Tough situation. We have DeBrincat for 2 years guaranteed. Question marks after that.

Also: Zub, Brown, Hamonic for only one year guaranteed. This could turn out to be a very narrow window of contention... (maybe all Dorion needs in order to keep his job for now?)

Now is not the time to go all in either. Don't understand that mindset on any level. All of this teams best players are 25 and under.
When’s the time to go all in? It’s be shown that a players prime is much earlier than in the 90s. 22-27 I believe is this statistical prime. It’s not like we’re bringing in expensive vets to get us over the hump. We are still building. We want to make the playoffs. We are far from that without acquiring really good players

I hear Sens were close on Giroux. He wanted 8 million for 5 years guaranteed and no trade clause. There are plenty of takers.
Guaranteed?

Having a core under 25 was awesome in 2002. Today, with the cap? Time moves faster.

After the next two seasons, if Stützle and Sanderson develop as we think, we'll have much less flexibility.

Making a couple runs with them on cheaper contracts would be smart. I'm not saying we should be signing anyone for 5-7 years, but Giroux for 3? Or Chychrun with 3 left? Absolutely we should consider it.

The sooner we make the playoffs, the more experience our core will get, and the sooner we can win when they fully mature.

Ideally, Tkachuk/Chabot/Norris/Stützle/Sanderson would have a couple playoff series under their belts when the next wave of players make the team full-time (Greig, JBD, Boucher, Kleven, etc). For that to happen, we need to start competing now.
Hunh? Tampa just won their two cups with all their players in their prime on their main pay cheques, that core group made their first run in 2015. Just took Colorado 5 years to get there. You win when your best players are in their prime. Sacrificing assets before the team is ready wont build a sustainable winner. I like the idea of adding these players of course i just dont want to come at the expense of younger players that will be around for when this team is really ready to contend.

The time to go all in is when you have already made the step of being a playoff team and know what you need to get to the next level. When your best players are in their mid 20's. I get that everyone is tired of losing but ultimately the goal is to win the cup. Blowing it early wont get them there. Stutzle is 20. Every team experiences losing before they make the next step this team finished 30 points out of a playoff spot. I think they add a top 4 D man hopefully through free agency. They make the playoffs next year then they start dealing assets when we know what the real holes are.

I am not surprised he wants that much money one iota. The sens got their forward now they need a D man and they only have so much $$$ to go around.
So who's plan b for that 2RW spot if Giroux is looking for too much?
Are there any mean old gorillas out there that can play on a 2nd line and keep up with Jimmy and the Cat?

Id do 6 mill x 3
I'd do a solid 7 X 3, MAYBE even 7 X 4, but what's this 8 X 5 madness? :scared:

I'm a little surprised. But I guess this is the 'legacy' one more kick at the can contract. It hinders our ability to get him though IMO with all the money going out on Sanderson, Stutzle, Norris, Zub, Formenton, DEFENCEMAN X, etc. It's near impossible.

So who's plan b for that 2RW spot if Giroux is looking for too much?

Yes, Connor Brown!

I'd do 7.5 mil per for 4 years of Giroux. The implications of that signing will mean more than just what's on the ice.

He's probably still a great 2-way 80 point winger if he's with Stu and Debrincat.
Claude Giroux is not a 7.5 million player currently let alone in 4 years. He's only hit 80 pts four times in his career and the last time he did was four seasons ago..

Tkachuk Norris Batherson
Debrincat Stutzle Brown
Formenton Pinto Joseph
Kelly Kastelic Watson
Gambrell

Connor Brown is the perfect guy to play with them, he is great defensively and a puck hound. Has the ability to score 25 goals. Someone has to do the dirty work.

Pens and Sens finished with 105 pts each, Sens having more wins in the season, we didn't knock them off because it's impossible to substitute playoff experience, we knocked them off because we were two fairly evenly matched teams and somebody has to lose. At best you could argue we had an easier time knocking them off due to their lack of experience.
We absolutely destroyed the Penguins in 2007.

I don't go past 2 years for Claude, Need to save money for Jimmy and Debrincat contracts and Giroux would come off the books by that time.

Last thing we need to Claude's contract to hinder us from signing either one long-term.

That would require a humongous Signing Bonus!

In their journey to become cup winners, both Tampa and Colorado sacrificed assets. It was a process of building and adding.

It's a journey, and there are different phases. Right now, we're in the phase where we should make the playoffs to get experience. I'm fine giving up some assets to make that happen.

Not all of our assets, but some.

Im not sure he's the guy i wanna see with Jimmy and Cat. He wiffed on a fair amount of chances last year. Imo we're a better club if we can find a way to have him 3RW. Id even rather see Joseph with Brady and Norris, and Batherson with Jimmy and the cat

Need a top 4 RD to shore up the defensive play of the team.

Wow the leafs didn’t qualify Kase. Is he done?
I know he has major health issues but I’ve always been a fan.

I believe they were worried about it going to arbitration and elected to avoid being stuck with a contract they don’t want. Similar to Duclair here in Ottawa.
