Should of kept Nick Paul, slots perfectly into that #3 C spot.

Nick Paul does it all, Mathieu Joseph is fast

For how long?

Paul is 27, he’s a better player then Joseph and more versatile. This is not even a debate.

Josh Norris’s contract and shoulder should be a bigger concern then Paul contract for a player who’s been a wsrrior his entire career and shows no sign of slowing down

7 years is a long time to sign Nick Paul at age 27.

Joseph’s contract gives us more flexibility as we bring in younger guys like Crookshank, Grieg, Ostapchuk and Boucher.

Nick Paul’s career consists of 3 seasons because he wasn’t good enough to make the NHL before that.

Joseph now is basically at the age when Nick Paul started to play full time in the league.

That’s all good, Joseph doesn’t have the hockey sense or engagement level of Paul and it’s not even close. Age slots is less of a concern then being good at hockey, Paul is better at everything on then ice then Joseph except skating in a straight line

I'm willing to give him more time, personally.

I'd rather have a guy closer to his prime when our contending window is open - Paul is a better fit for the Bolts who are contending now.

In any event, our competent 3rd line C is Pinto who is having a pretty good season.

Not sure it's been brought up, but can the Senators 'Kucherov' Norris' injury to their advantage to resign Zub DeBrincat, and Pinto. That is, they have Norris rehab and come back mid way through the season at a reduced cap to fit them all in 2023-2024?

Assuming Cap goes up by 5-6M over the next two summers to allow us to fit them all in pretty comfortably for 2024-2025 with Zaitsev fully gone and another 4-5M from dead cap coming off.

It isn't about the cap, it is about actual dollars.

We didn't because a "rich team", we are still poor. We just don't have an owner who thinks nothing is his fault, the new ownership understands that when a business wants to sell something, it is up to the business to attract clients.

Euge just thought it was the other way around since he was a conman. When you con your way into being rich, you become entitled to other people's money.

~16 month recovery for Norris? That Kucherov situation was a one off. Tampa won the cup on September 28th. The next season started in January and was shortened to 56 games, season ended early May. I don't know when Kucherov went for surgery following winning the cup but it was less than 8 months between games played.

Surgery was in December I think

the problem is where is the help coming from? What assets are we using to acquire said help? Especially on the right side?
Capspace and actual salary. Not having Zaitsev's salary on the books makes it easier for management to make moves than if he was on the roster

Agreed.

You win playoff games with Nick Paul.

Joseph is pretty meh, and Ottawa may have thrown out the big contract prematurely with that as well. Still time to see if it pans out, don't like it right now though.

Not sure if Paul would've taken the salary he currently has in Ottawa. Might have cost more since we're not even a playoff team yet.

So we didn't go after Ethan Bear because of...why?
He sucks.

He’d be our second best RD after Zub. He’s better than Hamonic and wayyy better than Zaitsev.
Oh that's why he hasn't got into a single game and was traded for a 5th?

Don't even want Paul at his current salary.

Felt he was truly one of Ottawa's most overated guys. He grew on people because he was here so long and his dick is big.
He's basically making the same as Joseph and is a much better player.

He's really good. Very hard to play against. A championship team loved his game. I'll take Cooper and Brisebois evaluation in this instance.

It's in the last couple of games where we're manhandled physically that we realize we're missing a guy like Nick Paul. I was still ok with trading him when we did, but we do need players like him. Our top 3 lines are soft as toilet paper.

Hopefully our younger guys (Stutzle, Pinto) mature a bit physically, and we eventually add guys like Greig, Crookshank and Boucher, and we'll be a bit harder to play against, but right now we're going to suffer against physical teams.
