I mean I like the kid, but even if he turns out to hit his max potential I don't know that he's worth that much.

Old format. Win your division in the playoffs and play the winner of the other division in the Conference Finals.

Personally I hate it.

That makes it more interesting.

So what you're saying is the only difference is they call them Divisions instead of Conferences, so the point is still the say, Chicago could easily trade Bolland to the Oilers and they wouldn't have to play in in the playoffs until the Stanley Cup Semi-Finals, like I said early.

Tencer answering questions on twitter, some notable stuff -

Horcoff + Hemsky traded 'soon'.
Horcoff most likely to be traded before/at the draft
Fistric won't be back
'very possible' about landing Clutterbuck.
Belanger likely only buyout (obviously)

Also said 7th and Hemsky could get Carolinas 5th pick.

Sucks that Fistric won't be back, we better be adding a Boychuk type player to the club then because we are soft on the blueline.

Staples has lost his mind

One guy I'd love to see the #Oilers trade for: Oleksiak. He and Schultz could be monster pairing for a decade. Gagner and #7 for Oleksiak.

Holy overpay Batman! Either asset would be at least on par value wise not both!

Puck hog, worst interview at the combine, quit during his combine tests.

IIRC, his team went to the finals. Mackinnon, Jones, Drouin didn't participate in the exercises. Nichushkin came mainly for the interviews. He even said he wasn't ready for the tests but despite that still did them. He terminated his KHL contract to come play here and only reason he is saying that he's going back to the KHL if he doesn't make the NHL is because the contract was terminated upon the condition that if he doesn't make it, he returns. Plus, he's staying in North America and training here with an institution that specializes in getting college football players ready for the draft combine.

I really get the feeling that they might be bringing eager back for the season.
He finished strong in the ahl and apparently had a good attitude. With a new coach perhaps a fresh start? Has anyone heard anything? He kind of fits what Mac T is looking for, bottom 6 players that can contribute. Eager Bolland Clutterbuck would cause the opposition fits. Imo

is it just me....but does anyone have the feeling....this might be the start of an offseason of a lifetime? It feels way different then any that I've followed before....seriously I'm getting chills of the possibilities.

I'm pretty sure there are 20 or more NHL teams who are going to seriously go after Lecavalier. I don't expect EDM has much of a chance unfortunately.

Pretty much. Only difference being that under the 4 conference format you could have a cup final of LA-Chicago or Boston-Pittsburgh for example.

As an Oiler fan the best thing you can do is drop any expectations and just get ready to watch whatever form the team takes next season.

The Barkov theory falls apart if...

Avs select: Nathan MacKinnon
Florida selects: Aleksander Barkov

Tampa Bay selects:... Can we have Vincent Lecavalier back?
In that scenario, do they select Jones and hope to hell they can lure Bozak?

In that scenario TB Yzerman's voice cracks from elation when he selects Seth Jones on the podium.

A pairing of Hedman - Jones.....

if there is one thing we have learned its ------prepare to be disappointed.

the off season is way more enjoyable when you assume nothing will happen and then somethign does

Yep, he apparently bombed the interviews though. Read it somewhere on these boards that the scouts were saying he had the worst interviews of anyone at the combine.

He'll likely be a physical beast but I'm not sold on his attitude or work ethic.

are any of these intervies posted so we can see them? or are you not sold on his attitude and work ethic because someone here quoted an article that has no proof even happened?

Yeah even if the Oilers make a bunch of trades that 'on paper' look decent, I won't get my hopes too high until this team is pushing for the playoffs deep into the season.

No matter how Nichushkin interviewed, if he's available at 7th, you take him imo. Or you don't and trade the pick.

I disagree. IMO, him terminating his contract and staying in North America and training here shows he's committed to make the NHL.

I can't remember which thread I was looking at on these boards that were showing different scout's comments on a bunch of the players, sorry. I know you can go to the 2013 Draft Combine thread and see some video of him at the combine though.

Guess we'll have to agree to disagree. IMO, him terminating his contract and staying in North America and training here shows he's committed to make the NHL.

Oh don't get me wrong, I think he's committed to making the NHL, I'm more worried about what happens after he makes it. Is he going to turn into another Penner?
