Lol, ok. Winning games by the skin of your teeth isn't how you win a championship. It would take a miracle run.

Which game in last year's SC was not by the skin of their teeth? this is hockey, in the playoffs, almost every game is going to be by the skin of your teeth.

IIRC, I was the one posting facts. Is Dan Girardi gonna chip in enough points to backup McDonagh? Will even McDonagh continue putting up points in the playoffs? Is Derek Stepan going to, not only suddenly become at least a DECENT playoff performer, but do it through 4 rounds? I'm going to root for them just as hard as any of you. Will having your Top 2 centers SUCK on Faceoffs not bite you in the ass?

Last year, Beav and Step had a combined 6 points in 22 combined games. Forgive me for not having faith in them, especially when people have been *****ing about Stepan ALL YEAR.

This is actually a legit point. I remember being depressed last year thinking that we won't win as long as we have this team of playoff chokers. That said this is a different coach and they play differently. Let's wait and see.

Wait - that game doesn't matter. You were about to enlighten us all about the difference between a regular season game and playoff game.

Game 7. 1994. That was by the skin of our teeth. And a championship was won.

You what really has killed the Rangers in the past two playoffs? In 2011-2 it was the Devils 4th line, and last year it was Boston's 4th line (and Torey Krug.) I don't see that being an issue with the current group of Boyle/Moore/Carcillo. (A big reason to not move Boyle, IMO.)

A different coach that has consistently led dominating regular season performances that fizzled out into postseason disappointments. Big reason why I am not holding my breath yet.

The power play and the bottom 6 has really killed the Rangers in the playoffs the last couple years.. something that is both right now considerably better.

well his goal tending sure did.. he should have a cup if he had any kind of goaltending performance that playoff

I would take this team over that 109 win team..

Honestly? So would I. This team passes the eye test since that horrible start (and outside of that weird stretch in December). Or more specifically they don't get stuck in their zone the entire game and rely on Hank to be superhuman. That said, that's the only time I can remember Rangers fans having faith in the Rangers at all.

Realism is shunned around here.

Except you guys aren't being realistic. You're being cynical and negative. NYR have been the 2nd best team in the East since stumbling out of the gate at 2-6 or 2-7 or whatever it was. Do the math since then. It's much easier to be critical of your team that you're watching every game. Do you think the rest of the East doesn't take the NYR seriously? I don't.

Yeah, IMO this team is deeper at forward than the 11-12 team, slightly better on D, and equal in goal. Swap MSL and Callahan an that's out best team post lockout, IMHO.

I don't think many people think this team sucks. I think many people feel they can both compete this year at a similar level they are at now while still recouping some assets for the future as well as there are quite a few players who won't be resigned.

There it is. The old "anything is possible" that Sather has lived off of.

not quite sure what ya mean.. lots of negativity around these parts eh?

is that not true though? so nothing is possible? hes built a good team.. these rangers are good.. can they be good at the right time? who knows, no one knows. isnt that why we watch?

i dont understand where you're coming from man.

I agree that it shouldn't be your teams motto because at that point it is about being complacent and hoping for the best. On the flipside should LA not have traded for Jeff carter when they were an 8th seed? Anything can happen worked for them that year. I think it is wrong to build a team around anything can happen but to write off a playoff team because they are not elite is also wrong in my eyes.

Don't presume you can tell others what to believe, feel, and do.

I'm as big a fan as anyone else. But there is a line between goggle wearing fandom and being realistic.

All I am saying is sports are a crap shoot ...

2011/2012 - Kings won the SC finishing 8th in the West
2011/2012 - Devils won the ECF finishing 3rd in the East
2009/2010 - Flyers won the ECF finishing 7th in the East
Super Bowl XLII - Giants beat the Patriots who haven't lost a game
2011 Dallas Mavericks beat the Miami Heat

... I can go on and on ....

Someone that gets it. Nice post. Don't trade Boyle. Resign him. Anything else is dumb.
