Wow, just about jumped out of my seat at this headline. Took me a second to realize they weren't connected lol. Talk about a TSN troll job.

Yeah same, I was almost certain they were connected until I watched the full vid.

What if EK goes to the Leafs 🤢

My favourite player growing up (after Gretzky as a young kid) was Brian Leetch and he donned the Blue and White to my chagrin.

I was sort of proud that he played well for them but also kind of depressed. ;)

With Spezza, he was such a far cry from the player he was with us that it didn't really register the same way.

I'm pretty sure Zaitsev needed to be moved to accommodate a defenseman.

It's probably why there's been so much smoke around Chychrun. AZ is willing to take on Zaitsev in the deal.

Maybe Norris out on LTIR for most of the year will mean some savings (assuming his contract is insured) that don't require Zaitsev to be dumped.
Zaitsev needs to go asap not just for this season but for next season too.

I could definitely see Dorion inquiring on EK if negotiations with ADB and Zub aren't going great.

Makes an average of around 8M in salary for this year and the next 4 years thanks to a front-loaded deal and a 10M signing bonus paid for 2022/23.

They would absolutely need to take on Zaitsev and Joseph, and retain some salary for it to be possibly worth the risk.

With EK's massive cap hit and full NMC, SJ can't expect to get much in assets back, so that's a plus compared to selling the farm for Chychrun or a different top 4 D.

Karl at 8-8.5 to take Z off our hands + B prospect and the Brown 2nd. I'd do that.

Youd have Hamonic and Holden coming off the books thats $4.3M + Z's $4.5M and we would essentially have more caps space with Karl instead of 3 anchors next season. Gonna start getting tight for cap space when Sandy, Zub and Pinto need contracts

Why do we need Chychrun? He's not even a natural RD and comes with a ton of risk. Sanderson's play has made me forget about acquiring him.
Bingo doesnt fill a need will cost an arm and a leg.

Formenton+Thomson+2nd rounder

for

50% of Karlsson?
No way. Karlsson doesnt fit on any level. He's the wrong age, this teams best players are 21 years old. He is 32. He costs too much money, he will disrupt the room and the leadership roles. Find someone else that plays RD if you are that desperate but it will cost the team one of Zub or Debrincat too. Who actually fit into the age group of the core.

If Brodie ends up being out long term, Leafs might pull a Tampa and try finessing the LTIR.

Watch them give up Holl, Robertson and a 1st for Chychrun. They'll be entering the playoffs with a d core of

Rielly Chychrun
Sandin Brodie
Gio LIljegren with Muzzin stepping in if he's at 100.

And then they lose in the first round again.
Pretty light trade package lol

They correctly identified when good D came available and did all they could to acquire them.

Nothing was stopping us from trading for Marino, Graves and Siegenthaler, other than our terrible pro scouting.

We aren't going to be able to sign big fish like Hamilton via UFA, but NJ is the perfect example of a team that recognized they needed to improve their defense drastically if they were going to make the playoffs and are reaping the benefits of doing so.

Meanwhile our biggest D acquisitions the past couple years have been Hamonic and Del Zotto
We did try to trade for Graves but lost out.

Don’t think karlsson messses up things as much als you say. The money is definitely too much tho. The room is established. Karlsson is a vet. We need a vet. A good one.

For fun:

San Jose retains 25%.
Formenton
2nd
3rd
7th (Arizona).

Arizona retains 50%
Lassi
Zaitsev
24 1st

Ottawa.
Karlsson at like 3 million.

Damn. Steep once I wrote out lol. Assuming formenton is done here.

This is absurd.... First of all Karlsson at 25% retained they give him away for free. You want a good vet dont look at Karlsson. He isnt that guy, best friends with Kane and was the reason Pavelski left. Time to move on. The sens are 2nd last in the NHL you dont trade futures in that scenario. Especially when your two best players are 21 and all your good players are 25 and under outside of Giroux.

This team is Missing Karlsson. A solid vet who would run our D with ease, SJ was just not a good fit for him. They had way to many vets and a team clearly on the down swing.
They just went to the WCF what are you talking about they added him and he blew up the chemistry.

What's the story behind Pavelski leaving because of Karlsson? Or are you referring to Kane being the reason?

Hischier 14-8-9-17 vs. Norris 5-1-1-2
Hughes 15-5-10-15 vs. Stutzle 15-5-10-15
Haula 15-0-5-5 vs. Pinto 15-8-1-9
Mccleod 15-1-6-7 vs. Kastelic 15-2-1-3

Meh.

When it comes to the Devils I think Ruff has more to do with it than the personnel.

He has them playing a system based on puck pressure in all zones and work ethic.
Hughes > Stutzle
Hischier > Norris

Pretty easily IMO
