IMO if they could just return Formenton to this team that alone would make them a playoff team if they also retain DeBrincat. I understand the reluctance on management's part to pay too much for DBC given they will have to sign Sanderson to a big contract soon. If DeBrincat is moved I hope the return is a young bigger tougher two way winger who is very hard to play against, but can still put up 50 plus pts.

That's why I like Dubois because he can play both Centre or LW & I doubt very much it's a big deal for him to play LW especially if it helps the team win. If we loose a centre he would be the perfect replacement to move to centre. The only question is whether they can pull off this kind of deal likely a 3 way & if he would sign here long term. Good players can play anywhere & make it work, whatever it takes to help the team win.

Tkachuk - Stutzle - Giroux - 175 to 200 pts plus
DeBrincat/Dubois - Norris - Batherson - 150 to 175 pts plus
Formenton - Pinto - Sokolov - 100 to 125 pts plus

By just adding Formenton & Sokolov to that 3rd line centred by Pinto they potentially would have three 30 to 40 plus pt players creating a potential 100 pt line. The big question will be if Sokolov can translate his AHL success to the NHL & if he could become a playmaker (Batherson lite) for that 3rd line which would really help that line take off.

They can also put a decent 4th line together internally, but they have some of the resources to also go to the UFA market or by trade. I think Ostapchuk - Kastelic - Gauthier would be a decent 4th line, but I would prefer to see them add Lucic LW who IMO adds a little more offence than most enforcer types. Lucic - Kastelic - Gauthier. They need to move on from Brannstrom, Joseph, Gambrell, Kelly & maybe Gauthier if he doesn't fit into this team style.
New owner might be okay with signing AF before start of season.. Short and cheap until there is more fidelity on everything?

If we end up moving on from DeBrincat then the team needs to nail down their identity and ensure that whatever assets we end up with on the roster play extremely fast & as mean as possible.
It’s 2 roster spots and then 4th line tinkering.

If you can for sure go 20g 50pts and play like Barbashev, Gudas, Chris Neil at $4-5 then I would like to order 2 pls.

If we're looking for a Chris Neil type, it has to be one who is under age 30. No way in hell I want 35 year old Lucic. And definitely not moving an asset like Cat for a guy who might have one or two halfways decent years left.

Who would trade DBC for Lucic? Did someone actually suggest this?

Dubois wants to play for his beloved Habs.

Until he's asked to do something he doesn't want to and he quits on yet another team.

Stay far away from this guy.
Columbus actually made a great draft move in identifying Dubois as much better than Puljujarvi, only for Dubois to demand a trade a couple years later, what a shame.

I feel like Clb has been screwed over a couple times like that now,

Traded for Carter, he didn't want to be there.

Drafted Mike Reilly, I seem to recall him being one of those college hold outs

The the aforementioned Dubois.

I thought Hyman was overpaid and he's been great for Edmonton. Exactly what we need. It seems risky, but makes me wonder if we shouldn't write off Bunting as potentially working out similarly.

Pagnotta says Sens showing serious interest in Scott Laughton.
Would be a great addition to the bottom 6 but where does he fit in? Has he played LW in the past? Or would we move Pinto to the 4th line?

Also apparently they’ve turned down a late 1st offer for him, gonna be a steep price cause he’s on a good deal

Let’s say ADB is out. Regardless of what it’s for we separately trade next years first for Laughton.

We end up with Scott Laughton in a trade, Bunting as a UFA at $4.3, and Formenton is back.
Would you be happy with that as an off-season?

Tkachuk Stutzle Giroux
Bunting Norris Batherson
Laughton Pinto Jospeh
Formenton Kastelic Grieg

I'd prefer Bertuzzi over Bunting, but that's not a bad offseason.
