No, Callahan wanting money that he doesn't deserve and people being pissed off at him. I disagree with it being his "fault", as you're supposed to get the most you can, but I don't see how it's "shame on" someone for being pissed at him.

Regardless of what has been rumored from Boomer or any other source, this whole mess is definitely not going to figure itself out until trade deadline day, March 5th.

I never blame athletes for trying to get as much as they can, but in my opinion he is not worth anything above 6 million. He simply doesn't produce enough offense or can be depended on to play a full season to warrant giving that kind of money.

I also think his game has changed over the years and doesn't seem to hit and play as feisty as he did when he emerged into the league wearing #43... It's been great rooting for the guy but he has unrealistic expectations of what he should earn for what he brings to the table.

There is a deal to be made....Realistically, there is no way you can expect to get MSL in a 1-for-1 trade, the rangers would have to add..... I would gladly take a Stewart+pick for Callahan trade, seems more realistic.... People expecting any thing more than that for a playoff rental have unrealistic expectations of rental value...

I'm not sure I see what one thing has to do with the other. If he wants to go somewhere else, and has semi-rigid plans to do so, why would he sign from 6 years when he's 24?

He'll get the money wherever he wants to be. I know the devils are the devils. But Parise left. Nashville would have matched Minny's offer for Suter. These Minnesota hockey guys seem to really like the organization and idea of playing close to home.

He doesn't deserve it anywhere, but I guess you can argue that his jersey sales and the butts in seats that he got because of the view of the Rangers as a hardworking blue collar team had a lot to with him. That said, this is a cap world and you can't pay that kind of money for a 3rd liner, which is what Callahan is now and will only get worse as his career progresses.

Don't get me wrong, I like Cally, but he is not worth $7M or $1.7M/season less than Crosby... It's a joke! $4M-$4.5M is more than fair. If he is stuck on $6M-$7M, trade the **** out of him.

bc he has said he feels a responsibility and sense of graditude towards the rangers for trading for him, believing in him when he was deciding whether he was gonna leave college, and then really giving him a chance to flourish. Give that team a long term commitment and then at age 30 he gets to make the decision if he wants to head home or not.

It's just a gut feeling I've had about Mac and its only bc he comes across as such a down to earth family dude. To me its everything about his character that he might do it. Believe me I don't want him going anywhere.

For those blaming Callahan and his agent, shame on you. Its Glen Sather and the New York Rangers that created this situation. The failure, year after year, to produce top-tier offensive talent caused them to elevate Callahan and his heart and soul/warrior status to the face of an original 6 franchise.

Will Callahan make the type of money hes seeking? Maybe. Does he feel he deserves it? Definitely, and thats the problem.

Not ridiculous at all, and probably an understatement. Of course, most guys don't have Crosby's endorsement deals.

To give credit to Callahan and his agent, they framed the negotiations well from the start asking for so much. No way Sather would have just said 'ok' had he asked for say 6x6. Being able to negotiate down to a number/term is what you want to be able to do. I wouldn't even want Cally at 6x6 at this point, so I'm hoping he gets traded one way or another.

I mean I'm very capitalistic politically (all I'll say there) and think people should get paid what they can. So I agree with you. But I think people are allowed to vent. I also don't think it was solely the Garden lifting Cally's status to what it was. Listen to Pierre once in a while. Bottom line is fans of every team will have fan favorites that are guys like Callahan, high energy guys that play hard. That said he's not as good as he is loved.

I don't know. Maybe it's in his mind somewhere, but I doubt that he has solidly set plans for what he's going to do when he's 30. So much can change. Players come and players go, franchises rise and fall, players get hurt... the league has too much movement for a player to decide what he's doing 6 years out and stick to it. Say Minnesota is rebuilding by then and NYR is competitive. Say McD gets the C here down the line. Say some Minnesota defenseman step up big time over the next few years and they end up with insane depth. There are just too many moving parts.
