Pagnotta says Sens showing serious interest in Scott Laughton.

Not shocking whatsoever. Played for DJ in Oshawa.

We'll trade DeBrincat for a 1st+ and immediately flip the 1st and maybe a bit more for Laughton.

wonder if it's DBC in play.

Could see Philly wanting him and willing to back up the brinks truck.

They seem to be going full rebuild.

Rumour is they will be looking to trade DeAngelo and Hayes. Maybe even Konecny.

Laughton with that contract would be an unreal addition. Perfect fit for this roster.

Still maintain I want Rasmussen from Detroit.

Rasmussen would be a nice pickup but I don't think he's on the table, even for DeBrincat.

They need a good center more than another winger.

Oh man, I'd love to see Hanifin in Ottawa. I think his contract expires soon though so likely no go.

Just what we need, another offensive minded left handed D man. We only have 4 at the moment ....

I'd much prefer a Severson type of pickup, but obviously the cost for a player like that would be very hard to fit on this team.

Ya that's fair. I see no future for Brannstrom here or anywhere else and he can't seem to actually produce despite the label, but yes, we're stocked there regardless with 3 solid LD. I just like Hanifin.

Laughton would be terrific with Pinto on 3rd line, but we would be 1 top 6 LW short. Maybe we dip into free agency?

I think O'Rielly would be excellent add. Or Rodrigues. Veteran 2 way presence who play all-situations.

Tkachuk-Norris-Batherson
O'Reilly-Stutzle-Giroux
Laughton-Pinto-Joseph

That's a pretty deep core. Skating takes a serious hit.

I'd love to snatch Konecny and Laughton. Or Konecny ahead of Laughton, would be amazing with Stutzle.

I think that with Debrincat gone we pretty much need 3 forwards and one goalie.

Two middle 6 guys and one 4rth liner. We need depth big time. With Debrincat gone we need a solid 3rd and 4rth line. I'd like to see Joseph pushed to the 4rth line.

??? - Norris - Batherson
??? - Pinto - ???
??? - Kastelic - Joseph

Too many holes up front right now. Greig could take a spot but otherwise ... Gauthier would be fine for the 4rth line but he's a borderline guy. I'm not confident right now in the forward group.

Big holes. Giroux getting older. Norris injury history. Too many question marks...

Three team trade with the main pieces ( note: not taking into consideration the adds that will be needed, just strictly the main pieces)
Detroit : Debrincat
Ottawa: Laughton +
Philly: 17 ov+

I think Laughton/Greig can handle 2LW & 3LW. I'd like to bump Joseph to the 4th line over Greig, personally, and would ideally bring in someone for 4LW, too.

A $3M winger on the 4th line?
Our top prospect on the 4th line?
or
A guy who scored 0 EVG all season?

Hmmmm...

Price tag is probably the worst criteria for where a player should play in your lineup. Do you also think Calgary has been underplaying Lucic?

He had 10 in 69 games in each of the previous two seasons, and 11 in 56 the year before that, Idk but I think it's safe to say last year was an aberration.

Last year was absolutely an aberration, but by no means is he too good to be slotted as a 4RW.

I would like to keep Jo if we can fill out our roster without sacrificing him. But the comment that he is too good or paid too much for the 4th line doesnt carry water for me.

He also would still play decent minutes since he PKs, can do spot duty on PP2, and can jump up and down the lineup + play both wings.

I supose it carries about as much water as the zero ES goals argument.

I think he's ideally a third line winger, and like most third liners, there's no real issue moving up or down a line, so no issues with him being on a 4th line, but I do find many are far too quick to write him off

I think equating his previous seasons production with his salary as a factor for what line he plays on is a little funny. In fact, you’d be hard-pressed to find a guy coming off 0 ESG in 50+ games who has been pencilled in to an “all-in” teams 3rd line.

Joseph is coming off a pretty bad season and even at his best, he was an average 3rd liner. That’s not a slight. I think he has more to his game than he has shown so far in his career (besides that post-deadline stretch), but I am a little surprised I need to defend preferring Joseph on the 4th line over Greig in a situation where we’ve added Laughton and are looking for another FA.

He's basically Philly's Pageau.

Makes only 3M for the next 3 years. Can play LW or C.

Flyers apparently already turned down a late 1st offer for him. Would probably take at least the 17th OVR pick if we got that from Detroit for DeBrincat.

Pretty much. He's much better at wing than at center though which works out well for us since he could still take faceoffs with Pinto. Gives us a lefty and righty option on the shutdown line.

Also Laughton is more of an agitator than Pageau. I remember all the battles with Tkachuk every time we play the Flyers. Always hated him so I know I'd love him.

Part of it is that Greig has all of 20 career games, so him being in the lineup at all is far from guaranteed with his waiver status. I would not be at all surprised if he starts in the the AHL if it comes down to pushing Joseph down to the 4th line to have him on the third.

The argument against Joseph always seems to focus on one stat that everyone agrees is an outlier, his shooting percentage was a career low at 4% less than half his career norm, injuries and the Formenton situation had him playing with guys better suited to 4th lines,

So while some are happy to bring up 0 ES goals, I'm happy to point out he's far more likely to score 10 ES goals next year than zero; every time I see zero ES goals, I can't help but feel the argument is being a little intellectually dishonest.

In the end, I think Joseph will play all through the lineup over the course of the year, maybe not the top line, but the other three. He's a utility forward that if for no reason other than his speed, can play on any line.
