You really don't see what is going on here?

Nonis isn't finding a market so he's getting Dreger to drum up interest. When a local beat writer does that it's killed "kissing ass". Garrioch is a mouthpiece for Melnyk is a prime example.

However when a NATIONAL insider for a NATIONAL station is doing that...just embarrassing.

I'm not sure how saying guys like Gardiner and Van Riemsdyk are available is doing any favour for the Leafs. If they're not getting interest, it's for the guys no one wants.

So how would that tweet generate any more or less interest than is already out there?

Holy overpay Batman! Either asset would be at least on par value wise not both!

Not even. Gagner and the 7th individually are worth a lot more than Oleksiak IMO.
The Oilers already have Klefbom who would be the ideal D partner for Schultz, don't see the point in giving up any valuable assets for Oleksiak.
Staples is out of his freaking mind.

Yep, he apparently bombed the interviews though. Read it somewhere on these boards that the scouts were saying he had the worst interviews of anyone at the combine.

He'll likely be a physical beast but I'm not sold on his attitude or work ethic.

I'd be more interested in how he interviewed with the Oilers...and even then, if he did badly it doesn't mean the Oilers would be wrong in picking him if they feel he's BPA at #7.

As an example, back in the day when they were interviewing a quiet Czech kid named Ales Hemsky he apparently didn't interview well at all. Obviously it didn't deter the Oilers from making the right choice.

Although I still wonder if Lowe did a double take after, during Hemsky's quick interview spot with TSN done mere minutes after being drafted, he said how proud he was to be picked by the Toronto Maple Leafs.

That was an awkward couple of seconds after he realized his mistake, poor kid looked totally nervous and embarrassed. Anyone else remember this?

is it just me....but does anyone have the feeling....this might be the start of an offseason of a lifetime? It feels way different then any that I've followed before....seriously I'm getting chills of the possibilities.

You're setting yourself up for massive disappointment but to each their own.

If Nich is there then I take him if the three centremen are gone. That would fix our top 6 adding a huge body.
Hall; Gagner; Yak
Nich; RNH; Eberle
Then getting players like Clutter, Smith, Greening, and Peverly. This would solve our bottom 6 with plenty of players that can take faceoffs.
Greening; Peverly; Clutter
Smyth; Smith; Brown

That is a very nice bottom 6 also with plenty of guys that can win faceoffs and provide secondary scoring.

are any of these intervies posted so we can see them? or are you not sold on his attitude and work ethic because someone here quoted an article that has no proof even happened?

Ah-HAH! I found it!

From DousedInOil's Prospect Thread:

Tweets from Gare Joyce....interesting stuff.

Gare Joyce ‏@GareJoyceNHL 1m

Two scouts said NJ would look goalie, possible 2 move pick & get him later. I agree: would b way overdrafting at 9 #nhl #draft

Unanimous: Drouin highest hockey IQ, Domi closest, maybe more creative @ some level. #NHL #draft

Re Nikushkin: Sr scouts all laughed. Sez 1 "Don't remember worse combine. Quit tests, brutal intervu. Shame. as talented." #NHL #draft

Re #Zykov "Would b a top 10 all things equal, will go 20-30 just on Russian thing. Really good player. Best intervu @ the draft. #NHL #draft

Re Halifax goalie going to Jersey as rumoured: Sr scout take "athletic but unpolished, will need lotta work b4 ready" #NHL #draft

#NHL #draft cont. On S Jones, sr scout sez: "Don't see hockey sense, not even bit of edge, wonder about attitude, v avg interview @ combine"

Spoke to 3 sr scouts Mon., none w Seth Jones @ #1, 2 don't have SJ @ #2 & one has him #4 behind Barkov ("not sold on him, see Erik Johnson")

INTERESTING....

This is what I can find quickly on the net - lunch is about to end.

Sorry I can't remember where I saw those quotes :/ I'm pretty sure it was on our forum somewhere though.

all im saying is i dont trust anyone in the unmainstream medias opinions on foreign players, just last year they said we shouldnt draft yakupov because he was cocky, arrogant and not a team player................

Fair enough :) If it was one source I'd be a little more skeptical but I'm hearing similar things from all over the place.

Edit: Just in case you didn't see I found the part with the scouts and it's above your last response :)

So Hossa might need back surgery. Maybe it's just me, but I'd want to save a compliance buyout just in case he comes back and sucks.

Pretty much. Only difference being that under the 4 conference format you could have a cup final of LA-Chicago or Boston-Pittsburgh for example.

I believe you are incorrect. There is no conference crossover anymore(in the sense that 2 east or west teams can meet in the finals). They were discussing this when they tried to do the first realignment, but it didn't stick when the new proposal went through.

so much opportunities on the market. Tambo would probably end up with signing Jon Blum after smoke settled. curious to see what MacT will pull through.
I'm not going to get carried away with what MacT might do. It's early but my expectations are already starting to drop. He may have promised far more than he can deliver.

God would Lecavalier be perfect here. One of the most overrated players of all time IMO, but still an excellent top 6 center with size.

How about MPS to Chicago for Bolland?

Also, Clutterbuck and Cullen would be aquirable players!

Bolland and Clutterbuck on a line... Sheesh!

Better get a big league knuckle chucker in to settle down the guys they get riled up!

Well, I suppose that depends on what your definition of right choice is :)

There has always been times where he looks like he has taken a night/week off (though that's totally dependent on opinion).

Overall he hasn't meshed well with the team, by many accounts, and at this point we're looking to trade an underwhelming, underproducing, injury-prone forward.

How much of that is a result of work ethic and whatnot can't be determined but it leaves the door open to be wondered :)

OK, how many of you would trade Gagner and 7th overall for a current top pairing dman about 25 years old?

For sure... Gotta make a play for him, but i doubt we make the short list.
He wants a team he can get #1 minutes with.

Yup, can't have a Boston-Pittsburgh final. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but isn't it who finishes first in each division finish first and second. The second and third place teams make up for spots 3-6. Then there are two wildcard teams.

Which I agree with, but I see staples twisting that. He's calling Oleksiak a top pairing d-man at 23 or 24, so why wouldn't you do the trade is his question.

Like Gregor said yesterday and he just tweeted

Jason Gregor ‏@JasonGregor 2m
@dstaples I agree with that, but trade him for more established player. Oilers need fewer wildcards, and more face cards.

You give up 7th and gagner, it has to be for NHL players that have proved themselves.

I'd be pretty shocked if Gagner and the 7th got a legitimate top pairing guy...
