Less than 24 hours after Canada defeated Sweden to win gold in men’s hockey at the Sochi Olympics, reports emerged claiming the New York Rangers attempted to acquire Tampa Bay Lightning captain Martin St-Louis.
The New York Post’s Larry Brooks reports St-Louis was “in and out of play†with the Rangers soon after he was initially passed over by Team Canada GM Steve Yzerman, who is also GM of the Lightning. St-Louis apparently met with Lightning owner Jeff Vinik and Yzerman a few weeks apart. Brooks claims Yzerman rejected an offer of Blueshirts captain Ryan Callahan for St-Louis, citing Callahan’s UFA status and his rumored demand of a seven-year deal worth around $6.8 million per season.

Sabres GM Tim Murray on goalie Ryan Miller: "Our goal right now, I think on both sides, is to pursue a proper trade."

Is that a team official responding directly in the press to trade rumors?

I do believe it is

Who is John Vogl?

Blues should work hard on acquiring Miller.

Very very hard. That's their biggest need. Not Cally.

So the MSL thing is pretty much bs right?

I think the only think that is bs about it is the fact this was imminent. It seems like Tampa is open to to the idea of Cally, do not want him as a rental and just like the Rangers don't want him at this absurd price tag.

It really does seem like St. Louis is asking to be traded here, but Yzerman won't get fleeced.

I am willing to bet this deal is pretty ironed out and that now the ball is 100% in Callahan's court, with his ridiculous contract demands since its not that Tampa doesn't want Callahan they just don't want him as a rental.

Did Boomer say it was Cally. He confirmed MSL. Maybe it's Girardi?

if Dan Girardi goes to the Ducks, could Andersen come back in a trade?? it would help the Wolfpack big time and if Talbot walks next year as an UFA, it could also solve a problem too..

TSN Insider Trading segment discusses Callahan, but no mention of Marty St Louis, which likely says all that needs to be said on the subject

There was nothing new to report. Why would Dredger talk about it? :help:

It's not, actually.

Why is Talbot walking, exactly?

Wonder if a Dorsett/Ott based deal could be had with NYR and Sabres? Ott's a free agent. Dorsett with one more year left on his contract?

Too many journalists who think more than they should.

i think he would want to try to start as a #1 goalie. he will be an UFA at the young age of 28.. why would he stay to back up, where he can start somewhere else and make a bit on a free agent contract.

You're thinking too far ahead.

Talbot wasn't on any team's NHL radar. Rangers took him because he had raw ability, naturally big size, and because he had excellent work ethic.

He's learning more and more from Henrik. Same thing happened with Rask. He was mentored for 4-5 years with Thomas before he was able to take over the reigns. In 5 years, who knows if Henrik will be just as good as he is now, if he has gotten injured, if he's unhappy, who knows what. A lot can happen in 5 years and I think Talbot understands that he stands to learn a lot more from Henrik and his approach and focus towards the game than he has to try and go start on the Calgary Flames or whoever.

Call me delusional but until MSL comes out and says all the trade talk is bunk, I absolutely consider him in play. Why not squash the rumor?

If I were the Pens I would be on big time on Miller. They really want to go down the MAF road in the playoffs again? I know it won't happen since they are invested in MAF. But that would make them much more scary.

I think that rumor was floated earlier on in the season. That would be scary and unfortunate for the rest of the East...

I don't understand why the Pens haven't already.
