Yeah, who wants MSL because he's old.. should we say the same thing about Jagr who is on pace for about 70 points?

Wouldn't be a defenseman based on what Boomer tweeted. MSL makes by far the most sense given what he said (and the independent rumors others have posted here).

If MSL straight up for Cally is the deal, I'll be so pissed. This team needs to be building towards a competitive core that can challenge for the cup year after year. Loading up with another undersized winger (as good as he is), who's got maybe another year in the tank after this one, doesn't get that job done. It's another quick fix that IMO puts us just on the outside of contender status for this year, maybe next. Not good enough. (Especially when the USA team just demonstrated for us how well a team built on the wings, but weak down the center and with no offense from the blue line, does when facing a properly constructed team with talent at center and on the point.)

I don't ****ing care how old Slats is, I'VE got plenty of time to invest in seeing that team develop. MSL would be a nice add for this year and would give us a bit of a boost. But we'd still be missing the key foundational players we need, namely a true 1C (first and foremost) and a PMD, preferably on the right side. Could Cally directly fetch one of those players? Maybe not, but if that's the case, collect assets and build towards getting one, or get more picks and take more shots at drafting one. DON'T trade for another wing that's likely only got another year in the tank.

Except if you dont move Cally now its likely you return nothing for him. If there isnt a side thats offering up a Center, then you have to look at other options. msL is one of those other options that would certainly be an upgrade to this team.

Well the list of who it isn't includes virtually every "hated" non Ranger with 1st line potential and a few without it so I'm guessing it's Crosby.

I really hate getting older, but MSL is one of those players who despite his age is playing at an elite level. It's another Jagr situation. Let's put it this way, if they were going to part for anyone older, MSL for another year and the rest of this year is one of the only ones I'd be okay with.

In fact CBC just said this exactly, "MSL is on fire, isn't he?" "He always rises to big occasions..."

They just did a whole segment on how good he is.

I love MSL. He's one of my favorite players in the league. But 38 is 38. How many seasons does he have left? MSL doesn't make us an instant cup contender.

If it's Laich, that is a huge disappointment.

You should have no worries there as he's not even a 3rd liner really and is 30 years old. So its def not him.

No AO, Erat, Martin, Ott, Neil, Clarkson, Vanek, Moulson, Marchand, Lucic, Gaborik, Simmonds.

No one on the Pens, Boston, Devils, Islanders, Philly.

Is a forward that plays in the east under 30 years old not signed long term for big bucks and is a potential first line play that would be considered an upgrade.

I dunno about that. Injuries have set him back but Laich is a heart and soul guy too and can produce as well. He also plays C and W. Caps fans love him and would hate that trade, remembering their posts last playoffs they regard Cally as something of a diver but then again the average caps fan doesn't know doo-doo about hockey. I've liked Laich a lot for a while. He's hard to play against and can play on any line.

so now, we've become the tampa bay rays.

MSL doesn't make us a contender? MSL makes us the best team in the East, our forward depth would be sick! No team in the East has the depth on D to handle:

Hagelin-Stepan-Nash
Kreider-Richards-St. Louis
Pouliot-Brassard-Zuccarello
Boyle-Moore-Dorsett/Carcillo

Except if you dont move Cally now its likely you return nothing for him. If there isnt a side thats offering up a Center, then you have to look at other options. msL is one of those other options that would certainly be an upgrade to this team.
Like I said, in that case you get what you can in the form of picks, prospects and young players that can SUBSEQUENTLY be used to draft/acquire those players.

Can't be so focused on the here and now. These things require time and patience.

Do Ranger fans hate David Clarkson?

Yes, he's not on our team and has been a past thorn in the rear. That being said, all is forgiven typically when the correct jersey is applied except that contract makes him a no-go. I wouldn't touch that guy with a 10 foot pole.

No he definitely doesn't, but he does make them a better team this year and next. Again, this is not my ideal situation, but if Sather wasn't able to dig up a decent prospect and a pick for Cally, this would be an acceptable option because there aren't many better players to have on your first line in the playoffs than MS ****ing L.

If we have to get older, or be buyers at this deadline, then please let it be a guy like MSL.

Who hates MSL? That's the one issue with him being the guy Boomer is talking about, he's pretty highly respected among fans around the league.

No he didn't. People keep interpreting that tweet completely wrong. Boomer was saying he hates players like Steve Ott when they aren't a Ranger, but likes them when they are. Then he said "think Carcillo" as to say here is an example of someone I hated when he wasn't a Ranger, but now I like him. The question was specifically about STEVE OTT. The answer was specifically about him.

See above, he never said that.

Funny you use them as the example to mock me with. If the Rays had the resources to keep the players they develop when they hit their prime, they'd be the ideal team for darn near every other team in professional sports to model themselves after.

I'd love it if the NYR had the system and the longterm strategy in place that the Rays do - especially because we COULD afford to lock up our stars when it gets to that point.
