Gardiner for RNH, Gagner and the 7th.
Leaf fans say no to that, we wouldn't be offering up enough

Hearing that the Leafs and Oilers ARE talking. Could be some pretty decent size pieces involved.

They can talk the talk but can they walk the walk?
Yup. GM's seem to be dragging their feet as per normal. The salary cap continues to cripple them.
I don't have any expectations at all. NHL GM's dragging their feet post-salary cap is just par for the course. They're incapable of operating within it (for the most part).Say what? The season literally ended two days ago. Free agency hasn't started yet and bought out players can't be signed until July 5. Talk about high expectations...

I believe he's talking about Oleksiak..a "potential" top-paring d-man
no thanks to Gagner + 7th for Oleksiak
You're setting yourself up for massive disappointment but to each their own.
Let the spinning begin
David Staples @dstaples 2m
OK, how many of you would trade Gagner and 7th overall for a current top pairing dman about 25 years old?
Oleksiak is only 20, though. He said 25.
Edmonton would be all over a Gardiner for RNH swap. His shoulder is a bit of a concern, but I agree that it's a decent basis of a trade.
You have to read the whole thing.
I honestly thought Gagner+#7 for Oleksiak was a joke by Staples. If he's serious then wow... some of the crazy proposals here are much more realistic.
That's essentially trading:
(1)- The Oilers 2nd line centre (regardless of how highly reharded he is here... he is undeniably the default #2C on the Oilers and with RNH out with surgery until xxx and Horcoff and Belanger very likely gone, Gagner is the only NHL quality C on the team. They have Smithson (likely gone as well), Lander (4th line at best) and I guess Ryan Smyth after that.
(2)- #7 which will draft Monahan/Lindholm/Nichushkin/Nurse... who could very well become the future 2 way #2C OR a very solid top six big winger they badly need on the roster OR a big physical dman in the same mold as Oleksiak.
In short.. WAY too much to give up.. and I agree, either asset alone would be an over-payment at this stage considering how valuable that #7 is and how Gagner is "IT" currently as far as centres go on this team.
Again for dramatic effect... trading Gagner away and then also dealing Horcoff/Belanger + having RNH miss even a few weeks to start the season (likely).. would mean something like this on the roster:
Lander
Smyth
Arcobello
VandeVelde
I expect the Oilers to sign another C or 2 if that's the case but even so, MacT has to acquire those centres before dumping Gagner because if he strikes out in other trades or on the UFA market... it's a titainic like trip to the basement for the next several years. (Not that we aren't used to that but some of us would like to see a playoff game in our lifetime again.)
You've pretty much hated everyone at this point.I've been following Nielson on twitter since he joined 1260 a few years back...he has never broken any oilers news ever.
How about MPS to Chicago for Bolland?
Also, Clutterbuck and Cullen would be aquirable players!
Bolland and Clutterbuck on a line... Sheesh!
Better get a big league knuckle chucker in to settle down the guys they get riled up!
