Would Murray have to be on unconditional waivers tomorrow to be bought out, or could they still do that on Tuesday?

If it's Monday, there is probably a pretty hard deadline on this deal getting done soon.

I'm thinking it's probably Monday because a player has to clear waivers to be bought out.

Care to try again?

He definitely struggled last year, but I think the talent is there, and we're using him as a backup, so I'm not as concerned.

You're right, I was looking at Even Strength, not 5v5. Doesn't do much to change my view, when the eye test was obvious, his overall numbers were extremely poor, and the sample size is tiny.

Saying "we're using him as a backup, so I'm not as concerned" makes sense... if our starter has more than 2 seasons were he's played more than 10 games. If he's ever posted more than 10 wins before this season. If he has any track record whatsoever of consistency. If he's ever played more than 46 games in a season.

Etc, etc, etc.

If all else is equal, I take Murray before Gustavsson for next season without blinking. We've gone through this exact scenario the previous two seasons and it's bitten us in the ass both times.

So... I'm not clear on what you want to happen here. From where I stand, sending the leafs Murray wouldn't be helping them.
By sending them Murray we are helping them. Helping them never get out of the first round.

We've gone through the scenario of counting on Murray the last two seasons and it's bitten us in the ass both times. I'm done with Murray. Gus can back up, and if he can't, there's always an experienced backup that becomes available. That's how we got Forsberg, and it's how we got Nilsson before him. There is no world in which I put my trust in Murray again.

.906 SV% playing behind a putrid defense isn't terrible.

Outside of the 1st couple weeks where the team defense was perhaps the worst I've seen in years, Murray was pretty solid this season. Rebounded very nicely but couldn't stay healthy.

If the Leafs can't sign Kuemper or Campbell, Murray is arguably the best goalie available.
I agree with you. If we can make the budget work I'd keep Murray.

My point is not that we should bring back Murray lol. It's that we should bring in another goalie if /when we dump him.

Dubas is a cagey guy. I'd rather we impede his goals than aid them.

They probably know we are desperate to free up money for Giroux

That's just it. We shouldn't be the desperate ones.

Dubas is desperate to get a starting goalie because Campbell may have priced himself off the team. Let that nerd sweat it out.

That's fair, I don't think there are a lot of good value options out there though, if there were, teams like Edm and Tor wouldn't be considering Murray.

I have faith in Forsberg, he's shown well in his short time here, and I've liked Gus's play since we acquired him, sometimes that won't translate to good stats in small samples, particularly behind our D that can hang you out to dry, but the skill set to thrive is there imo. But, goalies are voodoo, a lingering injury can derail there game to the point that you wouldn't want them in the AHL little lone starting NHL games.

If his goal is to get Matt Murray to play in net for his team I would very much like to help him achieve his goals.

Maybe. But if Colorado can win with Darcy Kuemper then we might want to pause.

I could see one of Formenton or Brown being used as a sweetener to move Murray but I feel like a NHL body would have to be coming Ottawa's way. Someone like Kerfoot (NTC) or Engvall. I'm not really sure how that works for Toronto though.

Matt Murray is not good he hasn't been for a long time now + he will likely get inured. Matt Murray is one stubbed toe away from his 18th concussion. If Dubas wants him and it costs us nothing but some retention and pick I will drive Murray to them and bubble wrap him.

I feel like I cut Goose a lot of rope but imo he was the most deflating goalie who played for us this year by far. Lots of really bad goals early in the game.

I don't know about the money, or the personality/attitude, but I would look at Mackenzie Blackwood or Cal Peterson.

I’m worried about the kuemper rumours. Moving assets to get rid of Murray just to replace him with the same thing
Kuemper isn't the same as Murray at all. One of the better goalies in the league over the last 4yrs.

I don't get this looking for a goalie thing. We have Forsberg. If they are trading Gus and getting a backup..ok I guess. I would use Gus to get a RD and not for a salary dump.

When Brady's current contract expires he will have played 10 years for Ottawa at that point. I wouldn't blame him at all if he decides to move on, for a change of scenery if nothing else.

Neither will I.. or The cat if he does the same thing after 1-2 years.
