McDonagh is the only keeper on D. AV and the staff really like Moore's potential and skating ability. He stays. Sign him to a cheap 2 year bridge contract. The other guys? Not good. He wants to play an attacking style with the D pushing from behind. Generating offense. Not with this group.

Whats so good about John Moore? Is his potential higher than DZ's?

Nah. Its not that I don't like him. But its the play with the puck that is our big problem. I mean, we got Nash up front. We are a bit dissapointed with Step at no 1 center. Our depth is good though. And so forth. Who do we have to make offensive plays with the puck? That is our problem. We are not even remotely getting world class quality in that regard. We need to be as picky when it comes to offense from our blueline (duh!) as we are when it comes to our forwards.

We got guys that can be decent overall. Its not about filling a roster spot. I don't think AV is complaining because he don't have players to fill out 60 minutes. He is complaining because he doesn't get plays that are essential for a great team in the NHL 2013.

Who can provide those essential plays for us? Make those passes, beat the forecheck, beat forwards pressuring points on the blueline, drill the puck and thread the passes???

I don't think McBain is that player.

Our depth is good? Since when?

How many teams can have a Brassard and / or a Callahan on a 3rd line? I mean, Boyle, Dorsett and co are good 4th lineers for sure.

Callahan belongs on the 3rd line and Brassard is there because he is too inconsistent for the 2nd line. Are you serious?

Nothing to do with Stepan and Richards being our top6 centers, for sure

Richards has played better than Brassard this year. Why cant Brassard crack the top 6 on this team? Thats depth? Lol

He's more mobile, a McDonagh lite. Could turn into a very good d-man at this point he's on par with MDZ most nights IMO. When MDZ elevates his game and doesn't make mistakes it's not nearly as close, when Moore elevates his game it is. He's got a good shot too, nice and hard, usually low on the ice instead of wide of the net. :sarcasm:

AV loves Moore's skating ability. They believe he has a lot of upside. Moore can skate and shoot the puck. They want him to use his legs more to join the offense.

I don't think the coach thinks much of DZ.

So when will he show it? He hasnt looked good this year. And that sucks for the coach, Torts had no problem with DZ. DZ had good years under Torts. All of a sudden he is the odd man out?

Are you implying that Richards hasn't played well enough to be a top6 player?

Ola said our team has depth, i asked where is it? He said depth is having Callahan and Brassard on the 3rd line, i said how is that depth when Callahan IS a 3rd liner and Brassard hasnt played well enough to be in the top 6. If you ask me, None of our centers are really lighting it up but Richards has played better than Brassard, no doubt.

Give me DZ and i'm good. I'm just not sold on Moore yet

Look around the league. That is ridiculous.

There are, de facto, 90 first line players, 90 second line players, and 90 third line players in this league at any given time.

Forwards 180 - 270 in scoring in this league de facto represents some kind of bench mark for what is reasonable to expect from a 3rd line forward in terms of scoring.

That spread for a 3rd line during the last full season played in this league was the following:
32 pts - 18 pts

Callahan is on pace to score 27 goals and 42.95 pts. And he is coming back from injury. Brassard will score more than 32 pts in 82 games. Hagelin will score around 40-50 pts even if he don't get the ice time.

Two of three of Cally, Brass and Hags are de facto 3rd lineers on this team. All three make very good 3rd lineers in this league.

That spread for a 2nd line during the last full season played in this league was the following:
50 pts - 32 pts

A bit depending on how you label our forwards, more or less all our "2nd lineers" are scoring at a pace better than that spread.

Its mainly our top 1 or 2 players that aren't scoring up to par.

You ask me if I am serious when I say that we have good depth. The counter argument is IMO not based on any facts. We have good depth. On top of the players mentioned, there is nothing wrong with guys like Boyle, Dorsett and Pyatt as 4th lineers. I actually think Boyle and Dorsett make very respectable 4th lineers. We have a bit of a size/physical issue, but the depth is there.

I didn't get the impression that AV was enthused with anyone other than McDonagh, and he seems very unhappy with the MDZ/Moore/Falk nightmare Cerberus. I think he thinks Mooreis the most salavable but he isn't married to any defender on the team besides McDonagh.

You can give me all the stats and predictions all you want, the fact is that Brassard and Callahan are not as good as you think they are. I like them both, but Callahan hasnt done much and Brassard is just inconsistent. There are no for sure point scorers on this team so all those stats mean nothing

Callahan is a perennial 20 goal/50 point winger that plays all situations. Yes, hes having a pretty rough year so far but to say he isn't a 2nd line player is unfair.
