I think they'll eventually pay what it takes to get rid of Zaitsev over something like that.

I hope that's what they do.

Wait till next season when he has the one year left and pay a second or whatever it takes to free up cap to sign zub and debrincat.

No sense doing it now when it's going to cost a lot for a team to take him.

I'm still holding out hope to obtain Chychrun. Arizona are bound to lower the price and I hope we're ready to pounce at that time before some other team does. I still believe the guy is an absolute difference maker. I have far less concern about his being a left shot defenseman than many on here do.

His results playing RHD were far worse than at LHD, he is still not healthy, and adding him without offloading Zaitsev may well cost us Zub.

I am not against adding him, but there are a lot of things that need to go our way for it to make sense for us to offer the winning package.

One of the reasons I'm so eager to obtain Chychrun is that I think it's very likely that Zub is going to test free agency where he could receive a package far exceeding what the Sens would be willing to offer.

That is almost assuredly going to happen.

With how sought-after good RHD are, he is going to get a massive offer around 6 to 7 per.

You might be able to scratch Detroit, Colorado, Dallas, and maybe Columbus and Nashville based on who they play in the next few games. None of them are known to be shopping for anything and none are likely selling.

That leaves Minny, Chicago, Toronto, Pittsburgh, Montreal, Ottawa, Dallas, Vegas, Islanders, Buffalo, Calgary, NYR and San Jose.

I see a lot of troubled teams there and likely/known sellers: San Jose, Montreal (we all know they're sellers) Chicago, Islanders (haven't had the best start), and Minny. Only suspected seller missing is Vancouver.

Pittsburgh, Toronto, Ottawa, Vegas, Buffalo, NYR, and Calgary look like buyers, but nothing concrete. I know Calgary is looking for a forward and Toronto is likely looking for a defenseman but that's it.

Don't touch Grieg and I'm for it. Sanderson and Pinto who were rumored to be the asking pieces are non starters.

We can’t afford to keep Debrincat, Zub, AND Chychrun. Remember thag Pinto is looking at a pretty big contract coming up if he keeps this up, even if it’s a bridge deal.

Yup this. The D looks great to me right now. And we have JBD and Thompson to fall back on/marinade more in the minors.

Sanderson is even better than we could have ever asked for. That was the big wildcard. He's incredible and brings a sense of stability and calm to out top 4. Even Hamonic looks totally adequate beside him imo.

If we are going to trade for someone it has to be a RHD, we have zero need for a LHD with Branny playing as well as he has.

There is no way Zub gets anywhere near 6-7M unless he somehow blows up offensively this season. He’s a 4.5M per year guy.
I could easily see him get 6 if he puts up 30 points this season. He’s a right handed guy who’s a rock defensively, those don’t grow on trees. The cap will rise significantly in a couple years too.

I’d do it. We’d definately need to make cuts in other places (like Greig replacing Motte, Watson/Talbot gone through UFA and replaced with ELC’s). It’s all very doable if ownership is willing to spend to the cap.

I keep thinking how much better this roster would be with Connor Brown, Alex Formenton and Nick Paul still on it.

1A: Brady - Norris - Bath
1B: Cat - Stu - Giroux
2B: Formenton - Pinto - Brown
3A: Motte - Paul - Watson

We'd be over by about $2.5M or so. Certainly not the most egregious proposal.

With Paul we would have never signed Brassard, so that takes us down about $1M. From there unloading Gambrell and Hellberg should do it without making any noticeable difference to our roster or pool.

So maybe it's not quite so fantasy land? It's not like I had to concoct a bunch of unlikely trades or magically disappear Zaitsev to do it. Just undo a few trades that we made that we really didn't have to make.

If we needed more cap space could have not done the Talbot deal and rolled the dice on Forsberg + Sogaard or a cheap backup acquisition instead.

I just love the idea that our insane forward group could easily be that much better. Centre depth of Norris - Stu - Pinto - Paul would be absolutely unbelievable to watch. We would eat teams alive.

The trade proposal thread probably not a good place to not see trade proposals
Sure, I get that it's a trade thread. It doesn't negate the statement that I made though in any way! Some people just love trades and trade proposals a lot more than others. Trade proposals & their quality can vary quite a bit. Some don't consider the other teams needs, some wouldn't work because of the cap, and some wouldn't improve the team. Some are good & interesting.

We have a 22 player roster now. If you subtract 2 players, it would be a 20-player roster. Based on a quick look at CapFriendly, there are only 2 teams with a 21 player roster, and zero with 20.

But, ya there were different ways of juggling the roster to reduce the total AAV of course.

I love Nick Paul but I’m feeling Kastelic is a far better option for this team. Paul is big but not nearly as physical and I don’t think we lose any offence or defence with Kastelic.
