Fortunately he'll be re-signed soon enough and all the ridiculous trades including him and various players on Carolina will subside.

Whether or not the team should re-sign/trade Marc Staal is a viable discussion, he does not look to be nearly as good as he was prior to the injuries. He definitely should be given more time, but he's been awful this year.

MDZ for Connolly is a deal that really makes a lot of sense. Therefore, it obviously won't happen.

I think Koekkoek is the more valuable at this point, to be honest. Connolly is the perfect buy low candidate, really struggling this year, I wouldn't want him to be the prime piece for Del Zotto. Would love to get him, though.

Think I mentioned that exact deal last thread - would absolutely love that trade. Koekkoek is going to be a great defenseman. Great skater, good size, fine hockey sense.

I dont think we get 2 prospects for DZ. Koekkoek is gonna be a great defenseman you say, but then you want them to trade him for DZ? Why would they do that? I'll take Connolly and Radko Gudas for DZ

That would be terrific. But Staal needs to pick his game up. He is turning the puck over at an alarming rate.

Robidas is out long term, Daley just got hurt and is apparently gonna be out a while, maybe Dallas would be desperate for MDZ?

I think Girardi is a better fit for Dallas. It will be tough to get fair value for Del Zotto from Dallas in my opinion. They seem like the core of Seguin, Benn, Eakin, Chiasson and the Russian are all there to stay. I don't think Dallas would move what Sather is looking for.

Anyone else impressed with Jamie McBain tonight? I know we were talking about trying to get him when he was with CAR and I wasn't opposed. Could be a good option as a RHD

He's not that good. Think dz multiplied by negative 5.

Yeah, he sucks.

Some of us here thought something around Stepan and McBain would have been a fair trade back in 2010, myself included. He's developed into a ****** offensive defenseman who can't score and is a liability in his own zone. Maybe this is why HFers aren't GMs.

Gotcha. I'll take your word for it, I honestly haven't seen him play much

I can't see Dallas wanting a pending ufa or giving up that much unless they felt like they can contend this year. MDZ is young and cheaper and can grow with the young core.

If we talk trade with Dallas, needs to be for a forward back in return.

I'd do something around Brett Ritchie and Campbell for DZ. Dallas fans think the former is untouchable, but if Benn, Seguin, Chiasson, Nichushkin are off limits, what else is there? We may lose this year, but three years from now, we'd win that one if Ritchie keeps developing.

Roussel?

I would think Chiasson would somewhat fair value for MDZ no?

If we could get back Roussel + very nice piece or Chiasson for DZ I would be incredibly stoked. I've been high on Roussel for awhile now, his current play does not surprise me whatsoever.

I agree I just don't see it happening.

Girardi gives them a vet presence and they would be interesting in signing him as a UFA so maybe they think trading for him gives them the leg up on signing him in the offseason. Also, he replaces Robidas on the right side.

If they can get one of their young forwards for DZ I am all in on that

Would love to get Neil from the Sens, he would add some grit to the Rangers.

Maybe a 2nd or 3rd for him near the deadline?

It's pretty interesting to note that Girardi is considered struggling, slow, can't pass, by this board, but he would fit great on Stars team built on speed and quickness.

Yes, the Stars are interested in him, so are plenty of other teams because they think he would make them contenders.
Makes you wonder why does this board thinks otherwise. Maybe it knows better?

He certainly would, but I don't like him personally. It was the same story with Brashear (when he smacked Blair Betts with a stick). On a personal level, I just don't like them and how dirty they play. He would certainly be a nice addition, but I just wouldn't like him. I couldn't cheer for him after the stuff he's done.

To me, it is about asset management. Girardi has value around the league. The four teams that I noticed on the trade board were most interested in him were DAL, OTT, TB and TOR.

Dallas has recently lost Robidas, and I am unsure what Daley's status is. There is a hole there.

Dallas also views themselves as an up and coming team, but one that is stuck in a tight division. They aren't making the playoffs this year, so why give up assets for a run?

Nah. Its not that I don't like him. But its the play with the puck that is our big problem. I mean, we got Nash up front. We are a bit dissapointed with Step at no 1 center. Our depth is good though. And so forth. Who do we have to make offensive plays with the puck? That is our problem. We are not even remotely getting world class quality in that regard. We need to be as picky when it comes to offense from our blueline (duh!) as we are when it comes to our forwards.

We got guys that can be decent overall. Its not about filling a roster spot. I don't think AV is complaining because he don't have players to fill out 60 minutes. He is complaining because he doesn't get plays that are essential for a great team in the NHL 2013.

Who can provide those essential plays for us? Make those passes, beat the forecheck, beat forwards pressuring points on the blueline, drill the puck and thread the passes???

I don't think McBain is that player.
