25 scouts are in Buffalo tonight. Tim Murray said he wants two young players two years into their development. St. Louis has plenty of those guys.

Call me delusional but until MSL comes out and says all the trade talk is bunk, I absolutely consider him in play. Why not squash the rumor?

If I were the Pens I would be on big time on Miller. They really want to go down the MAF road in the playoffs again? I know it won't happen since they are invested in MAF. But that would make them much more scary.

I think MSL may have been in play to an extent, but I maintain that the idea of a one for one with Callahan was probably a bad interpretation of what Boomer may have been told. Even if St. Louis forced Yzerman's hand and said "I'll only go to the Rangers" there's nothing forcing him to take action on it before the trade deadline. Getting a UFA that you have no intention of re-signing isn't fair value for MSL, even if he's 38 years old.

The Pens are pretty happy with MAF this year. They're confident that the difference maker is a much improved blue line which will take some of the load off of MAF. They've been shopping for scoring since Dupuis went down (dangling Despres, who has a bit of a Torts/Kreider thing going with Bylsma), even though Martin and Letang will miss a lot of time, they're still pretty confident that Scuderi/Orpik and Maatta/Niskanen can anchor the top-two pairings until at least Martin returns.

The real issue for the Pens is that outside of Despres, they're really thin on assets that they can, or are willing to trade. The Pens organizational depth is really on defense, and Buffalo is loaded with young D already. The Pens also have no cap space to work with unless they put Letang on LTIR.

Kesler is a great player but sooo many bruises and broken bones. You think Callahan will break down in 3-4 years? Kesler's already halfway there.

Murray is doing what our GM needs to do -- engage the public. Murray is on record stating Miller does not want to resign in Buffalo. That revelation does nothing to Miller's trade value.

Steve Ott makes more sense. He's a combination of Avery at his best and Callahan's two-way play and leadership.

They can trade Callahan and Boyle and have Moore and Ott fit right in.

Girardi for MSL makes a lot more sense. That team needs defense.

I would be surprised if the Rangers aren't looking at both buying and selling. Moving both Girardi and Callahan while bringing in someone in a separate deal if players don't come back in return ready yet.

St Louis has the assets to get both Callahan and Miller. I don't think Miller will cost too much. Not many teams in need of another starting goalie.

Oddly quiet still. I would think teams would have rather dealt players prior to playing games so as to make sure no one sustains an injury.

Cally and his agent with their "hometown discount" seem to be trying harder and harder to squash his trade value. No one in their right mind will give him 7.5-8million a year for 7 years

Where in the world did you hear 7.5-8 mil????

I agree that Girardi for MSL makes a lot more sense both in terms of value and for TB. But NOT for the Rangers. Good gracious, what a terrible waste of an asset THAT would be. You've got a 1st pair RD willing to sign for a reasonable amount - either lock him up or trade him for a solid package of picks and young players. Do NOT ship him out for yet another (38 year old) RW.

No different than any other year. As I posted earlier, I don't think you see the rumors start to fly until the weekend and the first deals start to go down Sunday night/Monday - you need to get closer to the pressure of the final deadline before buyers start making their final offers and sellers start accepting what they can get. The only way I see that changing is if someone makes a bold preemptive strike for a player they really want.

Good stuff about Pitt. And I don't disagree about the 1-for-1 swap aspect of it.

Idk just that 7X7 seems to be what he wants from the rangers and if that's the discount price I could see him wanting 7.5+

I was under the assumption that he wouldn't take a discount to play with the Rangers. I swear i read something about how homegrown players wouldn't take a discount because they witnessed Sather blow it on overhyped talent in the UFA pool.
