Money and everything aside. You guys take Klingberg or Chychrun? I saw Klingberg’s name linked to the Senators.

Chychrun while younger is also, I think, a better dmen style wise for us.

Sure, but just don't expect to contend right away.

The sooner we make the playoffs, the sooner we accumulate that vital experience.

Sacrificing the farm for one or two years is not worth it IMO - I think there are limits to how far you want to go "all in" until the team shows that it just needs that extra push to make a deep run.

I think a lot of Senators fans are running out of patience but more will be required.
I don’t want to mortgage the future for 30 year olds but to get guys under 25 I’m good with using some pick and prospect capital.

JC better fit age and style wise IMO. Also can’t ignore money, it’s a big factor and is in favour of JC.

Splashy moves for goalies (UFA or trade) have rarely worked out for the sens. Barrasso, Gerber, and now Murray. Only one remotely close to a success was Hasek but he had a solid team in front of him and only played like 3/4 of a season

We instead are more successful with the under the radar moves like Lalime, Anderson, and now Forsberg (TBD). Keumper feels more along the lines of the Gerber signing

I remember the Gerber acquisition and thought he would be very good based on his games played against the Senators. That did not work out so well. :)

Now is not the time to go all in either. Don't understand that mindset on any level. All of this teams best players are 25 and under.

Having a core under 25 was awesome in 2002. Today, with the cap? Time moves faster.

After the next two seasons, if Stützle and Sanderson develop as we think, we'll have much less flexibility.

Making a couple runs with them on cheaper contracts would be smart. I'm not saying we should be signing anyone for 5-7 years, but Giroux for 3? Or Chychrun with 3 left? Absolutely we should consider it.

The sooner we make the playoffs, the more experience our core will get, and the sooner we can win when they fully mature.

Ideally, Tkachuk/Chabot/Norris/Stützle/Sanderson would have a couple playoff series under their belts when the next wave of players make the team full-time (Greig, JBD, Boucher, Kleven, etc). For that to happen, we need to start competing now.

I really hope to see us somehow make a play for Marino instead of Chychrun or klingberg.
Seems like he's a good low risk, low cost option
No idea how we're gonna jettison zaitsev AND murray somehow

It's been a trip watching PD shake the league down seemingly in on everybody.

Wonder what this team is worth once we finish sorting out our roster 🤔

Jonathan Dahlen also not qualified by the Sharks. I remember when some around here thought he was the next coming of christ and was livid when we dealt him.

Where is @FLQ with all the whining he did about that trade!?!?!

That doesn't change the fact that Norris, Tkachuk, Stutzle, Formenton, Batherson have virtually zero playoff experience.

Adding a 24 year old goal scorer doesn't change that. Even Giroux doesn't move the needle when so much of our core have no experience at all.

We knocked off Malkin and Crosby in their first playoff because it's impossible to substitute real playoff experience.
Pens and Sens finished with 105 pts each, Sens having more wins in the season, we didn't knock them off because it's impossible to substitute playoff experience, we knocked them off because we were two fairly evenly matched teams and somebody has to lose. At best you could argue we had an easier time knocking them off due to their lack of experience.

We beat them in 5 games and then never beat them again.

How often do teams powered by playoff rookies win the Cup?

I think Marino joins the Sens so he doesn't have to play against Brady. Brady beat the wheels off him in January.

I don't think anyone is saying this team should make additions that will make them a legitimate cup contender next season.

We should make additions to make us a wildcard team. I don't think we're there yet.

In 06/07, Crosby was 19. Malkin was 20. Staal was 18. Fleury was 21. Letang was 19.

Our core is already much older.

Chabot will be 25. Tkachuk 22. Batherson 24. Norris 22. DeBrincat 25. Stützle 20.

These guys need to start playing in playoff games. They can't play their first one in their mid-20's. That'll be too late. We need a 5-6 year window. Not a 2-3 year window.

I'm not disagreeing at all.

In order for us to contend in 3 years we need to make the playoffs as soon as possible.

Klingberg is a UFA and would cost salary but not hockey assets. Chychrun would cost picks, prospects &/or roster players plus his salary. I would like to keep Formenton, Thomson and the 2023 1st rounder. So depending on Klingberg's ask, I might go that route. Trading Brown & JBD for Chychrun would be tempting.

Klingberg hasn’t been good in a while. We should stay away.
Yes plus we need a dman that plays with a physical edge. Someone that keeps the opposing team honest. Klingberg is big but not very imposing. Matt Tkachuk was dominating him physically in the playoffs this year. I would like to get a hitter back on our defence core as well as high skill guy for Chabot to play with. ( I know I am dreaming).
I don't think we have a very physical defensive group and it is a need. But so is a good partner for Chabot.

I hear Sens were close on Giroux. He wanted 8 million for 5 years guaranteed and no trade clause. There are plenty of takers.
