DBC & Formenton to Blues for Pavel Buchnevich & Jake Neighbours. Blues do this as they get the best player in the deal with DBC. Also they add Formenton a good penalty killer and a potential 20 goal scorer. The Seas do this because Buchnevich can play in the top 6 and is on a cheaper contract than DBC.(5.8 million cap hit 2 more years) Neighbours fits the team identity..

Buchnevich has been over PPG for the past 3 seasons. I'm not sure Debrincat is better and Buchnevich has 2 years left at 5.8M while the other is due for 8M+ deal.

The value is probably close between both honestly because DBC is younger. It's an interesting deal though.

If Detroit is part of this deal I want Rasmussen. He's much better than people realise and he drives the play. He would fit in here like a glove. adding other pieces of course.

Yes well I never looked at it like if success doesn't really matter so you might as well be entertained and DeBrincat is an entertaining player to watch for sure.

Don't know the source .. Seems DeBrincat wanted to clear up the "throwing the coach under the bus" chatter generated yesterday.
success matters.

but you don’t need a great top 12 and top 6 to make the playoffs. you can be close to the cap and then get the depth playoff help at the deadline. many teams do this.

Why would you suspect that?

It sounds like Watson is most likely gone so the Sens will likely target someone to replace him this offseason. They will be looking for players that are cheap and are on short term deals.

Lucic played at the WC with DJ Smith as one of the coaches so he is likely more familiar with him now. He said in a recent interview that he wants to go the Corey Perry route by looking to sign cheap on a contending team. The tone of the interview seemed like he wants to be on a team that could bring some of his passion back for the game, so the Sens locker room could be appealing. He also played multiple seasons with Matthew Tkachuk and likely knows Brady fairly well at this point.

Corey Perry's parents live in Ottawa if I'm not mistaken, and he mentioned a few years ago that he would like his kid to be able to spend more time with them. That was part of the reason why he signed in Montreal a few seasons ago. I'm not sure how realistic of an option he is, but the family connection might lead to something.

Reaves sounds like he would like to stay in Minnesota. He said in his post season interview that he realizes that he is near the end of his career so wants to squeeze out his last bit of money and would also prefer term to create some stability for his kid. I could see the Sens being interested in signing him but not sure what his interest is in signing with the Sens. The quality of the locker room might be appealing to him though.
My view is Dorion will probably sign someone else. I did not know that Perry's parents live in Ottawa.

if debrincat does get traded we can also get one of garland/boeser for cheap (vancouver is apparently looking to trade garland for free). Could allow us to be more flexible in a debrincat trade

Not sure Garland would fly here, not exactly an Ottawa type player, especially with another 3 years at 5 million.

Garland strikes me as a high end Tyler Ennis.
Pretty good player and plays a relentless style of game.
20g 50pt guy

At $4.9 though I’d rather have Bunting as UFA, and use DeBrincat for assets somewhere else.
Edit: just saw we get garland for almost nothing so same idea.

Why is he not an Ottawa type player?
I kind of thought he was a high motor puck hound with good skill - only drawback is that he’s undersized.
What’s the deal with him?

Apparently the price for Hart start with two first. Wow crazy
I love these terrible negotiating tactics.

"We're not interested in trading Carter as we see him as part of the longterm success of the team"
"So what would you hypothetically be looking to get for him?"
"Price starts with 2 firsts..."

It's too cute by half. The correct response, if you're actually not interested in trading him, is "We're not interested in trading him at this time" rather than setting a price through the media.

Also, how many goalies have ever been traded for at least 2 firsts plus other pieces?

I foresee him getting the Chychrun treatment, and getting traded a year from now for a fraction of the original asking price.

Oh man if Fredrick is available that’s a perfect bottom 6 player for us. He’s from StLouis as well, and was on Brady’s WJC team. I wonder if they know each other.

If we move Cat for just picks and prospects,Vancouver will let Boeser and Garland go for a cheap price. They are entering cap hell and need to move someone. Boeser and Garland won't be as cheap as Bjorkstrand was, but not much more expensive. Heck, if we could move Joseph and a pick for one of them, I'd do it.

If we lose DeBrincat and Vancouver ate 1.5 million or more, I think Garland would work here. Could sign Bunting, Frederic and Perry, trade JBD and Joseph for Laughton;

Tkachuk - Stutzle - Batherson
Bunting - Norris - Giroux
Garland - Pinto - Laughton
Grieg - Frederic - Perry
(Kelly - Kastelic - Smejkal)

Least liked team ever assembled in history?

The "undersized" characteristic bothers me. We need to get bigger, more physical, and truculent.

Not sure if the Nucks would retain, but we might be able to get some savings in a deal with them if we move Joseph to them for Garland/Boeser. If not, I hope we can get some of their draft picks as a sweetener for taking Garland/Boeser

Vancouver wants to give Garland away for free, teams want to get picks for taking him on. He costs literally nothing.

Zero interest in Bunting especially what his ask will be.
