Yeah maybe he does just want to be a musician. But I feel like if he was that passionate about it he would have just forced a trade there a long time ago. If he truly does have that passion and musicians mentality
I'm not sure, but maybe it was because he wasn't an UFA until 2020.

I was just trying to describe what "might be" his motivation.

If he's as hooked on playing music like many musician friends (myself included) are, it could have been something in the back of his mind for quite some time that was driving him. Its hard to explain, but I'd liken the passion for music and to be good at your craft as being similar to an addiction as odd as that seems.

You are assuming Dorion thinks through his moves in advance of making them.

Also he knows as well as anyone here that if the Sens were to fail to make the playoffs for 6 years in a row that he'd lose his GM job when new ownership comes in, and certainly never get another chance elsewhere with his god awful resume.

Only chance for him to stay in the GM job he lucked into would be to make significant short-term acquisitions and hope the team makes the playoffs because of it.

It's very possible DeBrincat was thought of as a likely 1 year rental. Dorion not even speaking to ADB about interest in an extension pre-trade says a lot.

I don't know who's going to take on Joseph's contract. 3 million per for 3 more years for a mediocre 3rd line forward.

Maybe could get a cap dump defenseman in return, but then we'd need to find a new 3rd line RW.
I like Joseph because of his speed and hustle. He is one of fastest players on the forecheck and creates opportunities because of that. I would keep him unless some other team is stupid enough to give us a true top 4 D for him in a trade package.

I like the idea of having a line consisting of Formentoin - Pinto - Joseph. I also think all 3 of those players could play higher in the lineup if required. Joseph proved that at the end of last season.

Exact same thing as Matt Duchene. Not a lot of thought went into it - or maybe its was on page 117 of the rebuild plan. Or maybe they just make it up as they go along. Hard to tell because the plan isn’t good and neither is the GM so it’s hard to figure out where the plan and just plain stupidity intersect
Just plain stupid is my vote. Dorion is probably starting to feel more threatened than previously.

It's more than the "music". Its the weather, entertainment, and taxes!

If DeBrincat doesn't want to re-sign I wonder if we could pry a good young D from Vegas in a package for him.

With Miromanov looking ready for full time duties I wonder if it could make Whitecloud or Hague available.

Maybe something like ADB for Hague/Whitecloud, one of their young depth forwards (Kolesar/Howden/Patrick) and a 1st.

Depending on how his recovery is going I'd be interested in taking Lehner back in the deal too if Talbot doesn't re-sign.

Dumba is the guy we need

RD, heavy hitter, good two way puck moving dman

underrated slap shot

Dislike him as a player and from what I’ve heard not the best dude either, but that would be the type of skillset that would go well with Sanderson

I am not sure trading a great winger to Vegas for a D is something that Dorion wants to do again.

I've mentioned him as well. He's a free agent in the summer as well. Would only take $s versus assets.
Jensen is a classic guy that average fans watch and are like hmm that looks like a good defensive defenseman. But the NHL GMs don’t necessarily seem to cover all that much

I'd love both Dumba and Jensen.

I'd see if we can send Zaitsev to Washington (Russian connection) with a small sweetener and get back Jensen. Then trade Thomson,Holden and rights to Formenton for Dumba (Bill Guerin is a horrible gm who will keep stocking up on wing and D prospects without ever getting a centre so we might be able to pull this off).

Fully healthy roster gives us
Cat Stu Giroux
Brady Norris Bath
Motte Pinto Joseph
Gambrell Kastelic Watson

Chabot Zub
Sanderson Dumba
Brannstrom Jensen
Talbot/Forbserg
We make a next-level run and make the playoffs, knocking out Toronto in the first round. Haters like myself shut up about DJ. Make it happen Dorion

The Chychrun trade talk seems to have completely dried up. Would have thought the opposite since he's actually playing NHL games now.

It we have to move on from Debrincat there will be a team that missed the playoffs that we could target. I’m thinking a pick in the 11-16 range would provide equal value to the 7OA we gave up to get him. This years draft is far superior to last year.

All NHL players are in US$, but the tax rates are certainly different.
You think I meant currency exchange rates or tax rates?

The point is .. its TDL 2022 .. Where is Paul? in Ottawa. Tampa is not even in the picture until he is traded there. Tampa's offer does not exist at that point. Ottawa gives him a deal he excepts... there is no Florida for Paul. The team's final offer was 4x2.5 .. reports at the time said he would have accepted 4x3.. which is effectively what Joseph ended up signing for. Would you like me to say all in USD? Even if the Sens went 4x3.5 it would have been good value. The 4x2.5 was a pretty lowball final offer.

The league is playing games with the PA. They want the PA to come to them to discuss smoothing the cap increase rather than the other way around. I’d expect to hear at some point the cap will be going up about 3M each of the next 2 years.
Yes, but nothing is free. The NHL tactic will be to slow-walk a cap increase (to the extent they can) to hold sway over the PA. It is never solely the issue at hand that is being negotiated, it's always the total package. Other issues, even those not directly raised are in play, and both sides know it. This is an adversarial business system, competing interests, not a charity. Both try to force the other's hand. The cap might not be raised unless the NHL gets some favourable concessions in other things, say player participation in the pending World Cup of Hockey, Olympics, etc... Players want those much more than their NHL employer, so... Give something to get something. Just the way it is, not right or wrong.

Was not debating the merits (or lack thereof) of the Paul / Joseph trade event at all. Personally, I really liked Paul even though, like a fine wine, he took years to develop. But develop he did. I simply observed that all NHL players contracts are US$, but jurisdictional issues (tax rates) may impact player decisions. For that reason some players (given a choice) may avoid trades or UFA signings in certain jurisdictions.

Paul wasn't a UFA yet. Everything I heard indicated he wanted to stay. He had no control over where he was being traded. 2.5 wasn't getting it done.
