There would definitely need to be a significant plus to Puljujarvi for it to be a fair swap.

Rumour has it that no team has been willing to offer much for Puljujarvi, much like how no team has been willing to offer much for Brannstrom.

If they were offered a 2nd round pick they'd probably take it for him at this point. I imagine most of the offers have been a 3rd or lower.

I'm still pissed off we didn't trade Brown at the deadline. Dorion should have been discussing terms with Brown and his agent on an extension and figured out that he wasn't interested in staying. Would have gotten way more in return at the deadline than trading him now in the off-season. Terrible asset management to deal him now.
Same old song and dance with you. There is no saying what we could have gotten for Brown at last years deadline, not a lot of contenders want to acquire term at that point. Brown would probably have the most value at this year’s deadline but it sounds like he is moving now.

Has to be more to it. Do not see the attraction at all straight up
Could Puljujarvi be the sweetener we keep hearing about?

Brown for Puljujarvi
Puljujarvi and Murray to Team X
Team X retains 50% on Murray and sends to Toronto

So does Kassian.

Kassian makes 5.8M in salary over the next 2 years. Even with Zaitsev's bonus paid for this year he makes 7M over the next 2 years.
Correct. Kassian moved with a 2025 2nd and a 2024 3rd so a 2023 2nd + 7th should do it.

EDIT: I am wrong, Puljujarvi needs a contract. My bad.

Puljujarvi makes 1.5 next season while Brown makes 4.

Again, we are looking at cutting salary in order to add an impact dman.

Brown for Puljujarvi is bad in terms of on-ice but it may allow us to get a good dman and that makes it worth it.

Big picture.

Would rather move Zaitsev, keep Brown and acquire a legit Dman.

Brown is one of our better players, would be a shame to lose him

Puljujarvi is a RFA and needs a new contract.

His ask will probably be $3-3.5M. Low end is probably $2.75M. Just came off 36 points in 65 games (45 points/82 game pace)

Because all he showed was he could play top 4 on a crappy D. Ideally he is out of the lineup if we want to be competitive.

He was on the top pairing looking good all around but since he did it on a Chabot-less defense somehow that makes it....less impressive?

Aiight.

IF we trade Brown and Formenton, I still wouldn't want Puljujarvi.

DeBrincat - Stützle - Giroux (pls)
Tkachuk - Norris - Batherson
Greig - Pinto - Joseph
Kelly - Kastelic/Gabrell - Watson

Cheaper and should be just as good. And cost no assets.

I've wanted Puljujarvi in the past because he's a great athlete and our mid-level wingers sucked. We don't have room for him anymore.

DeBrincat - Stützle - Giroux (pls)
Tkachuk - Norris - Batherson
Joseph - Pinto - Puljujarvi
Kelly - Kastelic/Gabrell - Watson

Greig tearing up the AHL between Jarventie and Sokolov, ready for a call up.

Sens need depth in case of injury. Adding Puljujarvi gives them a credible top 6 sub in case one of the top wingers goes down.

I don’t want them in a situation like last season where Pinto, White and Bishop went down and the « three centres injured » excuses started. Depth is key.

Sens can offer a 2-3 year deal for that amount and backload it, by that time guys like MDZ, Hamonic, and Zaitsev will be off the books. Could save 2 mil this season.

Paying that much for him, and giving multiple years, would be terrible, IMO.

He'd be in DJ's doghouse by game 5.

We just got rid of White, would be madness to add Puljujarvi.

Some team should take a flier on him on a 1-year deal. But It shouldn't be us.

Better be sure the DMan you are getting makes up for the downgrade Pulj vs Brown. Brown is pretty valuable , versatile player that makes positive contributions. I am not against moving him but we want an improvement. Brown + for the Dman .. skip Pulj all together would be better

If Brown already told Dorion he wants to test the market, I wouldn’t hold onto him as much as I like him.

I'm just not a fan of his game anymore. I think if we really needed to add a bottom six forward, which I'm not convinced we will need to do with Formenton around and Greig in the wings, we could find someone better for less or similar cost to trading Brown. Crouse anyone?

Brown being a UFA next year probably makes him hard to move for an established top 4 RD.

I agree it would be ideal but if I was a GM, I wouldn't trade a good RD for Brown considering he'll want a considerable raise next summer.

Good. There should be a few non starters, including Sanderson and a 2023 unprotected 1st.

If they want say Pinto/Grieg + 2023 1st (Protected) + JBD

Do we do that? Something in that range with Pinto/Grieg and the protected 1st being the cornerstone.

Yeah, no need at all. Can't help it, not excited about him.

Ken Holland is old and senile, you might be able to win that trade.

Also, you can bet McDavid is pushing for him since they played together in Erie. He knows how valuable a puck retriever like Brown would be on his line, compared to toilet paper soft Puljujarvi.

Combine that with Holland's timeline of probably 2 years... you might be able to get a great return.

So we've taken Formenton and Brown out and added Pulj. No merci

I think you are missing something. Our D was horrific so being a top 4 within that D is not overly impressive. He’s a 6-8 D this season if we acquire a legit top 4 RD.

Chabot - Top4
Sanderson- Zub
Holden - Hamonic
Brannstrom/MDZ

It is a downgrade, but I would say at a less important position. In a vacuum I'd rather have a weakness on a second line wing than a second defence pairing. If we get Giroux then it is a third line winger and less of a concern.

I agree but I wonder if he would have more value traded at the deadline even if we are contending for the playoffs. Selling him to a team desperate could get us a late 1st next year. I am not sure what his value is right now to teams but if I was Dorion and didn't love the offers I'd consider holding out and doing it at the deadline.
