I will preface this post by admitting that I am slightly under the influence at the moment.
While perusing the free agent list on capgeek, something ridiculous hit me that I could see Slats doing. Now I think this is moot because I think both players re-up with their current team. What if we traded Callahan and Girardi at the deadline for futures (nothing specific, but at least a 1st rounder and a good prospect between the two of them, perhaps a depth player or two), and in the summer, Slats makes a run at both Marleau and Thornton? I realize that this idea is stupid but it could give Slats the best of both world: remaining a moderately competitive team while gaining futures. We all know old Glen will not properly rebuild this team. Plus, this gives AV more horses he can use for his system which kind of led to me thinking this ****.
