I can see Giroux wanting around $8M over two years, maybe three, but I think even his agent must know no team would allocate that amount over 5 years for a 33 year old. And he'd be virtually untradeable in years 4 and 5.

When’s the time to go all in? It’s be shown that a players prime is much earlier than in the 90s. 22-27 I believe is this statistical prime. It’s not like we’re bringing in expensive vets to get us over the hump. We are still building. We want to make the playoffs. We are far from that without acquiring really good players

Guaranteed?
Let some other team pay Giroux $8M for 5 years. Before the contract ends he will likely become an anchor rather than an asset.

I would do 2/16-17M for Giroux if need be perfect example of being smart we'll have him for 2 great years and cut bait at his age 36 season.

Hopefully by that time someone can replace him internally.

Disregarding that "rumour", the one thing I can see Dorion struggling with is if Giroux wants a full NTC/NMC, which he undoubtedly will considering he wants stability for his family. At this point, though, you're not getting many free agents without some sort of NTC.

So who's plan b for that 2RW spot if Giroux is looking for too much?
Are there any mean old gorillas out there that can play on a 2nd line and keep up with Jimmy and the Cat?
I guess it depends on whether C. Brown will stay or not, but as of right now it seems he wants to test free agency which probably means they will try & move him. Batherson will likely play on the 2nd line & Joseph on the top line as they tried last yr until Joseph got hurt. Sokolov plays RW & might get a shot at it or they will try & bring in a RW with one of their trades for Murray, MDZ, Zaitsev or Brown.

Tkachuk - Norris - Joseph
DeBrincat - Stutzle - Batherson
Formenton - Pinto - Sokolov
Kelly - Kastelic - Watson/Gambrell

Chabot - Zub
Sanderson - Hamonic
Holden - Zaitsev/Brann/MDZ

Forsberg - Gustavsson

I understand the desire for players to have NTCs so they control where they will play and when trades might be made. I can see offering an NTC with escape clauses for trades at the TDL and during the summer months to provide some stability during the season.

We already will get the chance to sign the real Forsberg on Wednesday.

Oh yeah he cleared the puck that one time

Scored two goals in a must win game to even get into the playoffs. He got hurt and Boucher dressed Chris Kelly for game 7 and didn’t even put him on the ice.

Anyways, trade was a win for Ottawa no matter how to evaluate it

If Claude is going to make the commitment to sign here one of the big reasons why is because we wants to be close to home you can bet your ass he wants a no movement clause.

Forsberg re-upped in Nashville the other day. I think it was 8*8.5

What's the concern with giving Giroux some form of trade protection? First of all, hopefully he'd be here for the balance of his career so it wouldn't matter. But if it doesn't work out and you have to move him are you worried that you might have to take a little less in trade for a player you acquired for nothing to begin with?

Crazy to let an opportunity like this slip through your fingers quibbling over a standard NMC.

Tkachuk Norris Batherson
Debrincat Stutzle Brown
Formenton Pinto Joseph
Kelly Kastelic Watson
Gambrell

Connor Brown is the perfect guy to play with them, he is great defensively and a puck hound. Has the ability to score 25 goals. Someone has to do the dirty work.
Too bad he wants out.

Im not sure he's the guy i wanna see with Jimmy and Cat. He wiffed on a fair amount of chances last year. Imo we're a better club if we can find a way to have him 3RW. Id even rather see Joseph with Brady and Norris, and Batherson with Jimmy and the cat
Batherson seemed to play better with Norris and Tkachuk. When he is the main distributer he seems to dominate more. While Brown isnt perfect I think he will create alot of chances off turnovers he creates for the other two to finish.

I honestly wonder who is going to go get the puck with Debrincat Stutzle Giroux. Alot of skill but someone has to be first on it and I dont see a guy on the line that has that skillset.
