Callahan belongs on the 3rd line and Brassard is there because he is too inconsistent for the 2nd line. Are you serious?
Look around the league. That is ridiculous.
There are, de facto, 90 first line players, 90 second line players, and 90 third line players in this league at any given time.
Forwards 180 - 270 in scoring in this league de facto represents some kind of bench mark for what is reasonable to expect from a 3rd line forward in terms of scoring.
That spread for a 3rd line during the last full season played in this league was the following:
32 pts - 18 pts
Callahan is on pace to score 27 goals and 42.95 pts. And he is coming back from injury. Brassard will score more than 32 pts in 82 games. Hagelin will score around 40-50 pts even if he don't get the ice time.
Two of three of Cally, Brass and Hags are de facto 3rd lineers on this team. All three make very good 3rd lineers in this league.
That spread for a 2nd line during the last full season played in this league was the following:
50 pts - 32 pts
A bit depending on how you label our forwards, more or less all our "2nd lineers" are scoring at a pace better than that spread.
Its mainly our top 1 or 2 players that aren't scoring up to par.
You ask me if I am serious when I say that we have good depth. The counter argument is IMO not based on any facts. We have good depth. On top of the players mentioned, there is nothing wrong with guys like Boyle, Dorsett and Pyatt as 4th lineers. I actually think Boyle and Dorsett make very respectable 4th lineers. We have a bit of a size/physical issue, but the depth is there.
