal man for em and on same wave as Norris, loooooooool.

On real note though, is he battling substance abuse or something?
Yeah beleive that’s exactly what he’s battling.

Over the last two years he’s near tops in 5v5 goals. Great player.

That's like trying to trade

A forbidden fruit + a worn out shoe + green tomato + a unicorn for a big juicy steak and a baked potato

Why do people think we can package up a bunch of stuff we don't want / have no use for for something that we need and is useful?

if nashville wants cap space lets gets crazy

Niederreiter and Fabbro for Joseph+Holden+Lassi+2 2nds+one of sokolov/jarventie

Frees up 1 million on the swap to joseph, frees up 1.1 million prorated on the swap to holden and it becomes 1.6 the year after with Lassi. The two seconds allow them to hunt for rentals if they go that route or retool if they go that route. All in all next season this frees up 2.6 million in cap for them.

We get a 3rd line LW and some potential insurance incase DBC doesnt extend and get our top 4 RD.

Zaitsev could be part of a multi-player trade whereby Zaitsev plus a 2nd round pick would be included in the deal. The other team might need to have a defenceman player to get to the cap floor next year while they tank for Connor. Of course he is not worth much in a trade.
