Is it weird that late at night I don't use adult sites when I am lonely, I log on to capfriendly and just stare at this

If you can’t get off on that you don’t love hockey.

If we land a legit top 4 D, then playing Hamonic as the 3rd pair RHD 15-17 min night I’d say makes our D extremely deep (while also being a poor use of cap space).

Although you could argue that while Hamonic is overpaid, Holden is underpaid for what he brings.

Together, they come in at $4.6M. Not bad for a steady, veteran pair, that can kill penalties, and has over 1300 NHL games of experience.

And if you combine the two trades:

Ottawa sends: Evgeni Dadonov + 3rd
Ottawa gets: Travis Hamonic, Nick Holden + 3rd

Not bad!

If if if…
but if it works out that Holden, Hamonic, Brannstrom are our 5-7 defensemen to start the year, and we also pick up Giroux - we’re going to kick a lot of ass this year.

It certainly sounds like it'll be:

Chabot - XXX - 23 minutes a night
Sanderson - Zub - 20 minutes a night
Holden - Hamonic - 17 minutes a night

That would be ideal.

My bet is on Brannstrom being part of any deal for the top 4 RD, though.

All it takes is one or two injuries or a bad match-up and all those assets are gone for nothing.

Not to mention, I would only go all in once we have a track record for making the playoffs with the core that we have.
Now is not the time to go all in either. Don't understand that mindset on any level. All of this teams best players are 25 and under.

Tough situation. We have DeBrincat for 2 years guaranteed. Question marks after that.

Jonathan Dahlen also not qualified by the Sharks. I remember when some around here thought he was the next coming of christ and was livid when we dealt him.

Crickets from the people who were pumping his tires in Vancouver and SJ haha.

there is never a bad time to improve the roster especially when you have young talent on cheaper contracts.

That doesn't change the fact that Norris, Tkachuk, Stutzle, Formenton, Batherson have virtually zero playoff experience.

Adding a 24 year old goal scorer doesn't change that. Even Giroux doesn't move the needle when so much of our core have no experience at all.

We knocked off Malkin and Crosby in their first playoff because it's impossible to substitute real playoff experience.

I'm hoping the team takes sufficient strides this year to make ADB want to stay.

Ask any SJ fan how they feel about that. He played well for them it would probably be a mistake to let him go like that. Also I am not sure using him not being qualified as benchmark for justifying that trade is accurate. It was a terrible trade back then and is a terrible trade today

You have to get to the playoffs to lose in the playoffs.

Trade didn’t matter, it’s the damn extension that was the issue.

Sure, but just don't expect to contend right away.

The sooner we make the playoffs, the sooner we accumulate that vital experience.

Sacrificing the farm for one or two years is not worth it IMO - I think there are limits to how far you want to go "all in" until the team shows that it just needs that extra push to make a deep run.

I think a lot of Senators fans are running out of patience but more will be required.
