Id never do that. Why do people think they need to give up such prime assets for a guy that is a salary dump. Imagine how thin this forward group would be without Joseph and Grieg and the disruption of the room this type of move would have. Karlsson has been aweful outside of this year since he's been traded. His body is a mess.

First, let me say that I am 99% sure Karlsson isn't going to be traded to Ottawa. If he ever comes back it will in the last year or two of his career after his current contract is done. But he's not been bad his whole SJ tenure. Last season he was really good but then had a forearm injury. His first season he was phenomenal once he got comfortable and they may have won the Cup had he and Pavelski stayed healthy. 19-20 was rough but that season was bad for everyone - he was leading the team in scoring when he got injured on a team where he shouldn't have been leading the team in scoring.

I think with EK we have to ask ourselves three things;

How much would San Jose like to get out from that contract?

Where else would Erik want to play?

And could Brady and Tomas adapt and thrive under the new dynamics?

We all have opinions on this but it really looks like things would be coming up Ottawa if Erik wanted a change. Ball is in his court.

San Jose might be in one of those situations in which Karlsson is helping them get points in too many games.

I‘ve seen Sharks fans allude to it on the main boards. He’d be an addition (for their tanking hopes) by subtraction.

If Ottawa trades a bunch of futures for 32 year old EK when all its best players are 25 and under I won't be renewing my season tickets. Waste of 6 years of losing. He isn't a fit here time to move on.

People need to stop pouncing on Chabot.

"We can trade Karlsson, we have Chabot."
"We can trade Chabot, we have Sanderson."

How about we keep both?

Ideal world.

Sanderson becomes the minute muncher and Chabot becomes the supporting D.

Sanderson 26 ish
Chabot 22 ish
3rd pair takes the remaining 12ish mins.

Getting Zub signed is a pivotal moment for this teams future. We are looking to take a step forward by trading for a D losing Zub will be taking two steps backwards.

Love Erik Karlsson. One of the greatest players in Sens history. So happy he's looking and feeling good after a few quiet years.

That being said, acquiring EK makes little to no sense for the Sens IMO. The Sens are not close to competing. Probably 2-3 years away in which case, EK will be like 35.

The Sens also need defensive stabilizers. I can't say I've seen EK play in sometime so perhaps he's found his defensive game but with the current makeup of our defence (Chabot, Branny, and our other replacement level guys) adding a guy who plays like EK would make things super entertaining but probably doesn't much to actually help us win games, especially playoff games.

I don’t think the Sens need a defensive defenceman with our system. We need someone who can play big minutes and make a positive impact.

EK has a full NMC so it’s all up to him. I don’t think he wants to go anywhere but I’m assuming Ottawa is the only place he’d accept a trade to.

Who knows, maybe there was a chance encounter with Dorion and Grier last night and they sent a text to EK and they got a thumbs up emoji back.

Chrychrun makes the most sense for me due to salary

if not him then Seth Jones at retention before Karlsson.

We missed the boat on Marino another option is to wait for someone like marino to come avaliable but that won't be for a while and if the cap is increasing alot then teams won't be in cap trouble

we really missed the boat on using our cap space to get a good deal. NJ did it twice

I really don’t care about Paul leaving. He would have started the season as a winger or 4th line center. I just don’t care. Joseph is a really good player.

Sanderson - Karlsson would be an absolute treat to watch.

Imagine going into the playoffs with Chabot - Zub as the 2nd pairing.

The biggest mistake was Brown for a 2nd without confirmation that Formenton could play.

To be fair to Dorion, the Brown move was almost certainly made because of salary constraints.

Once Giroux signed his 6.5M deal, money had to leave out the door. Brown's 4M salary was the easiest to move.

Of course you could argue his mismanagement of cap elsewhere and the buyouts/retention of Murray, White and MDZ didn't help in that regard.

ya that was ridiculous
Well, the assumption at the time was budget played into the decision, particularly if we were going to add a top 4 D.

We downgraded from Brown playing his off side to Motte on the third line, and saved 3 mil.

Had we managed to use that 3 mil on a top 4 D nobody blinks an eye at not having Brown available to play on our third line.

I won't go to another game if they were to trade for Karlsson, he's done let it go.

Yeah, we could really use Connor Brown or Nick Paul right now. Unfortunately, hindsight is always 20/20.
You didnt need hindsight to know these are good players or the due dilligence to know if Formenton was going to play or not. Very bad pro talent evaluators in this organization specifically the GM who is making the final call on these players.

We didn't use it for a top 4 D though. Its poor management. Also dropping Brown knowing the situation of Formenton is just another example of poor management

Brown is an asset that you can trade anytime.

I think you guys have forgotten how good of a player EK can be. More impactful than all of our guys even at age 32. Crazy to watch Chabot and Stutzle and Brady as people say they are elite players and then to tune in to see EK literally control the flow of game to a level that those players cannot even fathom. There might not be a bigger bargain if his injuries are under control.

We are trying to get a dman are 4 million right now. He could have fit. I assumed brown was out the door and a dman would be in next day. And maybe it almost was.

There was quite a bit of smoke around weegar in the following week. Which then Alledgedly got nixed. We just don’t know
