To Buffalo - Alex Kerfoot post SB, 2023 3rd from Ottawa, 2023 2nd from Toronto.

To Ottawa - Nothing

To Toronto - Matt Murray w/Buffalo retaining 33% 5M over 2 years.

Is Gus going to be part of this trade?

Considering senators depth at goaltending I much prefer giving him up to High picks or strong prospects.

Do not like the thought of Dorion trading big contracts in cap dumps. He'll give up way too many assets. Scary stuff. Even scarier thinking what Toronto will do to him in that trade.

This fits with the rumours out of Colorado that the Sens will be in on Kuemper.
How much does Kuemper expect? I feel like adding him means saying goodbye to any chance of Giroux and a top 4 Dman. I suspect we can at most have two of the three, and perhaps just one.

I guess it comes down to how much is moving down from 7 to 16 worth, or whatever the failed Murray deal was.

Is it a 2023 second? I could live with that

Is it one of our D prospects (Brannstrom, JBD, Thomson)? I'd be weary of that but it wouldn't be the end of the world,

Is it Pinto or Greig? F that...

I was guessing a 2nd and a good prospect like JBD. But I'm jaded.

I'd imagine somewhere between 5-6M. Not sure it necessarily precludes Giroux. The top-4 dman could end being Justin Holl coming from Toronto in any Murray trade, and he's very inexpensive.

I would also anticipate that the team is planning on cutting more money. You can probably bet on MDZ being bought out [saves 1.5M this season], Zaitsev is probably going [saves 2M] and there's a lot of smoke around Connor Brown going [saves 4M].

I'm curious about this as well. I don't think he was really that great last year. Colorado didn't even entertain bringing him back after he won the cup with them which is pretty telling of what they think of him as a goalie and/or his contract demands.

I read he wants a Grubauer contract which is scary.
Hmm.

Grubauer is better than he showed in Seattle, but I suspect just like Grubauer we'd see a big drop in Kuemper's numbers here vs Colorado. I don't know that we can afford that for a guy that imo is boosted by the team he plays for.

Paying goaltenders in FA is always scary.
Splashy moves for goalies (UFA or trade) have rarely worked out for the sens. Barrasso, Gerber, and now Murray. Only one remotely close to a success was Hasek but he had a solid team in front of him and only played like 3/4 of a season

We instead are more successful with the under the radar moves like Lalime, Anderson, and now Forsberg (TBD). Keumper feels more along the lines of the Gerber signing

I don't think there's a prayer Dorion offers big money to Kuemper. He's literally today getting out of getting absolutely scorched by a guy who should have been much more and he gave up assets to get him. I could see someone else if they've lost faith in Gus but I don't think it'd be anyone significant. It would be a huge slap in the face to Forsberg to sign him to a deal and then make him sit.
