It happened 2 years ago with Nash. 3 with Richards. And here we are not much better off.

Nash wasn't traded for until the off season.. he wasn't traded for at the deadline when the Rangers were making their run. if we had Nash, Richards and Gaborik during Richard's first season who knows..?

Not pointless, it's a balancing act. Not just go for it no matter what.

It's not a 'NO MATTER WHAT' .. it's the right call. This team is very good, the chemistry is starting to click, they are in their prime, they have tons of balance throughout the lineup ... IMHO what they lack is one more elite scorer to put them right there with PIT and BOS (in terms of coming out of the east) ... yes that is my opinion but I think most people would agree if you took this team as constructed and added MSL to it ... they become a very dangerous team in a 7 game set.

Or even better question, how often do you have a chance to fix your biggest weakness with one player and the player says he only wants to play for your team.

You take that and run

I think people are really undervaluing what MSL would do to this team OFFENSIVELY speaking. I would put us up there right behind PIT as far as offensive threat is concern.

Yeah, but I remember CBJ was asking for Stepan, Dubinsky, Anisimov, Kreider and a 1st. That deal was never going to happen for those assets

is Ryan Callahan going to acquire a future top center or something?..

For people who don't consider this team a contender with or without St. Louis, it seems like bad asset management to trade for him when he doesn't fill our biggest holes. Fast forward 18 months from now, we have no Cally, potentially no St. Louis, probably no Cup, and no draft pick (2nd round for example) and one less prospect (say Jesper Fast).

Zuccarello and MSL on the powerplay is :eek::eek::eek:worthy

no, I get that... and its a risk.. but the Rangers are playing very well right now, the chemistry is clicking, the defense has been superb lately, and Hank is the best goalie in the world.. If the Rangers could score more goals in the playoffs, they could have gotten alot further, MSL would help that.

I would love St. Louis, I'm just unsure if it's a wise move...

What is the cost?

I'd move Callahan elsewhere and be okay using some of those pieces to get MSL.

I think thats what we should do too.. TB doesn't want Callahan since he's a rental and has a hole in his head apparently.. So flip Callahan for assets and use some of those assets for MSL.

Regarless of what they do with Callahan, I hope for a smaller move on the side to acquire more size, speed, grit, and scoring depth.

Jamie McGinn type.

The more depth like that, the better. Call it redundant, i call it rolling depth and making matchups more difficult for the opposition.

That's the risk ... you have 3 options

# 1 trade Callahan for picks (probably nothing too crazy)
# 2 trade Callahan for MSL or another impact player for a short term run
# 3 keep him and hope her resigns (unlikely)

Of course it's a risk ... it's always a risk. You could trade him for a first round pick ... get a guy everyone is nuts about and he's a bust ... then what? Or you can hold on to Cally .. and he can just walk ... for nothing. You can trade him for MSL ... maybe get to the ECF .. lost a heart breaker and next year he declines ... it's all risk.

I think we can go far too, but when all is said and done, we'll probably be left with some fun memories, and worse off in the future.

depends what we give up.. a 1st rd pick in a ****** draft is not going to kill out future.. neither will giving up a prospect like Kristo or something (and I really like Kristo).. Stepan, Nash, Kreider, Zucc, Mcdonagh.. those are the future as well as the now, and none of those will be moved in a deal for him.

On the other hand,

18 months from now we could be a year or months removed from a SC championship, MSL takes a cap friendly contract and continues to produce. Have moved an asset or two to recoup a pick... Gotten really lucky in a smaller, not really noteworthy deal throw in i.e McD... I could keep going, but I'm sure you see what I'm getting at...
