IMO if they could just return Formenton to this team that alone would make them a playoff team if they also retain DeBrincat. I understand the reluctance on management's part to pay too much for DBC given they will have to sign Sanderson to a big contract soon. If DeBrincat is moved I hope the return is a young bigger tougher two way winger who is very hard to play against, but can still put up 50 plus pts.

That's why I like Dubois because he can play both Centre or LW & I doubt very much it's a big deal for him to play LW especially if it helps the team win. If we loose a centre he would be the perfect replacement to move to centre. The only question is whether they can pull off this kind of deal likely a 3 way & if he would sign here long term. Good players can play anywhere & make it work, whatever it takes to help the team win.

Tkachuk - Stutzle - Giroux - 175 to 200 pts plus
DeBrincat/Dubois - Norris - Batherson - 150 to 175 pts plus
Formenton - Pinto - Sokolov - 100 to 125 pts plus

By just adding Formenton & Sokolov to that 3rd line centred by Pinto they potentially would have three 30 to 40 plus pt players creating a potential 100 pt line. The big question will be if Sokolov can translate his AHL success to the NHL & if he could become a playmaker (Batherson lite) for that 3rd line which would really help that line take off.

They can also put a decent 4th line together internally, but they have some of the resources to also go to the UFA market or by trade. I think Ostapchuk - Kastelic - Gauthier would be a decent 4th line, but I would prefer to see them add Lucic LW who IMO adds a little more offence than most enforcer types. Lucic - Kastelic - Gauthier. They need to move on from Brannstrom, Joseph, Gambrell, Kelly & maybe Gauthier if he doesn't fit into this team style.

Zero interest in Bunting especially what his ask will be.

I dislike the guy as well. More of a joke post. We could go all out for Barbashev, but I think we’d regret the contract.

It’s a pickle. I’m just hoping new ownership happens by the end of the finals or just after which gives the new group time to offer DeBrincat 7.775x8 with like 7 million in bonus money per.

Probably won’t happen and am bracing for a meh trade but you never know.

Maybe we ask Zub to talk to Barbashev and figure something out. Is Milstein his agent as well?

Debrincat to Dallas could be a good fit. They have some solid young players/prospects.

Financially it would be challenging for Dallas and there aren't that many pieces that make sense for Ottawa. We need guys who can play now.

Marchment probably needs to be part of any deal with Dallas and then I would assume another player like Dellandrea. Add a good prospect or a pick in there. Dallas likely need to move on from Suter or Faksa as well to make it happen.

It's not a terrible basis for a deal though and would really strengthen the bottom 6. For Dallas it offers them a long term top 6 option. Marchment has good size and plays in the high danger areas but came back to earth this season. Still a very respectable contract. Dellandrea has speed and plays a diligent 2 way game. This is a deep lineup with a bit of everything.

Tkachuk - Stutzle - Giroux
UFA - Norris - Batherson
Marchment - Pinto - Dellandrea
Joseph - Kastelic - Gauthier/Sokolov

If we lose DeBrincat and Vancouver ate 1.5 million or more, I think Garland would work here. Could sign Bunting, Frederic and Perry, trade JBD and Joseph for Laughton;

Tkachuk - Stutzle - Batherson
Bunting - Norris - Giroux
Garland - Pinto - Laughton
Grieg - Frederic - Perry
(Kelly - Kastelic - Smejkal)

Least liked team ever assembled in history?

Add Formenton and maybe.
I do love that group from 1 through 12.
The best part would be that as much as I love that group, and every shift would be a pleasure to watch - I think our defence is better.

Marchment has a complete NMC until July 1st, then a 10 team NTC every year after that.

Good point. He's from Ontario so I could see more incentive from his end but he did just sign this deal so he will use his leverage.

If he wouldn't waive I don't see how a deal with Dallas shapes up because they have big financial commitments.

What is the closest thing to Chris Neil in the NHL that we can get?

Tom Wilson? But I doubt he’s ever traded.

Thing is Norris is to ‘likeable’ hmmm… What could he do to annoy opponents other then bury filthy goals. Hmm…

Let’s get him a bearded dragon. Nobody like those.

If we end up moving on from DeBrincat then the team needs to nail down their identity and ensure that whatever assets we end up with on the roster play extremely fast & as mean as possible.
It’s 2 roster spots and then 4th line tinkering.

If you can for sure go 20g 50pts and play like Barbashev, Gudas, Chris Neil at $4-5 then I would like to order 2 pls.

The guys that play hard, relentless, fight and punish opponents + have the ability to play up and down the lineup are few and far between.

Jeannot
Wilson
M. Foligno
B. Tanev
W. Carrier
Hathaway
Frederic
Wood

Deslauriers is one of the toughest guys in the league and can play but not as good as Neil was offensively at this point.

Probably not many of these guys are available. Maybe Deslauriers. Rumours about Wilson. Hathaway is UFA. Frederic won't be qualified. Wood is UFA.

I would try Dubois at 3rd line C between Formenton/Pinto and Joseph/Sokolov (if he can make the team) and give that line equal TOI to keep the top 3 lines fresher. Either Formenton or Pinto could play wing on the 2nd line. Of course if that does not work, spin the players on the top 3 lines to find the best overall chemistry.

Deslaurier is age 32, 6'1 220 LW. He plays big and tough.

I really like Deslauriers. He's one of those guys you know other teams absolutely hate to play against. I'd love to have a guy like him on the bottom 6 to help Brady with the heavy lifting. Watson just wasn't cutting it. A 4rth like with Deslauriers and Kastelic would be a nightmare for opposing teams.

I would also like Lucic or Reaves there too. But I am sounding like a broken record on that.

Seems to want 2030 $ for his production. 60 ish pt C.. not great defensively
Does anyone know what Dubois really wants? Dollars, where to play, etc.
