Tampa: Bjorkstrand, Gourde
Panthers: S.Jones, Marchand
Stars: Grandlund, Rantanen
Avs: Nelson, Coyle
Leafs Laughton, Carlo

That's 5 teams that had a better deadline than the Oilers. After the atrocious offseason that JJ put us in we couldn't afford to have 5 teams have a better deadline than us.
I'd say the Leafs are on par with the Oilers, they just don't also have the goaltending issue.

I haven't been overly impressed with bowman, but imo the real failure this year is firmly on JJ, he left bowman with barely any room to work with by making ridiculous signings and giving them all NMC when he wasn't even the full time GM, reeks of an over inflated ego. I actually like the fredric and walman additions, I just don't think its enough to push this team ahead of colorado/vegas/dallas.

Im willing to give bowman more time this summer to see what he can do, but pretty dissapointed. Im still gonna cheer these guys on, and maybe McDavid and Drai just go insane again and carry the whole team on their backs... but eventually these guys are gonna burn out.

How does getting a top 4 Dman and fixing our bottom six make you give us an F.

We have 4 top 4 Dmen for the first time for a decade for crying out loud.

Kane may be back for the playoffs too. You guys are seriously insane. Making gargantuan trades like what Colorado, Dallas etc did doesn't mean you win the Cup.

We made huge changes on July 1st. So did Nashville. How did that treat us and them?
No offense, Karm, but you're kind of the king of freaking out on here any time another team makes a move. So if people want to vent a bit today, in the moment, about the team not making moves you may as well just let them. I'm gonna go touch grass but I don't begrudge those that want to get a little upset at a rather pedestrian effort from Bowman.

I just can’t imagine how stupid management is. Holland tried this goaltending duo last year, without a legendary PK no way we make the finals.
Bowman is trying to run the same duo, if we make it to the 2nd round I’ll be shocked. No way we make the final 4.

"Don't need to have a good PK if you don't take any penalties."

Probably a quote from an executive for a sun belt team.

When the Oilers Joined the NHL in 1979 as per merger and NHL draft rules the Oilers were allowed to keep only 2 skaters and 2 goalies.

Somehow almost half century later this roster reminds me of that.

The Oilers have had McD and Drai for over a decade now and observe how little they added to that.
Blair McDonald looked good alongside Gretz. It's strange how guys like Skinner and Arvi can't seem to find half as much success alongside Drai--but I hope they do play in the top 6 down the stretch. The club has to recognize that Kappanen and Podz are never going to be goal scorers.

The master plan, of course, should you hate it or hate it, is to sign Tristan Jarry when he is bought out next season. Trains with D Schwartz, former Oil King, extremely washed. It's the EDM way

Get ready for the blow back when this is their big summer move now, lol.

Our biggest needs were 2 top 6 wingers, a right side d, goalie, right shot 4c.
We got none of those things.
I want to establish that the time I am writing with is not intended to be argumentative!

Which RHD would we have wanted? Ristolinen? There was a lot of competition for these guys and I think we got an excellent player regardless.

2 top 6 wingers is a total pipe dream. We have to hope Kane is effective, and that some of the new guys get some traction.

A goalie for sure would have been great, but throwing a new guy (in our price range assets & cap wise) wasn’t going to materialize.

Plus our current #1 literally was 2 goals away from raising the cup.

I know it’s hard to feel left out, but spending huge assets on players who might not be an improvement has fooled us before.

(Look at how many of us approved of Skinner & Arv over Holloway and Broberg

@CycloneSweep summed it up pretty well

If the price of food is expensive, do you just never eat in hopes it comes down? Or do you eventually say "well the price is what it is" and eat?

In fact I do exactly that. There are luxuries such as eating steak every day, and reality of spending wisely and looking for a bargain.

Sometimes I eat what I can afford.

Not that we needed another lesson, but today showed us again why the tax free states have such a huge advantage.
This actually false. Both Allan Walsh, and one of the agents that comes on Bob's show, explained why it's false and the tax deferrals and shelters available to contractors who work with US dollars.
